Councilman Won&#039;t Criticize ...\">piece criticizes local leaders<\/a> like Mayor Abdullah Hammoud for their pro-islamic rhetoric, associations with organizations linked to terrorism, and support for ideologies that question the rights and safety of non-Muslims. it raises alarms about the cultural and legal implications of these developments and questions weather the American justice system will adequately safeguard religious freedoms and equal rights.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>On Sept. 17, the American Freedom Law Center filed a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/bhweingarten\/status\/2100598586224300394?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">landmark lawsuit<\/a> on behalf of a Dearborn, Michigan, resident, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/09\/17\/law-firm-sues-dearborn-mich-for-discrimination-in-favor-of-islam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alleging<\/a> that the Arab-majority Detroit suburb, led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2013\/11\/06\/arab-americans-become-majority-on-dearborn-mich-council\/3460591\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Muslim<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigannewssource.com\/2025\/09\/dearborn-police-chief-recites-muslim-prayer-says-city-better-served-with-more-arab-officers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">officials<\/a>, has promoted Islam and discriminated against and fostered hostility towards Christians and Jews \u2014 in violation of the Constitution\u2019s establishment clause.<\/p>\n<p>The details of the case brought by my courageous colleague, Federalist Senior Legal Correspondent Margot Cleveland, are shocking. She alleges that Dearborn\u2019s leaders have endorsed glitzy Ramadan displays and advertised an iftar dinner with public funds. Conversely, they have allegedly ignored Cleveland\u2019s requests for comparable commemorations for Christian and Jewish holidays and sidestepped concerns over public rallies glorifying jihadism. They have also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meforum.org\/fwi\/fwi-news\/journalist-sues-dearborn-and-its-mayor-for-anti-christian-anti-jewish-discrimination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">berated<\/a> a Christian pastor and fellow constituent. Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud called Pastor Ted Barham a \u201cbigot\u201d and \u201cIslamophobe\u201d who \u201cis not welcome here\u201d when he questioned the city\u2019s renaming of a city street for an avowed Hamas and Hezbollah supporter.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint cites past instances where courts have found the city to have discriminated against non-Muslims.<\/p>\n<p>Having petitioned her elected leaders to treat all religions equally, only to face stonewalling, Cleveland has taken them to court in defense of her and her neighbors\u2019 sacred rights.<\/p>\n<p>A victory for AFLC could end such discrimination and set a powerful precedent. It would send a message to other like-minded officials nationwide. Cleveland\u2019s complaint should also serve as a clarion call for Americans about the potential consequences of Islamization.<\/p>\n<h2>Islamization in the U.S.<\/h2>\n<p>The suit comes amid a post-9\/11 <a href=\"https:\/\/cis.org\/Camarota\/911-Number-Immigrants-Muslim-World-Has-Grown-18-Million\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">surge<\/a> in Islamic immigration to America, as American Muslims increasingly seek not only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-independent.com\/news\/world\/americas\/dallas-airport-islamic-feet-washing-stations-greg-abbott-b3033853.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">accommodations<\/a> for their <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/new-york-city-muslim-call-to-prayer-310d428e84733640eb16fa7a18baffb6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">religious<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearinvestigations.com\/articles\/2026\/05\/27\/sharias_growing_influence_on_us_finance_1185046.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">and<\/a> cultural <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/CAIRs-Back-to-school-resource-guide-2026-2027-compressed.pdf#page=13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">practices<\/a> but assimilation of others into their <a href=\"https:\/\/jewishonliner.org\/p\/inside-cairs-2026-2027-back-to-school-guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">worldview<\/a>, and as Muslim <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearinvestigations.com\/articles\/2026\/08\/11\/how_hamas_attack_on_israel_is_transforming_american_politics_1199748.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mega-donors<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearinvestigations.com\/articles\/2026\/08\/18\/a_call_to_power_islamic_leaders_see_ballot_box_as_path_to_paradise_1200926.