Thousands of MAGA and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jordanboydtx\/status\/2115148332238581935?a=vqWEmolTgvufpPG5kFE&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Charlie Kirk<\/a> gear-wearing attendees who <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jordanboydtx\/status\/2115135043433558054?a=yiWyBBesFUkDiFHvJT4&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lined up<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jordanboydtx\/status\/2115161982852800849?a=wmFajX4D8JqBnhm07FI&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tailgate<\/a> hours before the rally doors even opened and stayed to watch <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/joemoeller44\/status\/2115224393034908015?a=I7mRCDzehHuq7qyPumQ&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a rally livestream<\/a> on jumbotrons when the Lubbock Civic Center venue reached capacity.<\/p>\n<p>The event served as a snub to Democrat Senate nominee James Talarico, who hosted <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TeamTalaricoHQ\/status\/2115287481956364455?a=2f-R-WWAb1G3nmJYKEE&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">his own Lubbock rally<\/a> the same night less than three miles away. This fact pleased Renee Taylor, a Lubbock local who told me Talarico has no place in Texas politics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho would want anyone to run our Senate that thinks God is nonbinary and has six genders and wants our children mutilated?\u201d Taylor told me while she waited in line to enter the Trump rally. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWho would want anyone to run our Senate that thinks God is nonbinary and has six genders and wants our children mutilated?\u201d Renee of Lubbock, TX asks, referring to Talarico. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mxNzDVq1KS\">pic.twitter.com\/mxNzDVq1KS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jordan Boyd (@jordanboydtx) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jordanboydtx\/status\/2115138280794546274?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 27, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>While the people I talked to said they planned to or had already voted for Paxton, they were largely in attendance to see and express support for Trump. Taylor\u2019s goal in attending was to \u201cshow [Trump] that this town right here is really in favor of him.\u201d The Texas attorney general seemed to recognize this as the crowd\u2019s reigning attitude and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Acyn\/status\/2115244664039395566?a=sT0TcSwmTiRr-aOL-_c&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">only took the stage for a few minutes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, unbothered by the shortness of Paxton\u2019s speech, used the momentum ignited by his presence to highlight the Republican\u2019s track record. He called the Paxton the \u201cbest [attorney general] ever.\u201d The candidate\u2019s legal victories include shutting down Texas Children\u2019s Hospital\u2019s illegal child transing scheme and replacing it with a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KenPaxtonTX\/status\/2115085510657863854?a=ULmTFrDzCwmUiiDTjcU&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">free detransition clinic<\/a>, securing <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/07\/15\/exclusive-hundreds-of-ballots-cast-by-more-than-100-potential-noncitizens-in-texas-ag-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">several<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/05\/09\/texas-indicts-5-county-officials-in-voter-fraud-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">key<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/08\/22\/texas-ag-investigates-possible-illegal-voter-registrations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">election<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/10\/14\/texas-poll-workers-must-now-require-naturalization-docs-from-people-trying-to-vote-with-noncitizen-ids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">integrity<\/a> wins for the state, and taking on the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/08\/21\/paxton-to-abortion-pill-black-market-texas-will-not-tolerate-illegal-trafficking-of-fatal-drugs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">illegal abortion pill black market<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/12\/16\/republicans-serious-about-protecting-life-should-follow-texas-in-prosecuting-abortion-pill-outlaws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">outlaws<\/a> who run it.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also let loose on \u201cTala-freak-o.\u201d He poked fun at the Democrat\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/townhallcom\/status\/2034020312518373412?a=YMe2s859P8IjHVO8cIE&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cnon-meat campaign\u201d<\/a> commitment with a joke about <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/theblaze\/status\/2115227100777005509?a=cP19UfO7J1TcsORJvvE&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">barbecue-induced indigestion<\/a> being the cause for Talarico\u2019s recent absence. The president also warned that a vote for Talarico means a vote for a candidate who <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NRSC\/status\/2115230749401997575?a=JmQY_jck3-GYmMVe3gA&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">supports gun grabs<\/a> and regulating oil and gas companies out of business. <\/p>\n<h2>The Elephants In The Room <\/h2>\n<p>When Trump wasn\u2019t talking about the Texas Senate race specifically, he was tooting his own horn on the administration\u2019s victories in the farming and oil and gas industries and calling out other radical Democrats like <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jordanboydtx\/status\/2115231201225244841?a=VUThz9Be1FUdVOfTdTw&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rep. Ilhan Omar<\/a> (or, according to U.S. government documents, Ilhan Nur Said Elmi) and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jordanboydtx\/status\/2115230188489617446?a=37G0CnxCwRJijDlZjZc&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The president\u2019s comments about <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RealAmVoice\/status\/2115241581909270822?a=M8br0g79IX7Qmmv_xiM&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">falling gas prices<\/a> and the Iran War were a direct appeal to voters whose biggest concerns heading into the midterms are affordability and another Middle East conflict.<\/p>\n<p>Madeline and Avery, two high school students who attended the rally with Turning Point USA\u2019s Club America, told me ahead of Trump\u2019s speech that they were worried about rising costs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone\u2019s getting cars now, and gas is really pricey. Like getting a job and all your money going straight to gas,\u201d Madeline said.<\/p>\n<p>Avery, who drives a truck, said she specifically wanted to hear Trump discuss \u201clowering diesel prices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They weren\u2019t the only ones. Sawyer, a high school senior who volunteered at the rally, agreed that affordability is front of mind for him and his peers. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know the younger generation is struggling a lot with economics, especially in housing and things like that. Like I gotta, I gotta pinch,\u201d Goldsmith said.<\/p>\n<p>Goldsmith also expressed concerns about the Iran War.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a young American who is eligible for the draft, I would say I\u2019m kind of against it. Like I don\u2019t really want to die. War kind of increases that chance of me dying,\u201d Goldsmith said.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Goldsmith\u2019s father Paul Goldsmith, however, believes that \u201cIran was a real threat and what Trump did was necessary.\u201d He said he\u2019s happy with most everything Trump has done since taking office again, but wished the president would \u201cget more of the illegals out.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Too Close\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>The president\u2019s presence in the 806 may have yielded a crowd <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RealAmVoice\/status\/2115245469181845879?a=FnWVdRrPRJ0Zxv_7NTs&#038;s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cpacked to the rafters,\u201d<\/a> but it\u2019s not exactly the gift or good omen Trump rally-goers may have thought it was.  <\/p>\n<p>Lubbock is a Republican stronghold \u2014 especially in <a href=\"https:\/\/assets01.aws.connect.clarityelections.com\/Assets\/Connect\/RootPublish\/lubbock-tx.connect.clarityelections.com\/HistoricalElectionResults\/2016\/November8\/LubbockCountyCumulativeReport.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">elections<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/results.enr.clarityelections.com\/TX\/Lubbock\/122846\/web.345435\/#\/summary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">involving<\/a> Trump. Even during the Lone Star State\u2019s last heated U.S. Senate race in 2018, incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz won the West Texas county with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/election-results\/2018\/texas\/senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">64.2 percent<\/a> of Lubbockites\u2019 votes. Trump\u2019s visit to such a red region suggests GOP is worried that Talarico might have a chance at getting elected.
