Experts suggest this trend may stem from a lack of understanding of the Constitution and its protections, leading youth to sympathize with marginalized groups like Muslims without fully considering how Sharia might conflict with constitutional freedoms.<\/p>\n<p>the polling highlights a broader issue: young Americans frequently enough prioritize the oppressed-versus-oppressor framework promoted by Critical Theory, sometimes at the expense of constitutional principles. This perspective is mirrored in recent demonstrations in France, where protests have featured Palestinian and Communist flags and have been associated with a coalition of Marxist and Islamist ideologies aimed at destabilizing Western democracies.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the polls reveal a significant proportion of young voters support radical ideas such as dismantling Israel in exchange for ending conflicts with Iran and lowering energy prices, reflecting deep skepticism or hostility toward Israel. Experts, including rep. Keith Self, point out that Sharia is incompatible with U.S. constitutional law because it establishes unequal legal standards and potentially creates parallel legal systems that undermine the rule of law. Currently, efforts are underway to counter domestic support for Sharia, but the broader concern remains that young Americans may increasingly adopt frameworks that justify extreme measures to address perceived injustices, posing challenges to foundational American legal and constitutional principles.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A set of polls released this week by <a href=\"https:\/\/our-republic.org\/poll-young-voters-democrats-have-surprisingly-positive-view-of-sharia-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Our Republic and Rasmussen<\/a> show a concerning trend among American youth, especially in light of recently revealed immigration numbers under Biden: A quarter of 18-35 voters polled would support a community implementing Sharia law as the legal code for the entire town, city, or state if the majority of residents living there desired its adoption.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, according to the Our Republic poll:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Overall, 21% of likely voters said they have a mostly or somewhat positive opinion of sharia, compared with 57% who have a negative opinion. Positive views were much higher among younger Americans, including 43% of voters ages 18\u201324 and 39% of those ages 25\u201329.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The reason American youth may be trending this way, according to Justin Haskins, president of Our Republic, is a lack of understanding about the \u201cvalue [of] the Constitution and the protections it provides.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToo many have been taught to see constitutional limits as obstacles to progress, especially when those limits stand in the way of policies they believe would help groups they view as oppressed,\u201d Haskins says. \u201cBecause Muslims are widely perceived by young people as an oppressed or marginalized group, I suspect many default to a sympathetic view of policies associated with Islam without seriously considering whether those policies are compatible with constitutional freedoms. The irony is that, in doing so, they may be undermining the very rights they claim to care about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These findings are particularly relevant as the world <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/france-student-protests-riots-paris-violence-schools-closed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">watches students in France torch the country<\/a>, helped by young denizens who also express a growing support of Sharia law, with that support being driven <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/majority-young-french-muslims-put-222542094.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">by a Muslim population embracing a strict religious observance of Islam<\/a>. The polling stateside \u2014 coupled with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/politics\/us\/donald-trump-migration-muslim-countries-96-white-house\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent numbers from the State Department<\/a> noting \u201crefugee admissions from 45 majority-Muslim countries stood at 21,096 in December 2024 \u2014 Joe Biden\u2019s final month in office\u201d \u2014 suggests that similar to what\u2019s happening in France, support for Sharia might be imported alongside immigration from Muslim nations.<\/p>\n<p>But the Our Republic poll also suggests something even more telling: the willingness of American youth, raised with protected rights under the law, to forgo those rights, even as they conflict with the constitutionally protected rights of the individual and of a people protected from the tyranny of authoritarianism, in service to what Haskins calls \u201cthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-study-youre-citing-on-right-wing-violence-is-fake-data\/\" title=\"The &#039;Study&#039; You&#039;re Citing On Right-Wing Violence Is Fake Data\">oppressor-versus-oppressed framework<\/a> associated with Critical Theory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other findings from the same set of polls <a href=\"https:\/\/our-republic.org\/poll-1-in-5-voters-would-support-dismantling-israel-in-exchange-for-end-to-iran-war-lower-energy-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">clarify<\/a> the suspicion young people have of Israel, with 46 percent of voters ages 18\u201324 and 60 percent of those ages 25\u201329 reporting they would support a proposal \u201cto completely dismantle Israel and replace it with a Palestinian-led nation in exchange for ending the war with Iran and providing the United States with lower oil and gas prices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Haskins does not believe that American youth who take these positions are necessarily committed Islamists, nor does he believe they are considering Sharia primarily \u201cas an extension of religious liberty.\u201d Rather, says Haskins, \u201cthe more important factor is that Muslims are widely perceived as an oppressed or marginalized group in the United States,\u201d he says. \u201cWithin that framework, groups perceived as marginalized are often treated sympathetically without much scrutiny of what those groups or their belief systems actually teach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This position seems to track with what\u2019s happening in France. The world has watched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/france-student-protests-riots-paris-violence-schools-closed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the country burn for<\/a> days as student protesters \u2014 ostensibly driven by failing schools, budget cuts, and student activists who purport to care about such things \u2014 take selfies next to burning trash bins, burning school buildings, and burning police barriers.<\/p>\n<p>But the presence of both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reutersconnect.com\/item\/france-students-protest-clermont-ferrand\/dGFnOnJldXRlcnMuY29tLDIwMjY6bmV3c21sX01UMUhOU0xDUzAwMDNOMDhFRw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Palestinian flags<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/world\/europe\/article\/france-lycee-protests-macron-saint-denis-qrt02s3pc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Communist flags<\/a> at the now-countrywide protest signals something closer to what Haskins describes: a Red-Green Alliance intent on destabilizing the West. The Center for Renewing America describes the <a href=\"https:\/\/americarenewing.com\/issue\/red-green-alliance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alliance<\/a> as drawing \u201con two seemingly conflicting ideologies \u2014 Marxism and Islamism \u2014 bound together by a common mission to tear down the traditional American way of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That traditional American way of life is rooted in the U.S. Constitution, which, as Haskins notes, many young Americans neither fully comprehend nor show much deference to. His poll, he says, is evidence of just how strong the oppressed-versus-oppressor framework is and how much it shapes young Americans\u2019 assessment of policy as it relates to these issues. In this case, their sympathy for a system supported by a group they see as marginalized takes precedence over their understanding of \u201cwhat sharia actually entails\u201d \u2014 \u201ca comprehensive religious and legal system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Rep. Keith Self, R-Texas, who has partnered with U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, on the <a href=\"https:\/\/keithself.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/congressman-self-and-congressman-roys-sharia-free-america-caucus-grows-68\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sharia-Free America Caucus<\/a>, has detailed the myriad ways Sharia is \u201cincompatible with the Constitution,\u201d notably because it would create \u201ca parallel legal system\u201d that would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/119\/meeting\/house\/119267\/documents\/HHRG-119-JU10-20260513-SD001.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">overwrite the single legal standard that applies to all American citizens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Sharia creates unequal legal standards by distinguishing between Muslims and non-Muslims, men and women, and believers and dissenters. These distinctions undermine constitutional protections and expose individuals to social or legal pressure that conflicts with American guarantees of freedom and equality. The United States cannot sustain parallel legal systems because the rule of law depends on one constitutional standard applying equally to every citizen.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So legislators are already working on the problem of domestic support for Sharia, and experts like Haskins are optimistic America\u2019s youth aren\u2019t set to begin embracing radical Islam any time soon.
