The probe aims to determine whether these groups have ties to foreign terrorist organizations and whether they provided aid or support to Hamas. This investigation follows a new Indiana law allowing the attorney general to initiate civil investigations of organizations suspected of terrorist links, with final determinations made by the governor. <\/p>\n<p>CAIR has been sanctioned as a foreign terrorist organization by Florida and Texas due to alleged Hamas affiliations and its efforts to promote pro-Hamas activism and suppress critics. Similarly, SJP has been involved in pro-Palestinian activism on college campuses, including supporting Hamas and hosting protests aligned with anti-Israel sentiments. Some victims of the October 7 attack have sued organizations like American Muslims for Palestine and SJP for alleged complicity, though courts have dismissed such cases.The investigation and scrutiny reflect ongoing concerns about the associations and activities of these groups in relation to terrorism and extremism.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita announced a probe into the Council on American-Islamic Relations and National Students for Justice in Palestine on Wednesday, the third anniversary of Hamas\u2019 Oct. 7 terror attack on Israel. Rokita demands that the groups hand over documents and communications related to their post-Oct. 7 actions and \u201crecords concerning the organizations\u2019 ties to other groups and individuals with known connections to terrorists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough unedited body-camera and security-camera footage from that horrible day, I have seen Hamas murdering unarmed civilians, including children, in their homes and in the street, and while visiting Israel I have seen the aftermath firsthand,\u201d Rokita said. \u201cOctober 7th is Israel\u2019s 9\/11, and just as most of the world stood with us on that day and afterward, the majority of my fellow Hoosiers stand with Israel and against the bigoted barbarity directed at Jews that still exists. The bill <a href=\"https:\/\/iga.in.gov\/pdf-documents\/124\/2026\/senate\/bills\/SB0256\/SB0256.06.ENRH.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">authorizes<\/a> Indiana\u2019s attorney general to launch a civil investigation when he \u201chas reasonable cause to believe a person or entity may be an affiliate of a foreign terrorist organization.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The civil investigation is the first of four steps. Once the AG\u2019s office concludes the civil investigation, he issues a \u201cwritten determination\u201d of whether the organization under investigation is affiliated with foreign terrorist organizations. The organization has 30 days to respond. Indiana\u2019s top law official then \u201csubmits the final determination, supporting evidence, and the organization\u2019s response to the governor,\u201d currently Republican Mike Braun, who makes a final ruling on \u201cwhether to formally designate the entity as a terrorist affiliate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA designated affiliate is denied state funds, contracts, tax benefits, and other state privileges,\u201d a press release announcing the investigation stated.\u00a0\u201cThe demands issued to CAIR and SJP are the first step in the process by which the State will evaluate and determine whether a terrorist affiliate designation may be warranted for these organizations.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>On Oct. 7, 2023, Palestinian terror organization Hamas slaughtered roughly 1,200 people, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rickscott.senate.gov\/2026\/10\/sens-rick-scott-jacky-rosen-resolution-remembering-americans-murdered-by-hamas-in-october-7th-terrorist-attacks-unanimously-passes-senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nearly 50 Americans<\/a>. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cair.com\/press_releases\/cair-reaffirms-condemnation-of-oct-7th-attacks-on-civilians\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has officially<\/a> condemned the attacks, but CAIR\u2019s National Executive Director Nihad Awad asserted that \u201cthe people of Gaza have the right to self-defense, while Israel does not, in a speech that surfaced\u201d several weeks after the attack,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/4349399-white-house-condemns-cair-director-recent-oct-7-comments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> The Hill. \u201cAwad also said he was \u2018happy to see\u2019 the people of Gaza \u2018breaking the siege\u2019 on Oct. 7.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>CAIR\u2019s documented <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/11\/17\/hamas-ally-cair-has-operated-with-impunity-in-america-for-30-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hamas ties and pro-Hamas activism<\/a> go all the way back to its founding in 1994. It also has a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2015\/02\/07\/before-cair-lectures-republicans-it-should-stop-supporting-terrorists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">history of working to censor<\/a> critics of Islam and Islamic terrorism, including by smearing them as \u201cIslamophobes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Late last month, Florida finalized its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/eog\/sites\/default\/files\/executive-orders\/2025\/EO%2025-244.pdf\">designation<\/a> of CAIR as a foreign terrorist organization, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/news\/florida-terrorist-organizations-cair-desantis-legal-challenge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">along<\/a> with the Muslim Brotherhood and Antifa. Florida\u2019s legislation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/eog\/news\/press\/2026\/governor-ron-desantis-announces-implementation-florida-law-combat-terrorist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cuts off<\/a> designated groups from the aid of taxpayer-funded institutions and \u201ccreates state enforcement mechanisms and criminal penalties for providing material support to designated terrorist organizations.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Texas categorized CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations at the end of last year, with Gov. Greg Abbott <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/news\/post\/governor-abbott-designates-muslim-brotherhood-cair-as-foreign-terrorist-organizations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">citing<\/a> the entities\u2019 \u201cgoal\u201d as \u201cto forcibly impose Sharia law and establish Islam\u2019s \u2018mastership of the world.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today we officially designated the Muslim Brotherhood, CAIR and Antifa as terrorist organizations per the anti-sharia law signed earlier this year. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qIZRIFa7au\">pic.twitter.com\/qIZRIFa7au<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ron DeSantis (@RonDeSantis) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RonDeSantis\/status\/2104951116077191236?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 29, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>National Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) is a central player in left-wing, anti-Israel campus protests across the nation following Oct. 7. Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/03\/27\/senate-committee-launches-investigation-into-american-muslim-group-for-alleged-terrorist-ties\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has said<\/a> the group received funding from American Muslims for Palestine, an organization alleged to be affiliated with Hamas. <\/p>\n<p>This year, victims of the Oct. 7 attack \u201csued American Muslims for Palestine, National Students for Justice in Palestine, and others, alleging the groups aided and abetted Hamas,\u201d as <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/benryanwriter\/status\/2106057092628881419?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> by independent journalist Benjamin Ryan. A district court dismissed the suit, and the 4th Circuit affirmed the ruling on appeal.<\/p>\n<p>SJP \u201cbrazenly \u2026 supported\u201d Hamas in the wake of its October attack, says Wall Street Journal writer Elliot Kaufman, and has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TpA0TjMeaWE\">continued its activism<\/a> with so-called \u201cday of resistance\u201d protests.