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leaders<\/a>, and sometimes terror-tied <a href=\"https:\/\/muslims.vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">institutions<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/MtV3e#selection-4749.0-4749.363\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">push<\/a> for their co-religionists to secure greater <a href=\"https:\/\/cairflorida.org\/press\/cair-cair-action-to-release-2026-directory-of-elected-muslim-officials-documenting-muslim-civic-leadership-across-america\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">political power<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The case raises questions about whether non-Muslims in other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearinvestigations.com\/articles\/2026\/08\/26\/american_medinas_turning_us_cities_into_beachheads_for_islam_1202481.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">increasingly Muslim locales<\/a> will get the Dearborn treatment too. The court\u2019s response will reveal to Americans whether the law will provide refuge should we find our rights infringed.<\/p>\n<p>The suit claims that \u201cacts, customs, policies, practices, and\/or procedures that favor Muslims and discriminate against Christians and Jews\u201d reflect the mayor\u2019s \u201cmessage \u2026 that Christians and Jews are not welcome \u2026 and are, indeed, <em>second-class citizens<\/em>.\u201d [Emphasis added.]\n<p>Islam is a proselytizing religion. To bring the world under Allah\u2019s command, it calls for employing means including persuasion, subversion, coercion, and violent jihad. Allah\u2019s rule takes the form of sharia law, governing not only religious practices but all aspects of life, public and private. Sharia abides neither freedom of religion nor speech, brooks no dissent, subjugates women and minorities, and imposes a host of illiberal rules.<\/p>\n<h2>Persecution of Non-Muslims<\/h2>\n<p>The charge of second-class citizenry is poignant given the plight of non-Muslims living under Muslim rule.<\/p>\n<p>Historically, in accordance with Islamic doctrine, Muslims imposed Islam on infidels under threat of the sword. Rulers designated recalcitrant non-believers, who were spared a bloody death, as <em>dhimmis<\/em>, second-class citizens. Their masters levied a special <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meforum.org\/dhimmitude-project\/confronting-the-legacy-of-jizya-as-an-instrument-of-subjugation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>jizya <\/em>tax<\/a><em> <\/em>on them, prevented them from freely worshipping, and persecuted them.<\/p>\n<p>Today, across the Middle East and Africa, Christians in Muslim lands face <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-resolution\/594\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">persecution<\/a>. Amid a mass influx of Muslim immigrants, governments have assimilated into their system, imposing de facto sharia speech codes by punishing those who blaspheme Islam under the guise of \u201chate speech\u201d regulations.<\/p>\n<p>While leftists and Islamic activists have sought to weaponize charges of \u201cIslamophobia\u201d against Americans who speak openly and honestly about Islam in a bid to silence them, the First Amendment has to date held \u2014 albeit while Islamic supremacists have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/32e71de0-b60c-cbdc-34ca-61b92452aacc\/2026-08-05-PM_Testimony_Klepach_b070035d-8482-4ebd-a0c7-69e9eb5d83e6.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exploited<\/a> it to <a href=\"https:\/\/r.search.yahoo.com\/_ylt=A2RRPPjILLxq_AIA6tYPxQt.;_ylu=Y29sbwN1cy1lYXN0LTEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3Ny\/RV=2\/RE=1791926729\/RO=10\/RU=https%3a%2f%2famericanmind.org%2fsalvo%2funholy-alliance%2f\/RK=2\/RS=xPaAk3svsZrTq3naxT4WQMuuAaE-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">advance their cause<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>American Muslims\u2019 Worldview<\/h2>\n<p>Some 60 percent of American Muslims hail from foreign countries, mainly ruled by regimes with sharia-subordinate constitutions. Demands for separate public religious accommodations, halal food, sharia-compliant financial products, and public blaring of the call to prayer have followed as the Muslim population in America has swelled.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, startling percentages of American Muslims harbor views antithetical to those of Americans and the American system. Relatedly, as I recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearinvestigations.com\/articles\/2026\/08\/11\/how_hamas_attack_on_israel_is_transforming_american_politics_1199748.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chronicled<\/a> at RealClearInvestigations, American Muslims have made support for Palestinian Arabs over Israelis \u2014 an inherently religious conflict \u2014 core to their identity. Associated animus towards Jewry, the Jewish state, and the Judeo-Christian West increasingly serves as the glue holding a burgeoning Red-Green alliance together.<\/p>\n<p>More alarming is what may be preached in American mosques. While such studies are sparse, a 2011 <a href=\"https:\/\/pt.icct.nl\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-04\/Article%206_0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">analysis<\/a> indicated that of 100 such houses of worship, 80 percent had texts advocating violence; in 84.5 percent, the imam recommended studying violence-positive texts; and 58 percent invited imams known to promote violent jihad.