Ilhan Omar actually knew how to appreciate the meritocracy of sports, it might\u2019ve saved her from this damning video from about six months ago.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NBIsvNc76io?si=ioRl4eu0-JNKN7mS\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Appearing on the Breakfast Club with host Charlamagne tha God, Omar covered a wide range of topics.<\/p>\n<p>But none of these six-month-old remarks have aged quite like Omar\u2019s thoughts about how an investigation is supposed to work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Justice Department has said that they\u2019re also going to look into your husband. Are you concerned about that?\u201d one of the co-hosts asked Omar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey haven\u2019t said\u2026 I haven\u2019t seen a single investigation,\u201d Omar said. She also quipped, \u201cIf you know of some let me know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well. There <em>is <\/em>an investigation into Omar now, after federal agents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/raw-footage-federal-agents-remove-evidence-ilhan-omars-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raided<\/a> her residence on Monday. And it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-ilhan-omars-staff-changed-birthdate-official-records-citizenship-may-fraudulent-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not even the only<\/a> investigation into Omar.<\/p>\n<p>But as any sensible, non-partisan hack will tell you, an investigation <em>does not <\/em>mean that there is wrongdoing. Omar is innocent until proven guilty, just like every other alleged criminal in U.S. history.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly enough, however, it\u2019s not clear just how sensible Omar is (there\u2019s little doubt she\u2019s partisan). Because look at what else she had to say about being investigated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, if you\u2019ve done something illegal, you would investigate,\u201d Omar said.<\/p>\n<p>Oh. Is that how this works? An investigation is enough to pass a guilty verdict? Because you only investigate <em>if  <\/em>\u201cyou\u2019ve done something illegal,\u201d according to Omar.<\/p>\n<p>And look, it doesn\u2019t take a rocket surgeon to connect the dots on why Omar wants to peddle this line. President Donald Trump had <em>his <\/em>residence raided once upon a time, and it\u2019s clear that that investigation was enough to convict the president in the court of the left.<\/p>\n<p>That tough talk was clearly meant to cast judgement on President Trump, particularly after the Mar-a-Lago raid.<\/p>\n<p>But now that it\u2019s Omar the one under investigation, I wonder if she\u2019d appreciate being presumed guilty. Probably not. So why is it so hard for online reactionaries on the left to offer this same grace to conservatives that they so willingly offer to Omar?<\/p>\n<p>The principle of innocent until proven guilty shouldn\u2019t be some partisan luxury, available only to politicians whose names are followed by the correct letter in parentheses.<\/p>\n<p>Either investigations are evidence of wrongdoing, or they\u2019re not. And if Omar wants to enjoy the presumption of innocence today, she should\u2019ve been willing to extend that same courtesy to her political opponents six months ago.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what makes this whole episode so frustrating. The standards for guilt and innocence seem to change depending on who\u2019s standing on the receiving end of a federal investigation. Just look at the way, say, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded to the Mar-a-Lago raid (this is good) versus her response to the Omar raid (this is bad).<\/p>\n<p>And that brings us back to those soft and sweet words.
