The former congressman noted that he had previously worked in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fbi-carries-major-voter-fraud-bust-california-gavin-newsom-ignores-ultimatum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FBI<\/a> fighting crime. He then cited the federal and state cooperation seen in cities like Memphis to bring the crime rate down under the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>Rogers then contrasted his view with El-Sayed, who called for defunding the police in 2020 and has expressed positive views about the Muslim Brotherhood.<\/p>\n<p>In a Detroit Public Radio <a href=\"https:\/\/goodpods.com\/podcasts\/michmash-politics-377964\/abdul-el-sayed-discusses-racism-as-public-health-crisis-53995586\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> that year, he said, \u201cI believe we need to defund the police insofar as defunding the police is disinvesting in the means of incarcerating someone or killing them on the streets, and investing more in the means of educating and empowering, engaging communities with the means of being able to take on systemic poverty,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/bridgemi.com\/michigan-government\/fact-check-abdul-el-sayeds-record-on-defund-the-police-republican-meddling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bridge Michigan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/10\/politics\/kfile-abdul-el-sayed-deleted-tweets-defund-the-police?code=CNNPVLG022026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> reported in November 2025 that El-Sayed deleted social media posts calling for defunding the police.<\/p>\n<p>The candidate tried to explain to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/11\/15\/abdul-el-sayed-distances-himself-from-past-defund-the-police-rhetoric\/87276996007\/?gnt-cfr=1&#038;gca-cat=p&#038;gca-uir=true&#038;gca-epti=z11xx59p11xx50c11xx50e1117xxv11xx59d--42--b--42--&#038;gca-ft=249&#038;gca-ds=sophi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Detroit News<\/a> that same month, \u201cI actually never, never called for defunding. My goal in that conversation was to help everybody to understand what we were talking about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Rogers asked during the debate, \u201cWhy would you take all of that time to delete all of the material: X, videos, comments, podcasts? Why? Because he was passionate about defunding the police. As a matter of fact, he asked the new Muslim Brotherhood\u2019s head, [Mohamad] Morsi, in Egypt to defund the police there, too. I mean, it\u2019s unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Abdul El-Sayed on Muslim Brotherhood accusations: \u201cIt\u2019s actually really quite beneath you, Mike. To call into question my loyalty to the Constitution\u2026I\u2019m talking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mike Rogers: \u201cOwn up to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>El-Sayed: \u201cTo bring into question my commitment to the Constitution is really beneath you. I am proud of America. I\u2019m proud to be an American. I\u2019m proud of our Constitution that guarantees all of us the right to pray as we choose to pray and the question that you would ask that I think is actually really quite shameful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rogers: \u201cI wore the uniform of the United States proudly\u2026so you can pray any way you want. I know you want to make this about you being a victim. This is about an ideology that\u2019s banned in five Muslim countries\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Credit: WXYZ\/SCRIPPS<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CSPAN (@cspan) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/cspan\/status\/2113088062435565630?\">October 22, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In 2012, El-Sayed signed a letter by 46 Egyptian leaders in the U.S. in support of then Egyptian President Mohamad Morsi, a senior leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, to \u201cpurge the media and police.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Morsi granted himself broad powers shortly after taking power, <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/abdul-el-sayed-called-on-egypts-muslim-brotherhood-to-purge-the-media-and-police-shortly-before-islamic-government-arrested-reporters-for-insulting-islam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Free Beacon<\/a> noted. He was ultimately deposed by the Egyptian military in 2013, having served just over one year as president.<\/p>\n<p>In a 2011 piece for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/why-the-us-should-support_b_816037\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Huffington Post<\/a>, El-Sayed wrote that Americans have nothing to fear from the Muslim Brotherhood, which has been designated a terrorist organization by the <a href=\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/news\/press-releases\/sb0357\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. State Department<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if the Muslim Brotherhood were to take power [in Egypt], there are several reasons why the ensuing state would look nothing like Iran,\u201d El-Sayed insisted, adding that the Muslim Brotherhood definitely would not resemble Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>El-Sayed was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/caught-el-sayed-says-family-no-ties-muslim-brotherhood-sisters-devastating-tweets-surface\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accused of lying<\/a> earlier this month during an interview with NBC \u201cMeet the Press\u201d host Kristen Welker when he claimed his family had no ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.<\/p>\n<p>However, his half-sister Eman Abdelhadi, a University of Chicago assistant professor, proudly boasted in 2012, days after Morsi took office, \u201cMy family has long been MB.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir mother, Fatten Elkomy, was active in the Brotherhood in college in Egypt in the 1970s, Abdelhadi said,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/abdul-el-sayed-called-himself-an-immigrant-from-north-africa-during-2017-michigan-dem-convention-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Free Beacon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>El-Sayed said during Wednesday\u2019s debate that Rogers \u201ckeeps raising this question about this organization that I\u2019ve never been a part of. Because of my mom, who\u2019s a nurse in Missouri. It\u2019s really quite beneath you, Mike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo bring into question my commitment to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/founders-say-muslims-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Constitution<\/a> is really beneath you,\u201d he continued. \u201cI am proud of America. I\u2019m proud to be an American. I\u2019m proud of our Constitution, that guarantees all of us the right to pray as we choose to pray and the question that you would ask, I think, is actually really quite shameful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rogers responded, \u201cI wore the uniform of the United States proudly \u2026 so you could pray any way you want.
