They lie all the time, and they get called out for it all the time, too. This is nothing new.<\/p>\n<p>When it\u2019s their mother doing the calling out, however, that\u2019s something worth paying attention to.<\/p>\n<p>And boy, is Amy Acton paying attention now.<\/p>\n<p>Acton is the Democratic gubernatorial nominee in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/will-never-quit-jon-gruden-goes-wild-stage-republicans-fires-crowd-gop-candidate-jon-husted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio<\/a>, and is hoping to flip control of the governor\u2019s mansion with a win over Republican nominee and 2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.<\/p>\n<p>In her way is herself, including allegations that she\u2019s a bit, ahem, disordered in her private life.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign has already been a nasty one, with Ramaswamy\u2019s supporters accusing Acton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/10\/05\/us\/elections\/ohio-governor-election.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">of substance abuse<\/a> and Acton calling the ads against her \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/shorts\/9Nbj14xUiOE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">garbage<\/a>\u201d and making claims about Ramaswamy\u2019s use of AI in ads.<\/p>\n<p>Well, nobody\u2019s going to accuse the campaign of getting any nicer after Monday, but now Acton\u2019s whole backstory is being called into question by her mother, who says that her daughter is effectively a pathological liar who invented her life experience.<\/p>\n<p>But first, here\u2019s a refresher on the backstory the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/vivek-ramaswamy-set-launch-run-office-home-state-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">former state health director<\/a> is peddling about living in a tent with her mother:<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title='Amy Acton, \"Tent\"' width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/R-lFnTTZY9c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Remember, this has been her backstory for a while, too, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkyc.com\/article\/news\/health\/coronavirus\/who-is-ohio-public-health-director-dr-amy-acton\/95-930c562c-30ea-4cc9-96d6-0cf3d384247f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WKYC-TV<\/a> reporting that in 2019, \u201cActon spoke of years of abuse, neglect, and even a period of homelessness while living with her mother after her parents divorced.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, Donna Arthur, Acton\u2019s mother, gets her say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI worked at Children and Family Service Association, building one of the first two sexual abuse programs in America,\u201d Arthur said in the ad, before segueing into Acton\u2019s apparent mistruths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love my daughter, but when I saw her lying about her opponent \u2014 and it\u2019s not easy for a mother to say this \u2014 but Amy has a serious problem,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is a liar. She lies about her past. She says she grew up living in a tent. None of that is true. She\u2019s lied her entire life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is disqualifying, Arthur said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy daughter needs help, and she can\u2019t help you if she needs help herself,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople can change, but first they have to tell the truth, and my daughter still isn\u2019t doing that. Don\u2019t vote for people who lie. Don\u2019t let her become your governor. If you think she\u2019ll make your life better, you\u2019re fooling yourself. However, it\u2019s difficult to call Ramaswamy a \u201ccon man\u201d and a \u201cswindler\u201d \u2014 as Team Acton has \u2014 if your candidate herself is misrepresenting pretty much every important data point in her life.<\/p>\n<p>If that\u2019s nasty, well, welcome to politics.
