His platform included Medicare for All, abolishing ICE, higher taxes on billionaires and corporations, stopping U.S.arms sales to Israel to protest what he called the \u201cgenocide in gaza,\u201d and overturning the Citizens United decision. Jackson sponsored or introduced bills that benefited some of those clients, including legislation that critics called a way for predatory lenders to evade Maine\u2019s interest-rate limits.<\/p>\n<p>Both men emphasized working-class roots. Platner pitched himself as a blue-collar oysterman despite attending an expensive Connecticut boarding school and receiving family help to buy a home. Jackson has long described himself as a logger and said he owned a \u201cLogging and Forestry\u201d buisness; reporting showed that the company was used to accept considerable consulting payments from a Maryland-based union.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson\u2019s campaign did face scrutiny: earlier reports raised concerns about his treatment of female colleagues and staff in the Maine legislature, though those inquiries did not involve the sexual allegations that sank Platner\u2019s candidacy. He was tapped as the Democratic nominee in July after Graham Platner, the Nazi-tattooed &#8220;oyster farmer,&#8221; withdrew from the race following a credible rape allegation.<\/p>\n<p>Like Platner, Jackson ran against a &#8220;system&#8221; that he argued was rigged against &#8220;working Mainers.&#8221; But while Platner was a political novice, Jackson spent two decades in the state legislature in Maine, including six years as president of the Maine Senate. There, Jackson and his family became well acquainted with Maine&#8217;s political &#8220;system&#8221;: In 2022, Jackson&#8217;s son Chace joined a lobbying firm founded by Jackson&#8217;s former chief of staff and represented an array of corporate clients. Platner presented himself as a blue-collar &#8220;oysterman&#8221; but <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/working-class-graham-platner-attended-elite-75k-a-year-prep-school-known-for-famous-government-alumni\/\">attended an elite Connecticut boarding school<\/a> that costs upwards of $75,000 a year and purchased his home thanks to a <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/working-class-mainer-graham-platner-got-200k-from-his-father-to-buy-his-house-records-show-he-now-claims-he-relied-on-veterans-benefits\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">$200,000 loan from his father<\/a>.
