The university charges illegal immigrants a lower rate of $15,740, the same as Delaware residents, while out-of-state students pay $42,470. The DOJ argues that this policy gives illegal immigrants preferential treatment over U.S. citizens, which is prohibited by law. The rate for students from outside of the state is $42,470.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Department of Justice\u2019s efforts will not cease until we have challenged every state law or university policy that gives preferential treatment to illegal aliens over our Nation\u2019s own citizens,\u201d Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward Jr. said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongress long ago made clear that states cannot give reduced tuition to illegal aliens not available to all Americans. When a state Attorney General allows her own state to violate federal law, this department must step in to enforce it,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate of the Justice Department\u2019s Civil Division said that \u201cthis is a simple matter of federal law: colleges cannot provide benefits to illegal aliens that they do not provide to U.S. citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udea8 NOW: The Department of Justice has SUED the University of Delaware to abolish their in-state tuition for illegal aliens<\/p>\n<p>Stop DISCRIMINATING against US citizens!
