Jon Ossoff ahead of his Republican rival, Rep. Mike Collins, by 10 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/article\/2026\/10\/23\/what-fake-wedgewood-polls-scandal-reveals-about-election-polling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Time<\/a> noted that Newsweek, MS NOW, and Politico also embraced the fake polling. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/10\/21\/us\/midterm-election-fake-polling-wedgewood.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a> admitted to using 15 of Wedgewood\u2019s polls.<\/p>\n<p>The outlet noted that the political polling site FiftyPlusOne exposed the fakery, and that when confronted, Wedgewood said the polling was an \u201cexperimental project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow easy is it for an entirely fabricated polling firm to gain traction, be taken seriously, and expose how little scrutinization exists in media and in public commentary?\u201d the firm wrote in a since-deleted post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe short answer: Far too easy,\u201d it wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The explanation came close to one offered by Median Strategies, which was outed after its Wisconsin Democratic primary polling was revealed to be laughably incorrect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMedian Strategies was created as a short-term social experiment to examine how purported polling information could enter and spread through the political information ecosystem without independent verification,\u201d the company said in an  to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2026-08-17\/poll-showing-bass-leading-raman-by-double-digits-was-bogus-company-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los Angeles Times.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s getting easier to conduct low-quality polls \u2014 or fake them altogether,\u201d FiftyPlusOne wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times noted that Mallory McMorrow, a member of the Michigan Senate who was competing in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, said a Wedgewood poll that showed her in single digits was linked to an end of support for her campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a one-two punch,\u201d she said, adding that it \u201ckilled us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There also appears to be one fewer polling group after they were asked to name who was working for them, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2026\/10\/22\/pollwatcher-another-fraudulent-pollster-is-out-business-third-group-just-disappeared\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SoCal Strategies has since taken down its website and X account.<\/p>\n<p>Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr said the fake polling is not being taken lightly.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">During this election season, there has been a significant surge in entirely Fake Polls and Suppression Polls designed to do nothing more than interfere with the regular functioning of the electoral process and alter the normal patterns of voter turnout and enthusiasm.<\/p>\n<p>Many journalists and broadcasters have been amplifying or airing these Polls without regard to basic journalistic ethics and without informing the public that those Polls lack a scientific, accurate, or even real basis.<\/p>\n<p>The FCC takes these issues seriously. Broadcasters are prohibited by the terms of their federal licenses from engaging in News Distortion or promoting Broadcast Hoaxes. It is important that broadcasters comply with their public interest obligations. After all, the country benefits greatly when Americans can trust and rely on the media to report the news fairly and accurately.<\/p>\n<p>Broadcasters are advised to avoid engaging in News Distortions or running Broadcast Hoaxes by airing Polls that would violate their regulatory obligations.
