It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But he then accused Israel\u2019s government of engaging in an \u201congoing genocide in Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThree years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment,\u201d the mayor said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It instead continued through the Israeli government\u2019s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians\u2014including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them \u2013 all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment.<\/p>\n<p>To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani (@NYCMayor) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NYCMayor\/status\/2107813239585120609?\">October 7, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>You can\u2019t get much more pro-Palestinian than describing Israel as an occupying nation engaging in genocide.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s have a reality check here.<\/p>\n<p>When the British ended their governance of Palestine in 1948, there were about 1.2 million Arabs living in the territory, which included Gaza and the West Bank, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfr.org\/backgrounders\/what-know-about-arab-citizens-israel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Council on Foreign Relations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations partitioned the land between the Jews and Arabs \u2014 in other words, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-dsa-co-chair-calls-annihilation-israel-describing-one-state-palestinian-solution-jerusalem-capital\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two-state solution<\/a> \u2014 and Israel established its own government on May 14, 1948.<\/p>\n<p>In Israel proper today, there are 2 million Arabs, making up one-fifth of the population, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/10\/21\/middleeast\/arab-israeli-citizens-cmd-intl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> reported in 2023. They serve in the Israeli Defense Forces, Israel\u2019s parliament, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/news\/swell-of-arabs-in-israeli-healthcare-since-2010-study-suggests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">all aspects<\/a> of society.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the Gaza Strip has a population of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unrwa.org\/where-we-work\/gaza-strip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2.4 million<\/a>, and the Palestinian population in the West Bank is about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/9\/16\/ten-maps-to-understand-the-occupied-west-bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3.3 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If the Israelis intended to engage in genocide, they have done a very poor job, because the Palestinian population is nearly five times larger than it was in 1948. In other words, it\u2019s not much smaller than the Jewish population, which is at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.il\/en\/pages\/israel-at-78-a-statistical-glimpse-20-apr-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7.9 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, Wednesday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cant-hide-charge-genocide-pro-palestinian-mob-turns-mamdani\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-Palestinian protesters<\/a> chanted, \u201cMamdani, you can\u2019t hide, you\u2019re committing genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other chants included, \u201cMayor Mamdani take a stand, stop the sale of stolen land,\u201d and even \u201cShame on you,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/10\/07\/us-news\/mamdani-booed-berated-by-anti-israel-protesters-at-nyc-oct-7-memorial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">At an Oct. 7 vigil for Israelis and Palestinians organized by Israelis, a testimony from a Palestinian victim is read. It has a map on the first page featuring \u201cthe Land of Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza,\u201d while also \u201ccompletely erasing the Hebrew Israeli cities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo Tel Aviv or Eilat, for example.
