He&#8217;s characterized by his confrontational style, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trumps-gutfeld-appearance-makes-history-smashes-records\/\" title=\"Trump&#039;s &#039;Gutfeld&#039; Appearance Makes History, Smashes Records\">awkward public speaking<\/a>, and controversial stances, such as supporting secret abortions for middle schoolers. Pan is currently running for Congress against Republican-turned-independent Kevin kiley, in a race that has garnered attention due to Pan&#8217;s polarizing views and campaign behavior. Despite his influence in California politics, his public demeanor and legislative tactics have limited his wider political career, and recent polls suggest the race is still competitive.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>During a 12-year career in the California state legislature, Dr. Richard Pan earned a <a href=\"https:\/\/californiahealthline.org\/news\/article\/state-senator-richard-pan-champion-tough-vaccine-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reputation as a steamroller<\/a>, authoring the vaccine law \u201cbanning personal belief exemptions for schoolchildren altogether.\u201d Parents have no right to guide their children or make decisions on their behalf. Religion can play no role in your absolute and unquestioning submission to the scientific bureaucracy. The experts, who are simply <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/21507989\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unable to be wrong<\/a>, decide what happens to your child\u2019s body; you don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Pan joined state Sen. Scott Wiener, a fellow groomer-Democrat who is also now running for Congress, to push a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/news\/politics-government\/capitol-alert\/article264914714.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">failed bill<\/a> that would have allowed minors to consent to Covid-19 vaccines without parental knowledge or agreement. Like <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Scott_Wiener\/status\/1484560885364396036\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wiener<\/a> \u2026<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>\n<div>\n<p>         <span>Image Credit<\/span>Screenshot       <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2026 Pan, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/drrichardpan\/details\/experience\/?isSelfProfile=false&#038;vieweeProfileId=ACoAABJPkx0Bq-ylOjjnEGcc45PzFZuNY1uIBqg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pediatrician<\/a> with a public health degree, proudly characterized the bill as an attempt to build on existing California law that excludes parents from sexually themed medical decisions for children, permitting abortions and STD treatment without parental knowledge. (You can watch Pan\u2019s complete comments <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=O-B7y3MkP3M&#038;t=457s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>, in a time-stamped link to legislative floor debate.)<\/p>\n<p>Pan\u2019s deep enthusiasm for secret middle school abortions is a subset of his general enthusiasm for the topic, which he expressed in 2017 by putting on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/RichardPanMD\/posts\/istandwithpp-for-access-to-health-care-for-women-for-womens-reproductive-rights-\/10154441262255674\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pink boxing gloves<\/a> at a rally to show that he would beat up anyone who stood in the way of Planned Parenthood. Kevin Kiley, an <a href=\"https:\/\/heritageaction.com\/scorecard\/members\/k000401\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">adequate conservative<\/a> who <a href=\"https:\/\/calmatters.org\/politics\/2021\/08\/newsom-recall-candidates-kevin-kiley-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> during the pandemic and the Covid-19 vaccine debates that \u201cbodily autonomy will be respected.\u201d Kiley\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/news\/politics-government\/capitol-alert\/article307013361.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">relentless criticism<\/a> of failed California Gov. Gavin Newsom made him a target for the state\u2019s recent <a href=\"https:\/\/lao.ca.gov\/BallotAnalysis\/Proposition?number=50&#038;year=2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">off-year redistricting effort<\/a>, pushing him out of a conservative rural seat and into the Sacramento suburbs.<\/p>\n<p>Trying to survive that blue-shift redistricting, Kiley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcra.com\/article\/rep-kevin-kiley-gop-leadership-decision-to-leave-party\/70686750\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">left the Republican Party<\/a> to run as an independent. For Republican voters, he\u2019s somewhere in the vicinity of a sort of okay choice. But he\u2019s also not Richard Pan, and that\u2019s the strongest imaginable point in his favor.<\/p>\n<p>Pan is just an odd human being, an awkward public speaker who falls apart if someone disagrees with him. A few days ago, Pan allowed <em>some<\/em> media at a campaign event with Queen of Cringe Kamala Harris, but barred reporters who haven\u2019t provided adulatory coverage. One of those reporters, the Sacramento television journalist Ashley Zavala, caught up with him the next day.
