Kathy Hochul <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/statement-governor-hochul-cornell-university-sexual-assault-case-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appointed<\/a> James as the special prosecutor to oversee the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve lost faith in the Tompkins County DA\u2019s ability to fairly oversee it,\u201d Hochul <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GovKathyHochul\/status\/2105811934989697405\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> on X.<\/p>\n<p>At a Friday news conference with Hochul and James, a reporter pointed to a Monday social media post in which the attorney general wrote, \u201cWhat this young woman has been forced to endure is horrific and unacceptable. I\u2019m holding her in my heart and in my prayers. To her, and to all survivors: you\u2019re not alone. Hochul first stepped in and answered, \u201cI have every confidence in our attorney general to do what she has always done: Look at the facts, examine the record, and draw the proper conclusion. The completely debunked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/woman-center-2006-duke-lacrosse-case-admits-entire-story-fabrication\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Duke Lacrosse<\/a> rape allegations in 2006 immediately come to mind.
