Roger Marshall’s loss in Kansas – a seat Democrats hadn’t won in nearly a century – was part of a midterm rout that handed the opposition control of Congress. The setbacks were widespread: traditionally red Texas elected a Democratic senator for the first time since 1988 and removed long-time GOP governor Greg abbott. In South Carolina, Darline Graham became the first Republican to lose a Senate seat there in almost 30 years, a surprising Democratic victory in a state Donald Trump carried handily in 2024.

Iowa, once solidly pro-Trump, saw its all-GOP House delegation reduced as Democrats captured three of four districts and won the open Senate seat left by retiring Republican Joni Ernst; the state also looks to have elected a Democratic governor for the first time in two decades. Michigan kept its Senate seat in Democratic hands, electing a candidate the author characterizes as blending Islamist and communist tendencies and as emblematic of a so-called “red-green” coalition. In Texas, newly elected Democrat James Talarico – who has made remarks about religion and gender, including that God is “nonbinary” and references to multiple genders – was cited as part of a wave of Democrats who ran with far-left records but marketed themselves as moderates to win skeptical voters. The piece suggests manny winners could have been candid about their views and still prevailed.

Under the heading “Lawyer Up,” the author argues voters didn’t merely reject Republicans; they embraced a socialist agenda the writer says conflicts with core American principles, and warns that such policies won’t cure inflation. That includes moderates and independents disgruntled over higher fuel costs and hawkish foreign policy, and conservatives who stayed home because they felt the party and president abandoned their promises.

A top priority for the new majority, the piece contends, will be expanding the Affordable Care Act into Medicare for All – a single-payer plan that dr.Joel Zinberg (cited here) estimates could add up to $47 trillion in federal spending over a decade. The author also predicts the incoming majority may pursue politically motivated purges reminiscent of 2021, citing jubilant comments from Rep. Delia Ramirez and a tweet telling certain Republicans to “clear your schedule.” Representative Robert Garcia urged targets to “LAWYER UP” on X.

The article asks whether Democrats will have time to implement sweeping items like universal government healthcare,Supreme Court reform or court-packing,eliminating the filibuster or Senate procedures, reopening borders, and also bring down gas prices – noting those goals conflict with climate policies and large clean-energy expenditures the author blames for higher energy costs. Even with a Democratic Congress, the piece notes, President trump would still wield veto power and has said he will use it.

In a final section, conservative activist Ned Ryun is quoted predicting that Democrats will overreach, draw the wrong lessons from victory, and provoke a backlash; Ryun also expects parts of the Republican establishment to blame MAGA and push away from an America First agenda. Ryun urges the GOP to refocus on issues that elected it – affordability, the economy, strict immigration enforcement – and to move away from recent foreign-policy ventures, arguing such a refocus could reverse the party’s fortunes within six to nine months.

The piece is by Matt Kittle, senior elections correspondent for The federalist, an investigative journalist with three decades of experience who formerly led Empower Wisconsin.

Tuesday was an awful day for Republicans. He and many other Democrat victors came into their respective races with a lot of far-left baggage but reinvented themselves as “moderates” for an electorate that had pushed back against radical politics.

Apparently they could have dropped the act.

‘Lawyer Up’

Voters didn’t just reject Republicans, they opened their arms wide to a socialist movement antithetical to foundational American values. Said voters are about to find out that modern-day Marxism is no fix for inflation. That goes for the dwindling moderates and independents upset over higher gas prices and neocon-style military adventurism. And for the conservatives who sat out the midterms disgusted by a Republican Party and a president that strayed from the agenda that got them elected.

High on the priority list is to take Barack Obama’s ill-named Affordable Care Act and transform it into Medicare for All, <a href="https://www.conservativenewsdaily.net/breaking-news/wisconsin-dem-senate-candidate-announces-support-for-medicare-for-all/" title="Wisconsin Dem ... Dr. Joel Zinberg, director of the Paragon Health Institute’s Public Health and American Well-Being Initiative, estimates the expensive healthcare scheme would add as much as $47 trillion in federal spending over a decade. Success will surely go to the left’s head, Ned Ryun, founder and CEO of American Majority, said this week on The Federalist Radio Hour. Just as it did in 2020 and 2022. Democrats, Ryun said, “will draw all the wrong conclusions” about their newfound power, and they won’t be able to control themselves. They will show the American people just what they’re made of, and that likely will prove catastrophic for a left-lurching Democratic Party.

Ryun believes a lot of neocons in the Republican Party establishment will do the same, screaming that MAGA doesn’t work, that the GOP needs to abandon America First principles.

“No, all that we need to do is go back to why we were elected, and that’s affordability, the economy, mass deportations,” the grassroots leader said. “Let’s forget the foreign policy larks that we’ve been on recently, get back to doing what we promised voters and I think you could actually see this thing turn around in the next six to nine months.”

Matt Kittle is a senior elections correspondent for The Federalist.
