Most of America should be cheering that, but we can\u2019t because the left and the media (and yes, as always, I do repeat myself) has told us that they\u2019re quite evil for doing so.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not as if these people know what they\u2019re talking about, though. As if to prove it, in an interview with border czar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/homan-tells-cnn-dems-really-want-government-shut-isnt-really-policy-issue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom Homan<\/a>, a CBS journalist was stumped when he was asked how many people died in ICE custody under the Biden administration \u2014 despite the fact he\u2019d just given a long, data-sodden spiel about how many people had died in ICE custody under Donald Trump\u2019s presidency.<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Extended interview: Tom Homan on GOP criticisms of ICE, Renee Good killing and more\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aReClJzy3jQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The viral clip, in which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/media-pushes-new-pandemic-cbs-news-rolls-fear-campaign-ebola-outbreak-no-vaccine-no-treatment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News\u2019<\/a> Camilo Montoya-Galvez tries (rather unsuccessfully, I would say) to ad-lib to keep the facade of experience up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe looked at official ICE data, sir, and found that 57 people have died in the agency\u2019s custody so far under this administration,\u201d Montoya-Galvez said during the interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, somebody was just reported to have died in ICE custody today by the agency; 2026 could set a new record high in the number of detainees dying. What is being done to prevent that? And I know one partial explanation is that more people are being detained and, so tragically, more people are dying. But that can\u2019t be the only explanation, can it be?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no good answer to that question as posed, which doesn\u2019t address how they die or what they died of, but merely ascribes all these deaths, by the nature of the question, to malice. It gets close to \u201cWhen did you last beat your wife?\u201d territory in terms of the loaded question fallacy.<\/p>\n<p>So, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tom-homan-reveals-next-doj-bondis-exit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Homan<\/a> had a question of his own: \u201cHow many people died during the Biden administration?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pause. Then, again: \u201cHow many people died in custody during the Biden administration? Do you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Montoya-Galvez had an answer: \u201cA significant number,\u201d he said. He was asked again. He got back to the question he wanted to ask: \u201cBut this is going to be the highest year in 2026,\u201d Montoya-Galvez said. \u201cI\u2019m just asking if the pace continues \u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you know how many died during the Biden administration?\u201d Homan asked again.<\/p>\n<p>Looking down at his papers, Montoya-Galvez admitted the obvious: \u201cI don\u2019t have the data here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course you don\u2019t,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-possibly-tom-homans-best-comments-ever-came-razor-sharp-response-popes-criticism-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Homan<\/a> responded. \u201cAgain, it\u2019s another loaded question against the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Homan then went about addressing the substance of that loaded question, such as it may be.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have the highest detention standards in industry, higher than any state or federal institution. Our deaths in custody \u2026 are among the lowest of any state prison or Bureau of Prisons. Numbers are up because our population has doubled in custody. We got over 70 \u2014 I think the other day we had like 74,000 in custody,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we have more people in custody, and we\u2019re dealing with people from third-world nations,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the first doctors they see are our doctors. And matter of fact, no one ever talks about how many lives that ICE saves in detention when they found a serious medical issue that the alien didn\u2019t even know about and we treat. When I was ICE director, I think we spent almost a billion dollars on medical care.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udca5NEW: Tom Homan *TURNS TABLES* on CBS News immigration correspondent and STUMPS him\ud83d\udca5<\/p>\n<p>CBS News\u2019 Camilo Montoya-Galvez asked Homan about deaths in ICE custody under Trump, claiming they \u201ccould set a new record high.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Montoya-Galvez noted the Trump Admin was detaining far more illegal immigrants, he argued that couldn\u2019t be the sole reason.<\/p>\n<p>Homan fired back by asking how many died in custody under Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Montoya-Galvez sat silently for 4 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Homan asked again and again.<\/p>\n<p>Montoya-Galvez had no idea what the answer was.<\/p>\n<p>When he finally acknowledged he didn\u2019t have the data, Homan retorted: \u201cOf course you don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Homan asserted Montoya-Galvez\u2019s question was an example of bias against Trump.<\/p>\n<p>He also defended ICE\u2019s detention standards.<\/p>\n<p>Deaths in ICE detention are tragic, no matter which administration they occur under.<\/p>\n<p>But it doesn\u2019t seem like there was anywhere near as much attention on this issue under Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did Montoya-Galvez not know the data, it looks like he did not even cover ICE detention deaths under Biden.<\/p>\n<p>No wonder Homan\u2019s question stumped him.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jason Cohen \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@JasonJournoDC) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JasonJournoDC\/status\/2106845125582176720?\">October 4, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgain, it\u2019s unfortunate, and it\u2019s sad when anybody dies. I don\u2019t want to see anybody die, but we do everything we can to give them the best medical care that we can provide. And again, highest detention standards,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-tom-homan-ruins-kathy-hochuls-night-unexpected-update-trump-policy-live-tv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Homan<\/a> continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think if you look at deaths in custody compared to state prisons or federal penitentiaries, I think we\u2019re one of the lowest. At least the last time I looked at the data \u2014 it was probably a couple years ago \u2014 we\u2019re the lowest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and in case you were wondering, as of September 2024, 23 people had died in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-brace-riots-cuban-illegal-child-molesters-death-ice-custody-ruled-homicide-despite-fact-testimony-came-detainees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ICE custody<\/a> under Biden, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/immigrantjustice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/ICE-Detention-Snapshot_September-2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Immigrant Justice Center<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/doclib\/foia\/reports\/ddrJoseManuelSanchezCastro.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Three<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/doclib\/foia\/reports\/ddrPankajKaranSinghKataria.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/doclib\/foia\/reports\/ddrRameshAmechand.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deaths<\/a> were reported after this, bringing the total to 26.<\/p>\n<p>But of course, these raw numbers were beside the point. The Biden administration only occasionally pretended to enforce immigration law, which necessarily leads to fewer deaths in custody. If there\u2019s evidence of malfeasance or unusually Dickensian conditions in ICE prisons under Trump, CBS News should bring it out. If not, don\u2019t ask the question.
