Nobody was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/09\/30\/dear-women-your-bad-life-choices-at-cornell-frat-parties-shouldnt-be-national-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">initially charged<\/a> because Doe told school officials she consented to the sexual acts, but two years later, Doe has changed her account of the events and claims she was incapable of consenting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Days after the Cornell 7 story broke, New York\u2019s sitting Attorney General Letitia James weighed in on the allegations, treating them as though they were fact.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-4060161810\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NewYorkStateAG\/status\/2104696012619305306?s=20\">t<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NewYorkStateAG\/status\/2104696012619305306?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">weet<\/a> on September 28, James wrote: \u201cWhat this young woman has been forced to endure is horrific and unacceptable. I\u2019m holding her in my heart and in my prayers. To her, and to all survivors, you\u2019re not alone. We stand with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Days after this post, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul tapped James to look into the case. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But during a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RedWavePress\/status\/2106019752967545340?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press briefing<\/a> on Friday, a reporter asked why Hochul appointed \u201can official who made a public statement affirming those allegations as fact as someone who\u2019s supposed to be doing an investigation?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hochul disregarded the very legitimate concern that James is already a biased party in the story and instead said she is confident that James will \u201cdo what she has always done. Look at the facts, examine the record, and draw the proper conclusions. That\u2019s exactly what\u2019s going to happen in this case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But if James is doing \u201cwhat she has always done,\u201d then the Cornell 7 aren\u2019t going to get a fair and impartial trial.<strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>They\u2019re going to get (metaphorically) the gulag. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">James spent months using lawfare to try and kneecap then-candidate Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 election. James accused Trump of inflating his personal wealth to get more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/review-the-last-emperor-of-mexico\/\" title=\"REVIEW: \u2018The Last Emperor of Mexico\u2019\">favorable loan terms<\/a>. Notably, there were no victims in the case and a court later found the judgment against Trump to be <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/08\/21\/court-finds-ny-judgment-against-trump-unconstitutional-throws-out-515m-penalty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unconstitutional<\/a>. The case was so political that even CNN political commentator Jonah Goldberg <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/01\/11\/jonah-goldberg-trump-civil-trial-politicized\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called<\/a> the \u201cprosecution \u2026 a mistake\u201d and \u201cvery political.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo argued the case was also the result of political lawfare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf his name was not Donald Trump, and if he wasn\u2019t running for president, I\u2019m the former AG in New York, I\u2019m telling you that case would have never been brought, and that\u2019s what is offensive to people,\u201d Cuomo <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/06\/22\/andrew-cuomo-trump-civil-fraud-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said during<\/a> a June 2024 appearance on <em>Real Time with Bill Maher: Overtime<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it was no surprise that James brought the case, having <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-fraud-new-york-letitia-james-lawsuit-a3a2c2569440c24bd5c5262103cb8390#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">campaigned<\/a> on using lawfare to target Trump and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/09\/21\/james-lawsuit-trump-longstanding-battle-00058128\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">calling<\/a> him an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=D1yj0NKSsuU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">illegitimate president<\/a>.\u201d As <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/09\/01\/whistleblower-in-letitia-james-office-says-he-was-ordered-to-target-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Federalist\u2019s Matt Kittle<\/a> reported, a prosecutor in James\u2019 office even said he was ordered to target Trump, which is why Hochul\u2019s assurance that James will \u201cdo what she has always done\u201d is problematic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">James declared Trump illegitimate, campaigned with a promise to target him, and then brought a case so obviously political that even prominent Democrats questioned it. James has already publicly treated the Cornell allegations as fact being tasked with investigating it.
