But now that one of their own has found herself the subject of a federal search, Jeffries and his party are <a href=\"https:\/\/democraticleader.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/joint-democratic-leadership-statement-raid-ilhan-omars-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">singing<\/a> a different tune.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-57142656\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The search at issue happened early Monday morning at the Washington, D.C., residence of Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/ilhan-omar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ilham Omar<\/a>, D-Minn. According to sources who spoke with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/ilhan-omars-home-dc-searched-hsi-pre-dawn-raid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox News<\/a>, federal Homeland Security Investigations agents executed the judicially authorized search as part of a \u201ccriminal fraud investigation into the Somali-born congresswoman\u2019s immigration paperwork, which was filled out by her late father when she was a child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Omar has faced notable allegations of corruption through the years, some of which rest on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/yes-ilhan-omar-married-her-brother\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extensive<\/a> evidence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.powerlineblog.com\/archives\/2019\/07\/david-steinberg-tying-up-loose-threads-in-the-curious-case.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suggesting<\/a> that the Muslim representative legally married her flamboyant brother before a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-7353277\/Christian-minister-married-Ilhan-Omar-brother-refuses-shed-light-marriage.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christian minister<\/a>,\u201d as Federalist Senior Contributor Ben Weingarten <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/01\/14\/its-not-a-minnesota-problem-its-a-blue-state-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Omar predictably <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/IlhanMN\/status\/2109675562344087792?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cast<\/a> Monday\u2019s search on her estate as \u201can attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement\u201d \u2014 a talking point quickly adopted by Jeffries and fellow Democrats. But such rhetoric is a significant departure from Democrats\u2019 gleeful response to the Biden FBI\u2019s 2022 raid on Mar-a-Lago, which came as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/jack-smith\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jack Smith<\/a>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/15\/judge-in-docs-case-throws-out-dojs-lawfare-against-trump-rules-jack-smiths-appointment-unconstitutional\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">illegal classified documents<\/a> lawfare against Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Presidential wannabe and Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., released a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RoKhanna\/status\/2109678622638317928?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">video message<\/a> on Monday decrying the search of Omar\u2019s home as a \u201ctargeting\u201d of Trump\u2019s \u201cpolitical opponents.\u201d He also seemingly suggested that the move was based on the fact that Omar is Muslim. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That response is a complete 180-degree turn from the one Khanna gave following the FBI\u2019s Mar-a-Lago infiltration. Appearing on MSNBC, the California congressman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/video\/2022\/08\/08\/rep_ro_khanna_fbi_must_have_some_probable_evidence_if_a_judge_signed_off_on_a_search_warrant_of_mar-a-lago.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defended<\/a> the Biden administration\u2019s actions as \u201cnon-political\u201d and claimed that the FBI had \u201csome probable evidence about possible wrongdoing\u201d since it got a judge to sign off on the search warrant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepJayapal\/status\/2109678382707274034?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">characterized<\/a> the search of Omar\u2019s residence as \u201ca disgusting abuse of power\u201d and \u201ca dangerous sign of an authoritarian president who will stop at nothing to distract you from his deep unpopularity with the American people.\u201d When it came to the raid on Mar-a-Lago, however, Jayapal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/1056632\/im-glad-top-progressive-dem-says-trump-should-be-in-jail-after-fbi-raid\/?srsltid=AU7gw4VAN_AvBNTiML_pVjXG964P8Z4UBls71xupKKXGbCENnrGtap4S\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">applauded<\/a> the Biden administration and said that Trump \u201cshould be in jail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., similarly came <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepBowman\/status\/2109702108903588053?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rushing<\/a> to Omar\u2019s defense by claiming that the search of her home is designed to satisfy Trump\u2019s base, whom he called \u201cblood-thirsty\u201d and \u201cracist.\u201d Yet, when <a href=\"https:\/\/transcripts.cnn.com\/show\/sotu\/date\/2022-08-14\/segment\/01\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pressed<\/a> by CNN after the Mar-a-Lago raid about whether Congress should investigate Trump over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/karine-jean-pierre-shut-out-foxs-peter-doocy-heres-what-he-would-have-asked\/\" title=\"Karine Jean-Pierre Shut Out Fox\u2019s Peter Doocy: Here\u2019s What He Would Have Asked\">classified documents issue<\/a>, the ex-Squad member defended the raid and fervently agreed by saying, \u201cOh, absolutely. Trump should be investigated for many things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Omar\u2019s Islamist sister-from-a-different-mister and fellow Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., also <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepRashida\/status\/2109683915468210452?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">threw<\/a> her \u201cTrump is grossly abusing his power\u201d hot-take out on social media. The America-hating congresswoman notably <a href=\"https:\/\/michiganadvance.com\/2022\/08\/17\/tlaib-on-trump-he-needs-to-be-held-accountable-just-like-anybody-else\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defended<\/a> the Biden DOJ\u2019s raid on Trump\u2019s home with Democrats\u2019 played out \u201cNo one is above the law\u201d schtick.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., is another Democrat now <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepDonBeyer\/status\/2109671888377057733?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">criticizing<\/a> the feds\u2019 Omar search after previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/08\/08\/trump-fbi-search-reaction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trotting out<\/a> the Trump is \u201cnot above the law\u201d talking point to run interference for the FBI\u2019s Mar-a-Lago raid. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Shawn Fleetwood is a staff writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
