OpenAI discovered the device, which was concealed inside toilet paper, and identified that it was installed by an employee, leading to his termination. The device was reportedly used to intercept confidential discussions involving proprietary research, strategic plans, and sensitive company details. Alfozan, who was in the process of naturalizing as a U.S. citizen with a green card obtained in 2020, had been researching the building and the means to covertly plant such devices. CCTV footage showed him near the conference room on multiple occasions. The FBI, working with the U.S.Attorney’s office, seized additional equipment from him, and investigations revealed his attempts to gather sensitive information related to OpenAI’s super intelligence technology.
