Wang, a microbiology graduate student at the university of Wyoming, faces charges of assault and battery. The victim, identified as K.T., a Vietnamese researcher working on cancer and genetic disease treatments, was hospitalized with symptoms of poisoning caused by acrylamide, a carcinogenic chemical Wang purchased online.Evidence suggests Wang grew envious of K.T.\u2019s success, and prior surveillance recorded her accessing his workspace and tampering with his belongings. At the time of her arrest Wang was in possession of laptops, electronic storage devices and unknown documents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">The victim, known by his initials \u201cK.T.\u201d was a Vietnamese national and an exceptional student who conducted federally-funded, patent-pending research regarding \u201cnew technology for cancer, neurological and genetic disease treatment,\u201d alleges an affidavit obtained by the AP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">Wang faces a felony assault and battery charge. Although K.T. survived, he is still experiencing symptoms of the poisoning and it is unclear whether he will ever fully recover, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">\u201cA University of Wyoming [UW] graduate student has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with allegations that she used a substance to harm a colleague in a UW laboratory. The charge was filed in Albany County Circuit Court last week, following a UW Police Department [UWPD] investigation,\u201d the University of Wyoming said in a statement sent to the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">\u201cThe UWPD\u2019s findings were forwarded to the Albany County Attorney\u2019s Office, which brought the charge. Separately, the university is following all normal processes in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ilhan-omars-daughter-suspended-from-barnard-college-for-anti-israel-protests\/\" title=\"Ilhan Omar&#039;s daughter suspended from Barnard College due to involvement in anti-Israel protests\">student conduct proceeding<\/a>. The university takes matters involving the health and safety of the campus community seriously and remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors,\u201d the statement added. \u201cThe university continues to assess information related to this matter and will take appropriate action as warranted to protect the campus community. The university is working with authorities and will respond to any additional information that may arise. These are only allegations, and individuals are <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >presumed innocent pending trial<\/a> or resulting conviction in any matter.\u201d<b> <\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">The Albany County Prosecutor\u2019s Office, and the Laramie Police Department did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s been disheartening, to say the least, to see that one of your student\u2019s life is in jeopardy and another student may be responsible for that\u2026that was one of the worst shocks in my professional career,\u201d Professor Mark Gomelsky, the supervisor of both students told the AP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">Wang \u2014 who failed her first attempt at defending her dissertation \u2014 grew envious of K.T.\u2019s success, according to the AP. Suspicious that he was being targeted, K.T. and the campus police set up cameras in the d office space used by microbiology researchers. A Sept. 26 recording indicated Wang going through K.T.\u2019s desk. She was recorded on Oct. 1 \u201ctaking photos and manipulating notebooks\u201d on the alleged victim\u2019s desk, as well as rinsing out his mug with a liquid from her own mug.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">After attending a conference in August, K.T. began experiencing extreme tiredness, inability to sleep and other unexplained symptoms, the outlet reported. His coffee maker also emitted a strange taste that would go away upon washing it. A suspicious professor tested the water coming out of the coffee maker and identified the toxic substance acrylamide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\"><a class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/process-contaminants-food\/acrylamide\">Acrylamide<\/a> is a substance that forms through the chemical reaction between sugars and the amino acid, asparagine. It is white, odorless, and water soluble. It is a known carcinogen.