<\/p>\n<p>Ali asserts that \u201cIslamist literature and rhetoric present the West not simply as a place of refuge or opportunity but as a field of settlement in which future generations, raised inside Islamist-shaped institutions, may one day demand Sharia-based norms through democratic or quasi-democratic means,\u201d and cautions that while Europe is further down this road to Islamization, \u201cAmerica is catching up fast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Juxtapose this background with the views and actions of Dearborn religious leaders and residents, the record of its mayor, and the city\u2019s alleged disparate treatment of non-Muslims.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.memri.org\/reports\/delegation-middle-east-michigan-governor-gretchen-whitmer-includes-dearborn-michigan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dearborn<\/a> and surrounding municipalities have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2026\/apr\/15\/dearborn-americas-first-muslim-run-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hotbeds<\/a> for pro-jihadist agitation. Local mosques have commemorated the deaths of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.memri.org\/tv\/dearborn-shiite-mosque-khamenei-memorial-devil-lucifer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">martyrs<\/a>,\u201d including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2025\/09\/30\/dearborn-islamic-center-holds-memorial-mourning-hezbollah-chief-nasrallahs-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hezbollah<\/a> leaders and other designated terrorists in recent years. Imams <a href=\"https:\/\/jihadwatch.org\/2023\/11\/michigan-muslim-cleric-says-palestinians-are-fighting-on-behalf-of-the-entire-nation-of-muhammad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">openly<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/opinion\/welcome-to-dearborn-americas-jihad-capital-pro-hamas-michigan-counterterrorism-a99dba38\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">celebrated<\/a> Hamas\u2019 Oct. 7 attack. An October 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/extremism.gwu.edu\/sites\/g\/files\/zaxdzs5746\/files\/2024-10\/Full%20Report_compressed.pdf#page=42\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a> from George Washington University\u2019s Program on Extremism identified Dearborn as a \u201chub\u201d of \u201cUS-based Islamic centers that most unequivocally disseminate the ideology of the Iranian regime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Locals have taken to the streets en masse, clad in Hamas and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.memri.org\/reports\/participants-shiite-arbaeen-procession-dearborn-michigan-wave-flags-us-designated-terrorist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hezbollah<\/a> garb, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute \u2014 as they have for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.memri.org\/reports\/once-again-dearborn-michigan-celebrates-international-quds-day-%E2%80%93-established-ayatollah\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two decades<\/a>, chanting \u201cDeath to America\u201d and \u201cDeath to Israel\u201d in celebration of International Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Day, which was established by the father of Iran\u2019s Islamic revolution.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, following the assassination of Ayatollah Khamenei, leader of a regime with the blood of thousands of Americans on its hands, Michigan Democrat Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/internet-erupts-over-disqualifying-leaked-audio-from-democrat-in-key-senate-race-discussing-khameneis-death\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told staff<\/a> he would not be commenting on the theocrat\u2019s demise for fear it would inflame constituents.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, El-Sayed said \u201churt people hurt people\u201d in rationalizing an attempted jihadist attack on nearby Bloomfield, Michigan\u2019s Temple Israel earlier this year by the relative of an assassinated Hezbollah commander. The assailant, hailing from nearby Dearborn Heights, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/2026\/09\/09\/michigan-residents-convicted-absolved-backing-terror-groups-911\/91475093007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one of many<\/a> from the area linked to terror \u2014 including those prosecuted for plotting, planning, and supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/8fT1k#selection-859.0-862.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hezbollah<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/local\/wayne-county\/2025\/11\/10\/dearborn-halloween-terror-suspects-consent-to-be-jailed\/87184717007\/?gnt-cfr=1&#038;gca-cat=p&#038;gca-uir=true&#038;gca-epti=z1118xxp004350c004350e1118xxv004256d--42--b--42--&#038;gca-ft=180&#038;gca-ds=sophi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">and<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/2026\/09\/09\/michigan-residents-convicted-absolved-backing-terror-groups-911\/91475093007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ISIS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Dearborn\u2019s Muslim Mayor<\/h2>\n<p>As for Mayor Hammoud, that he harangued Pastor Barham over his criticism of the renaming of a city street for Arab American News publisher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.memri.org\/reports\/delegation-middle-east-michigan-governor-gretchen-whitmer-includes-dearborn-michigan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Osama Siblani<\/a> should not have been surprising. The mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/arabamericannews.com\/2025\/09\/12\/wayne-county-names-warren-avenue-in-the-heart-of-dearborn-after-osama-siblani-honoring-his-journalistic-and-political-legacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">celebrated<\/a> the renaming for the pro-jihadi newsman at a public ceremony, calling him \u201cthe voice of this community.