Harry Enten, CNN’s chief data analyst, highlights that if polls underestimate Republican support by just a few points-historically around 3.5 to 4 points-they could lead to Republicans maintaining or gaining control of the Senate. He suggests that most polls tend to favor Democrats, and that key states like Michigan, Maine, Alaska, Iowa, and Kansas might flip Republican if current trends continue. Enten emphasizes that underestimating Republicans has been a common pattern as 1994,with polls frequently enough missing the Republican advantage. Additionally, Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer warns of a notable influx of Republican campaign funding, including contributions from figures like Donald Trump and Elon musk, which could influence the election’s outcome. the analysis indicates that polling errors and hefty Republican fundraising could favor the GOP, potentially shifting control of the Senate.

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten said Monday that Republicans have a substantial chance of maintaining their Senate majority if polling numbers are off by only a few points.

Enten pointed out that the polling industry has consistently favored Democrats in past elections and said it would not take much for the Republicans to hold on to vital toss-up seats.

“Let’s just say we have the 2026 Senate polls, but if the polls are underestimating the Republicans by 3.5 points, which you know is really possible, because we’ve seen it through the history, right?
