Jon Husted (Ohio) with data centers, attempting to leverage teh issue to weaken his campaign. Initially, Democrats highlighted data centers as a controversial topic and linked it to Republicans, gaining an advantage. Republicans have recognized the negative impact of this strategy and are planning responses. Republicans have begun privately acknowledging the damage the issue has done in many races and have begun maneuvering to respond.
