Ilhan Omar?<\/p>\n<p>The reliably liberal network has been a reliable ally for leftist Democrats like the Minnesota lawmaker and their endless wars with President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>But an interview conducted by anchor Jake Tapper on Wednesday might be signaling a shift in position \u2014 or at least perspective.<\/p>\n<p>In a segment of \u201cThe Lead with Jake Tapper,\u201d the journalist appeared to concede the possibility that Omar had lied about her date of birth in order to obtain naturalization through her father \u2014 who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/expert-ilhan-omars-dad-never-refugee-actually-commander-military-killed-200k-people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">himself might have lied<\/a> to get it.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udea8 NOW: ILHAN OMAR HAS ALL BUT LOST CNN. CNN can\u2019t even spin this anymore. https:\/\/t.co\/wUVfZuA8oq<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Benny Johnson (@bennyjohnson) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/bennyjohnson\/status\/2110774566586880167?\">October 15, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Honig called it a \u201ctricky dilemma,\u201d but conceded that \u201cindeed, she might have fared better under the Biden administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But he also stressed one fact that blows holes in the claims from Omar and her media allies that the whole investigation is political lawfare \u2014 like the kind that dogged Trump in the years between his two White House terms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut look, it\u2019s an important point of all this, there was some investigation\u2026 that was started under the Biden administration, reopened under the Trump administration,\u201d Honig said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I think that\u2019s going to undermine any argument she may have down the line that this is politically selective and vindictive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those are the kinds of opinions that CNN viewers tend to be shielded from, so Honig quickly sugarcoated it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen again, Donald Trump has given her plenty of ammo to argue that she has been singled out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That might make libs feel better, but it\u2019s not exactly a legally impenetrable defense \u2014 in fact, if that\u2019s the best Omar has to offer, she might as well be checking for Mogadishu flights now \u2014 one-way.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important to note that Tapper was almost certainly not deliberately trying to undermine Omar\u2019s increasingly implausible claims of persecuted innocence. And Honig\u2019s quick backpedal showed he knew this was dangerous ground for a lefty booster like CNN.<\/p>\n<p>But by admitting the truth, even in a backhanded fashion, the segment underscored two realities \u2014 one political and one legal \u2014 that are likely to make life difficult for Omar and her apologists for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p>The political reality is that even her own side is acknowledging the likelihood that she\u2019s been less than honest about her past \u2014 and in a way that could mean serious peril.<\/p>\n<p>When even your biggest defenders are thinking you\u2019re probably guilty, you\u2019re probably guilty.<\/p>\n<p>(And again, Tapper\u2019s uncritically blithe assumption that the Biden administration would turn a blind eye to a potential Omar crime is telling.
