The university\u2019s investigation ran from November 2024 through May 2025 and ended with two men expelled and others suspended, ABC News reported.<\/p>\n<p>Doe\u2019s account, as described to police and later to campus authorities, was that a visit to a friend at the house became a sexual encounter with two men that grew to include others while she was given alcohol and drugs.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/US\/cornell-student-encounter-fraternity-house-felt-coercion-2024\/story?id=136876885\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2024 statement<\/a> to campus police, she said parts of the night \u201cfelt like coercion.\u201d She later told one of the men, on a recorded call, \u201cWhat y\u2019all did would be classified as gang rape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ingalls\u2019 account to the university was the reverse on the question of consent. During Cornell\u2019s investigation, he said he was too intoxicated to consent and suggested Doe assaulted him, school records reviewed by ABC News showed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/10\/05\/us-news\/cornell-7-frat-bro-claims-he-was-too-wasted-to-consent-to-sex-with-accuser-records\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Post reported<\/a> that the records described him as intoxicated from alcohol and ketamine.<\/p>\n<p>The day before she went to campus police, Doe called Ingalls and told him, \u201cThe only way for me to heal is to know what happened,\u201d according to a recording ABC News obtained. She said she was trying to piece the night together and was confused.<\/p>\n<p>On that call, Ingalls told her, \u201cYou did tell me you were sober, by the way,\u201d and \u201cYou did, you said you hadn\u2019t been anywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Doe answered, \u201cThat is not true. I never would have said that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other outlets that reviewed the same reporting quoted her saying she had been \u201c10 shots deep\u201d when she arrived.<\/p>\n<p>She asked him how other men entered the bedroom. He said the door had been unlocked, the party was crowded, and there was nowhere else to go, according to the recording.<\/p>\n<p>ABC News reported that he did not mention Snapchat messages, later given to university investigators, in which he wrote to a group of nearly 60 members, \u201cLike you can walk in and whip it out,\u201d and \u201cBoys come whip it out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/28\/us-news\/lurid-new-details-in-alleged-cornell-gang-rape-exposed-by-da-as-he-battles-threatening-phone-calls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The civil complaint described<\/a> a related chain in which one brother wrote that there was \u201cfree p***y.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At another point on the call, he said, \u201cIt\u2019s possible that both of us, like, remember this and it\u2019s not true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Doe said she remembered looking up and thinking there were too many people in the room. At a 2025 campus hearing, she said, \u201cI felt like bait,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/US\/cornell-agrees-independent-review-handled-fraternity-sexual-assault\/story?id=136901598\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">university report ABC News reviewed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the days after the sexual incident, Doe stayed in contact with some of the men she later accused, ABC News reported.<\/p>\n<p>In a message to Ingalls, she wrote that the episode was \u201cruining my life temporarily,\u201d that her reputation was destroyed, and that she was ashamed that so many people knew.<\/p>\n<p>After she reported the case, the fraternity brothers exchanged texts about whether to call her. \u201cF***. Should I call [Jane]?\u201d one wrote on Nov. 8.<\/p>\n<p>The chapter president told him to wait while the executive board figured out what it was doing. A friend of Doe later told campus authorities the men tried to contact her almost every day \u201cto keep them on her good side.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten said Doe\u2019s original statement suggested the sex and drug use were consensual, and that his office <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/US\/tompkins-county-das-office-declined-review-additional-material\/story?id=136973934\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">declined to review additional interviews<\/a> beyond her six-page statement to campus police.<\/p>\n<p>Gov.
