It fit a progressive narrative of siding with the victimized underdog.<\/p>\n<p>Now, suddenly, and with equal vigor, these same humanitarians were cheering on the most vicious, sadistic deeds imaginable.<\/p>\n<p>All those progressives, who had either mouthed or believed the assurances from the \u201ccivil society\u201d Palestinian camp about their sincere desire for peace and justice, chose to remain silent.<\/p>\n<p>And all the Jews who had repeatedly compromised their \u201ctribal\u201d loyalties to their people in favor of their progressive colleagues, whom they believed acted in good faith, found themselves horribly isolated and abandoned.<\/p>\n<p>For many, this meant realizing that the fondly held belief that progressives really were what they pretended to be \u2014 humane people who cared about victims and opposed oppressors \u2014 was desperately wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Whether they knew it or not, Western progressives now openly sided with a genocidal movement with the most ferocious imperialism on the planet.<\/p>\n<p>Many people did wake up on Oct. 8, and they looked at the savagery of the jihadis and the folly of the \u201cleft\u201d and began to realize just how out of joint the West has become.<\/p>\n<p>For some non-Jews, it was sharp and sudden.<\/p>\n<p>For Danny Burmawi, who was raised in Muslim supremacism \u2014 he celebrated 9\/11 \u2014 having converted to Christianity in Jordan, it was profoundly disturbing. Witnessing a demonstration in Chicago, he realized, \u201cThe fear that shaped the Middle East had crossed the ocean. The world I thought I left behind had arrived ahead of me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My fervent hope is that there are many Oct. 8 people out there \u2014 not just Jews, but also Christians, Muslims, ex-Muslims, and even atheists, progressives, and lovers of justice, who looked at what happened on Oct. 7 in Israel and on Oct. 8 throughout the West with quiet horror.<\/p>\n<p>While a few fools cheered on these revolting deeds that sounded their own doom, a broader public could see clearly the barbarous hatreds of the world\u2019s most savage religious imperialism.<\/p>\n<p>They are permissive of global jihad, and they are useful infidels for the terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>A wake-up call in the Western world has rung clear. If the atrocities of that day had sparked widespread condemnation, the global situation might have improved. However, instead of unity, a coordinated and aggressive campaign emerged where some Western supporters of Hamas cheered for the attackers, tore down hostage posters, defended Hamas\u2019 actions, called for a global uprising like the Intifada, and staged hostile anti-Zionist protests on university campuses. Although this faction was only a small part of those claiming to be progressives, no one in their circles stood up for the victims. Historically, protests against Israel were driven by images of Palestinian suffering aligning with progressive narratives supporting underdogs. Now suddenly and vehemently, these same humanitarians celebrated brutal acts of violence. Many who believed in Palestinian peace efforts remained silent as they witnessed this savagery. Jewish individuals who had previously prioritized progressive alliances over their own community found themselves isolated and betrayed. This revealed that many had been mistaken in trusting that progressives genuinely cared about victims or opposed oppression; instead they now appeared to support a genocidal movement with extreme imperial ambitions.
