In fact, Democrats tend to use the fact that it was open as a talking point against President Donald Trump, though Jackson evidently never got the memo:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Before Trump\u2019s war of choice with Iran, the Strait of Hormuz was open. Now it\u2019s closed, your gas prices are climbing, and the president still cannot explain how any of this makes America safer.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senator Chris Coons (@ChrisCoons) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ChrisCoons\/status\/2044534913622282245?\">April 15, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Undeterred by being shamed and humiliated on the national and international stage, Jackson continued with his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-dem-nominee-troy-jackson-tells-sen-susan-collins-shut-heckler-causes-debate-chaos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tour of ignorance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, Iran had the ability to do what they did before we started bombing them, and things were fine,\u201d he alleged. \u201cI\u2019m sure that if we move out of Iran, things will stabilize and prices will probably go down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bash was left in utter disbelief.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou think if the United States just leaves, Iran will say, OK, fine, we\u2019re going to pull out of the Strait of Hormuz?\u201d she asked with the patience of a schoolteacher speaking to an exceptionally slow child.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, it\u2019s a lot better than what we\u2019re doing right now,\u201d Jackson replied. \u201cAnd I definitely think that we need to make sure that we protect our troops getting out of there in a manner that they\u2019re safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut yeah, I do. I think we need to get out of that war, and hopefully prices will stabilize,\u201d he continued. \u201cI mean, they rose because we got into it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This time Bash initially cut him some slack by admitting \u201cthe situation is challenging\u201d before digging the knife <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tim-walz-digs-even-deeper-tries-explain-china-story-unraveled-debate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">even deeper<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut now we are where we are, and there are blockades, and other ways that the U.S. being there is at least letting some ships through,\u201d she noted. \u201cAnd if the U.S. leaves, why would Iran just pull up stakes and say, OK, fine, we\u2019ll leave it open?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was a great question \u2014 one for which Jackson had nothing but tired ol\u2019 Democratic talking points to throw at.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sure we can negotiate something that has us leave the Strait of Hormuz without losing any more ships, going back to a situation where we used to be,\u201d he said. \u201cI mean, President Obama negotiated a deal where they weren\u2019t enriching uranium. We didn\u2019t have these issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump tore it up, and now we\u2019re in the mess that we\u2019re in, because he wanted to play war games,\u201d he continued, concluding his remarks. \u201cI\u2019m sure there\u2019s a way that we can negotiate with them to get back some semblance of what it was before this and get oil prices stabilized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Had the discussion continued after this final remark, Bash might have made it a point to note that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/even-top-senate-democrat-bob-menendez-is-not-thrilled-with-bidens-9-11-iran-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">negotiating with terrorists<\/a> never works. However, as dumb and ignorant as Jackson appears to be, I\u2019m sure the point would have flown right over his head.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Jackson\u2019s thinking on Iran is so flawed that The Wall Street Journal\u2019s editorial board penned a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/opinion\/democrats-iran-strait-of-hormuz-oil-josh-turek-troy-jackson-f3c47106\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whole column<\/a> debunking it:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Take Hormuz\u2014please! With apologies to Henny Youngman, that appears to be an emerging Democratic message on Iran.<br \/> https:\/\/t.co\/wChFYRtw8m<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Wall Street Journal Opinion (@WSJopinion) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/WSJopinion\/status\/2110903589950435544?\">October 16, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In the column, the board slammed Jackson\u2019s call for a quick end to the war, arguing that it\u2019d mean allowing Iran to charge \u201cterror tolls\u201d on vital international oil shipping lanes.
