Rogers, who narrowly lost his 2024 Senate bid, posted a video stating that prices are too high and that Canada is not an enemy, calling for an end to the tariff war to lower costs for Michigan families. In the ad, rogers mentions working with Democrats to resolve tariffs and criticizes his opponent Abdul El-Sayed for proposing what he claims would be the largest tax increase in history. The trade tensions stem from tariffs imposed by President Trump on Canadian goods, leading to reciprocal tariffs from Canada and increased tensions involving the European Union. Trump responded to Rogers’ ad by suggesting it indicates Rogers supports making a deal with Canada. The dispute has broader implications, with the European Union considering adding Canada as an associate member and threats of increased tariffs on Europe. The article provides context on the trade conflict, including tariffs on American and Canadian goods, and Trump’s statements about future tariff increases and trade policies.

Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers ran an advertisement on Wednesday that seemed to distance himself from President Donald Trump’s current trade spat with Canada to court swing voters in his upcoming election in Michigan.

Rogers, who narrowly lost his bid for the U.S. Senate back in 2024, posted the ad to social media and wrote, “Prices are too high and Canada is not our enemy.
