The Martha Laird chapter of DAR was disbanded after a majority vote by the National Board of Management, citing violations of DAR bylaws related to discrediting the organization. The chapter was accused of using its resources to promote an advocacy organization advocating for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/researcher-fact-checks-john-olivers-misinformation-on-new-trans-rights-episode\/\" title=\"Researcher Fact-Checks John Oliver\u2019s Misinformation On New \u2018Trans Rights\u2019 Episode\">gender-related issues<\/a>. Historically, the chapter was named after Martha Laird, a woman with a family history of fighting for American independence.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, the DAR has begun allowing men with altered birth certificates to join, a move that has prompted thousands of members to leave due to disagreements over maintaining a women-only space. In response, some chapters, including Martha Laird, proposed restricting membership to biological women, defined strictly as individuals born female with original birth certificates. Though, this proposal was rejected by the national leadership, and a subsequent vote to limit membership to women was defeated in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>As of late 2026, many chapters are seeking meetings to discuss excluding men, but the national leadership is moving to disband dissenting chapters, including Martha Laird, unless members find new chapters. Critics argue that the organization&#8217;s inability to define what constitutes a woman threatens its core mission and the preservation of American history. The disbandment and internal conflicts highlight deep divisions over gender inclusion policies within the DAR.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Contrary to its name, the Daughters of the American Revolution isn\u2019t a women-only organization. The latest casualties of the DAR\u2019s commitment to accommodating radical transgender ideology are the ladies of the DAR\u2019s Martha Laird chapter, who were informed in an Oct. 10 letter that they were officially axed from the organization after a two-thirds majority vote by the National Board of Management.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>DAR Organizing Secretary General Marguerite Hogan Fritsch attributed the decision to a violation of DAR bylaw Article XIX, Section 4, which claims authority to disband \u201cany chapter guilty of violation of the rules of the National Society, or of action discrediting the organization.\u201d Yet, Fritsch did not specify exactly which actions constituted a violation worth forcibly shuttering the chapter over.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/daughters-american-revolution-axes-chapter-challenged-transgender-membership\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox News Digital<\/a> later reported that the DAR\u2019s National Board of Management found the Mount Pleasant, Texas-based \u201cchapter officers had used the chapter\u2019s name, leadership positions, communications, and governance processes to further the goals of a separate advocacy organization.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The DAR has <a href=\"https:\/\/texasdar.org\/chapters\/MarthaLaird\/patriots.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">since scrubbed its webpage<\/a> documenting the history of the 84 year-old Martha Laird chapter. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findagrave.com\/memorial\/132375447\/martha-harris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cemetery records<\/a>, however, indicate that the East Texas branch of the DAR named itself after Laird, \u201cthe great-great-grandmother of the Organizing Regent, Zenobia Slaughter Lide (Mrs. Dean Lide).\u201d Laird and her husband, both Irish immigrants, not only \u201cgave civil service in the American Revolution,\u201d but also had seven sons and three son-in-laws who fought for the colonies\u2019 independence.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who has followed the DAR\u2019s recent history of letting men infiltrate its ranks knows the chapter at the forefront of the fight to keep one of the largest patriotic women\u2019s nonprofits <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dar.org\/discover\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the world<\/a> female is the Martha Laird chapter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/18\/dar-patriots-fight-to-defend-historic-womens-society-from-men-pretending-to-be-ladies\/\">Since 2023<\/a>, the DAR has officially, sometimes <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/06\/men-are-quietly-erasing-americas-true-daughters-of-the-revolution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">without the knowledge of its members<\/a>, welcomed men with altered birth certificates to its chapters across the U.S. National DAR leadership\u2019s commitment to accommodating delusional men at the expense of its core mission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2026\/jun\/24\/transgender-showdown-looms-daughters-american-revolutions-annual\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prompted an exodus of thousands of members<\/a> from several of its chapters over the last several years.<\/p>\n<p>The Martha Laird chapter, joined by nearly a dozen endorsing chapters, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/10\/daughters-of-the-american-revolution-doubles-down-on-letting-men-infiltrate-its-ranks-against-members-wishes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">submitted a proposal<\/a> to limit membership in their society to women, defined as \u201ca biological female at conception, having only naturally occurring X chromosomes, exclusive of Y chromosomes, and certified as female or girl on the original birth certificate\u201d in January 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the proposal was to receive a national vote at the organization\u2019s 2025 summer Continental Congress, especially after the initiating chapters received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/826384115\/Center-for-American-Liberty-DAR-Letter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmation<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/826384116\/Center-for-American-Liberty-DAR-Memorandum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Center for American Liberty<\/a> that the DAR \u201cwould have a strong First Amendment defense\u201d if it was sued for barring males from joining. The Martha Laird members hoped that the proposal would satisfy the DAR\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dar-doubles-down-on-allowing-men-against-members-wishes\/\" title=\"... Doubles Down On ... Against Members\u2019 Wishes\">internal bylaw procedure<\/a> and soothe the national chapter\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/texas-daughters-american-revolution-chapter-challenges-premise-must-admit-transgender-members\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fears<\/a> about losing its nonprofit status over allegations of discrimination. <\/p>\n<p>Instead, the DAR refused to forward the proposal to the Continental Congress and declared through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/826332946\/DAR-Rejects-DNA-Amendment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> from the recording secretary general that the suggested amendment was \u201cnot \u2026 suitable subject matter for inclusion in the bylaws and not to be in the best interests of the National Society.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In another blow to the quest to keep men out of the DAR, a resolution to limit membership to women, defined as \u201cborn female,\u201d was defeated on June 26, 2026 in a 1,481 to 984 vote. The vote came after a confusing string of events and a bypass of the \u201crequirement that 100% of the membership must be notified about this resolution\u201d and was followed by a note from Ginnie Storage, president general of the DAR, reminding members that \u201cthe decision of the voting members reflects the considered judgment of the membership assembled at the Continental Congress, and it deserves our respect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo any member who has felt discouraged or unwelcome: you are, and remain, a valued Daughter,\u201d Storage, a member of the DAR\u2019s trans activism Facebook group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/744599598584264\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daughters for Inclusivity<\/a>, added.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>As of August 2026, 129 DAR chapters across 35 states <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/darestoration\/status\/2087412822904856955?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">requested a special meeting<\/a> \u201cfor the sole purpose of discussing and voting on the issue of allowing men with amended birth certificates into the DAR.\u201d Instead of obliging, the DAR\u2019s National Board of Management spent the October weekend scheming to disband the dissenting chapter.<\/p>\n<p>The decision effectively excommunicates the Martha Laird chapter members from the DAR unless they manage to secure a spot in another chapter by Nov. 9. The letter was careful to note that these \u201cMembers-At-Large\u201d will only be allowed to keep their current DAR status if they are \u201caccepted by the other chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear if other chapters that participated in the proposals to protect the DAR from males masquerading as females are also on the chopping block.
