But this is Canada we\u2019re talking about, and they\u2019re anything but reasonable.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the elderly killer and woman-abuser is attending one of the country\u2019s most woke universities and \u2014 you\u2019ll never believe this \u2014 the same kind of wokeistas who want to abolish prisons don\u2019t want to be in the same place as a high-risk offender.<\/p>\n<p>Ewert, now in his 60s, sexually assaulted and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/infant-dead-strangled-illegal-biden-allowed-stay-authorities\/\">strangled a woman to death<\/a> back in 1984 in British Columbia. Six weeks after that murder, he beat and choked a 15-year-old, paralyzing her for life.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/montreal\/mcgill-university-convict-fallout-9.7386767\">Canadian Broadcasting Corporation<\/a> noted that he was convicted of second-degree murder and attempted murder for the attacks. He was granted day parole in 2025 even though his risk of reoffending was judged to be moderate to high.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s currently in a halfway house \u2014 and since August has been attending law school and pursuing a master\u2019s in social work at McGill University in Montreal, one of the most prestigious, and liberal, institutions in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>In October, after some students felt betrayed that the school did not disclose his violent history and said they felt unsafe in his presence, the university took \u201cmeasured, decisive action\u201d and banned Ewert from campus.<\/p>\n<p>Now, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/lgbt-mob-violently-assaults-christian-students-peacefully-protesting-woke-indoctrination-children-report\/\">woke students<\/a> are petitioning the school to return him to campus. Why? Because they claim the school is perpetuating racism by banning the indigenous Ewert despite the fact he\u2019s a convicted murderer, sexual abuser, and woman-beater.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are asking that Jeff be given the chance to do what the rest of us are doing, which is to attend class and learn,\u201d the petition read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA ban from the premises, with no conversation beforehand and no finding of misconduct, takes that chance away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/news\/some-mcgill-law-students-petition-university-to-allow-convicted-murderer-back-on-campus\/\">Montreal Gazette<\/a>, the McGill Law Students\u2019 Association ed the university complaining that the decision undermines Ewert\u2019s rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are shocked by the reactive manner in which McGill University has responded to this issue,\u201d the  read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs law students, we are taught to recognize the injustices perpetuated by the criminal justice system and to understand the importance of rehabilitation and offenders\u2019 rights,\u201d the  continued. \u201cIt is therefore especially disappointing when our university, presented with an opportunity to guide us through critical learning, fails.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And,\u00a0<em>quelle surprise<\/em>, the people who want Ewert back on campus are using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/media-learns-shooter-trans-immediately-starts-using-biological-pronouns-hide-trans-blaming-men-instead\/\">same hoary playbook<\/a> to get him back, arguing that his time behind bars was \u201cinextricable from the colonial institutions in which he was born.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJeff\u2019s situation is where our collective commitments to reconciliation and rehabilitation are tested,\u201d the petition read, noting the parole board decision in June which said Ewert was \u201craised in an environment marked by abuse, neglect, and racism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat should be taken into consideration in understanding why we got the act of murder\u2026 that he committed,\u201d Raymond Johnson-Brown, one of the students petitioning for Ewert\u2019s return to campus, said.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson-Brown said that while women might feel uncomfortable sitting near a sexual abuser and murderer, \u201cdiscomfort is not the same as a lack of safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Right, even though the Montreal Gazette reported that \u201cthe Parole Board of Canada acknowledged Ewert has breached his release conditions multiple times since he was first granted day parole in early 2025, including those that pertain to his contacts with women.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Discomfort and legitimate reason to fear for your safety are not the same as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-views-sunny-hostin-announces-lots-american-flags-make-feel-unsafe-white-supremacy\/\">a lack of safety<\/a>, apparently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI personally don\u2019t see somebody who has committed a crime, served [decades in prison] and is now out on day parole as impacting me or my well-being,\u201d Johnson-Brown said.<\/p>\n<p>Well, of course not: Johnson-Brown, who\u2019s also pursuing a master\u2019s in social work, isn\u2019t a woman.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m stunned this guy hasn\u2019t gotten pilloried by the women\u2019s studies harridan crew, but they\u2019re apparently on his side this time. Turns out that the \u201ccollective commitment\u201d to let a convicted murderer roam a college campus goes a long way.<\/p>\n<p>Annica Dickens, a woman who co-authored the petition, echoed the line that \u201cpublic discomfort should not, on its own, be treated as proof that someone poses a threat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis past is serious, and I don\u2019t want to minimize the harm experienced by his victims or their families,\u201d Dickens said. \u201cBut we also have to consider who he is today, his behavior since then, and the safeguards that are in place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for McGill, you won\u2019t be surprised that the university is reviewing the matter and says that \u201ca past conviction does not on its own bar anyone from studying here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Provost Angela Campbell said that there would be \u201ca fair process that balances the rights and interests of everyone involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, this being Canada, that won\u2019t happen. If there were a fair process that protected the rights of everyone involved, this guy would be behind bars for the rest of his life without a chance of seeing daylight, not studying at one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/members-justin-trudeaus-party-attempt-force-office-dramatic-mutiny\/\">Canada\u2019s most prestigious colleges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These fools have been eaten through with animus to such an extent that nothing\u2019s left \u2014 not even the self-preservation instinct. Students like these have morphed into skinsuits for wokeism, neo-Marxism, and other sick ideologies.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re mere vessels, intellectually and emotionally possessed by a great evil.
