Independent reports say she broke a test tube of live bacteria on September 25, 2026. All have since been placed under \u201cmedical isolation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the region\u2019s governor, Igor Kobzev, has urged locals to remain calm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll identified contact persons have been placed under medical observation,\u201d he wrote on the  app, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themoscowtimes.com\/2026\/10\/02\/nearly-200-people-under-observation-after-irkutsk-lab-worker-dies-from-plague-a93857\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Moscow Times<\/a>. \u201cAs of today, the contacts show no signs of illness, and their laboratory test results are negative.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u2757\ufe0f Meet Darya Shipilova, 28, who worked at Irkutsk\u2019s Anti-Plague Institute as a lab technician. Someone working at the Anti-Plague Institute in Irkutsk wears a protective anti-plague suit,\u201d senior Russian epidemiologist Mikhail Favorov told The Moscow Times, as reported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/news\/article-16182665\/white-house-plague-russia-quarantine.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you break a test tube, the likelihood of infection is actually very low,\u201d he added. \u201cIn short, it doesn\u2019t matter to the general public \u2014 they\u2019ll believe the \u2018broken test tube\u2019 story. It\u2019s absolutely hair-raising.
