Unfortunately, Democrat leaders care too much about power to put country over party, submitting themselves instead to the control of anarchists and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/10\/23\/muslim-group-supports-lawsuit-against-dearborn-mich-for-discriminating-against-christians-and-jews\/\">Islamists<\/a> or Islamist-adjacent politicians and public figures. Voters, however, can stand firm on Tuesday and declare, not on my watch.<\/p>\n<p>Whether it was El-Sayed\u2019s \u201churt people do hurt people\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/jewishinsider.com\/2026\/04\/abdul-el-sayed-on-temple-israel-terrorist-hurt-people-do-hurt-people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">response<\/a> to a terrorist attack on a Michigan synagogue, or his refusal to unequivocally <a href=\"https:\/\/jewishinsider.com\/2026\/04\/abdul-el-sayed-on-temple-israel-terrorist-hurt-people-do-hurt-people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">condemn<\/a> the Iranian government during his final senatorial debate against challenge Mike Rogers, El-Sayed\u2019s own words have exposed his sympathy to terrorists. And those are just a couple of the Democrat\u2019s public statements. In private, a <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/there-are-a-lot-of-people-in-dearborn-who-are-sad-democratic-senate-hopeful-abdul-el-sayed-said-he-needed-to-stay-silent-on-khamenei-killing-because-many-of-michigans-muslim-voters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leaked<\/a> audio captured El-Sayed telling staffers he did not want to comment on the killing of Ayatollah Khamenei because \u201cthere are a lot of people in Dearborn who are sad today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For all of El-Sayed\u2019s efforts to paint concerns over his lies about his past support for the Muslim Brotherhood and his family\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/abdul-el-sayeds-father-sits-on-board-of-charity-with-muslim-brotherhood-ties-that-got-caught-funneling-cash-to-saddam-was-raided-by-fbi-and-us-military\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alleged ties<\/a> to that terrorist-supporting organization as Islamophobia, his own words and associations should doom the Democrat\u2019s candidacy.<\/p>\n<p>El-Sayed\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/09\/10\/democrats-give-a-warm-welcome-to-the-hasan-piker-faction-in-their-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">asking<\/a> \u201cthe America-loathing, jihadi-sympathizing, Jew-hating Hasan Piker\u201d to travel to Michigan to campaign with him during the primary is the most well-known illustration of the Senate candidate\u2019s purposeful associations with terrorist sympathizers. Piker infamously declared \u201cAmerica deserved 9\/11,\u201d and yet El-Sayed didn\u2019t blink.<\/p>\n<p>But Piker isn\u2019t El-Sayed\u2019s only telling connection. As Chuck Ross <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/abdul-el-sayed-gets-cozy-with-hamas-loving-editor-who-wants-jews-sent-back-to-poland-candidate-urged-to-soothe-his-arab-supporters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> earlier this week, El-Sayed sat for an interview in Dearborn, Michigan with Osama Siblani, the latter of whom called Hamas and Hezbollah \u201cfreedom fighters\u201d and called for Israeli Jews to be sent \u201cback to Poland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, El-Sayed isn\u2019t the only politician excusing terrorism. In response to the horrifying October 7, terrorist attacks in Israel, Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud took to X to blamed Israel for the \u201ctragic violence.\u201d Hammoud also celebrated the renaming of a street in Dearborn after Siblani. And then, when a Christian pastor objected to having a street named in honor of a man who supported Hamas and Hezbollah, Hammoud declared he was not welcome in Dearborn.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani likewise has a sordid history of excusing terrorism. Before New Yorkers elected him mayor, Mamdani released the rap \u201csong\u201d \u201cSalaam\u201d praising the \u201cHoly Land Five.\u201d That <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/socialist-nyc-mayoral-candidate-zohran-163158822.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">group<\/a> \u201cfunnel[ed] more than $12 million to the terror group Hamas.\u201d Mamdani also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/06\/29\/zohran-mamdani-globalize-the-intifada-00432052\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">refused<\/a> \u2014 on multiple occasions \u2014 to condemn calls to \u201cglobalize the intifada,\u201d notwithstanding increasing terrorism attacks against Jews, including in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>While some Democrats have publicly withdrawn support from El-Sayed and other like-minded politicians, the party as a whole has, at best, limited their response to chastising the various statements and associations that show a sympathy to terrorism. That is not enough.<\/p>\n<p>A free society cannot survive unless terrorists, supporters of terrorists, apologists for terrorists, and those who associate with any or all of the above, are driven from polite society and politics. That Democrats refuse to do so renders them complicit with the El-Sayeds and Mamdanis of their party, and will greenlight the rise of other terrorism-adjacent politicians in America.<\/p>\n<p>Leaders in the Democrat Party may not understand this reality, but hopefully Michigan voters do and on Tuesday will choose better than New York City did last election.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>   Margot Cleveland is an investigative journalist and legal analyst and serves as The Federalist\u2019s senior legal correspondent.