\u201d Previously, Hammoud spoke at a \u201cStand With Lebanon\u201d rally that Siblani emceed, in which the publisher said Israelis fleeing northern Israel under threat from Hezbollah should \u201cGo back to Poland.\u201d Hammoud, speaking before participants who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.memri.org\/tv\/protesters-dearborn-rally-support-lebanon-cheer-nasrallah-hizbullah-mayor-abdullah-hammoud-osama-siblani-netanyahu-back-poland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reportedly<\/a> shouted, \u201cDeath to Israel,\u201d extended his \u201cGreetings to the resistance, from Dearborn, Michigan!\u201d Likewise, at a putatively pro-Palestinian event held a month after Hamas\u2019 Oct. 7 jihad, Hammoud dubbed Dearborn a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.memri.org\/tv\/deraborn-michigan-palestine-rally-adam-abusalah-biden-cancer-mayor-abdullah-hammoud-resistance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">city of resistance<\/a>\u201d \u2013 arguably a euphemism for jihadist support. He has called Israel\u2019s war in Gaza a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.meforum.org\/mef-online\/dearborns-mayor-helps-terrorize-diaspora-jews-with-genocide-lie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">genocide<\/a>,\u201d a blood libel. In commemoration of an exhibition the city promoted this summer highlighting stories of Gazan children killed during the war, Hammoud added that Israel\u2019s \u201cgenocidal campaign \u2026 has spread to Lebanon\u201d too.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, under public questioning regarding alleged noise violations stemming from local mosques\u2019 blasting of the call to prayer, Hammoud <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/muslim-dearborn-mayor-weighs-residents-complaints-about-mosques-call-prayer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dismissed<\/a> constituents\u2019 concerns, calling it \u201cfor me \u2026 not an issue.\u201d As a state representative, Hammoud <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/wip\/DV6Kx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opposed<\/a> legislation aimed at banning the use of sharia law in Michigan courts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/weingarten.substack.com\/p\/abdul-el-sayeds-aipac-invective-masks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Like El-Sayed<\/a>, a close ally of his, Hammoud has garnered the support of and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cair.com\/press_releases\/caircon-2026-announcement-dearborn-mayor-abdullah-hammoud-to-speak-at-cair-32nd-annual-gala-and-policy-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spoken<\/a> before the Muslim Brotherhood-tied <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/cairactionmw\/status\/1984328252505342278?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)<\/a>, named by prosecutors as an unindicted co-conspirator in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-reps-launch-new-sharia-caucus\/\" title=\"Texas reps launch new Sharia Caucus\">largest terrorism financing case<\/a> in U.S. history. He has also addressed another organization prosecutors named as a co-conspirator in that case, the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ISNAHQ\/status\/2091997727374631096?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Islamic Society of North America<\/a>, and garnered the <a href=\"https:\/\/arabamericannews.com\/2021\/06\/02\/emgage-endorses-abdullah-hammoud-for-dearborn-mayor-hassan-ahmad-and-mo-baydoun-for-dearborn-heights-city-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">support<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/bhweingarten\/status\/2094804427282567272?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">adjacent groups<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hammoud attends the Islamic Center of America, identified in the George Washington University report as a key node for Tehran propaganda. Preachers there have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/news\/dearborn-imam-eulogizes-soleimani-calls-his-killing-a-cowardly-and-heinous-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eulogized<\/a> Qassem Soleimani, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.memri.org\/reports\/islamic-center-dearborn-hosts-annual-memorial-honoring-hizbullahs-spiritual-leader-and-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">memorialized<\/a> the cleric who authorized Hezbollah\u2019s 1983 attack on the U.S. Marine Barracks in Beirut, and <a href=\"https:\/\/extremism.gwu.edu\/sites\/g\/files\/zaxdzs5746\/files\/2024-10\/Full%20Report_compressed.pdf#page=42\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">promoted<\/a> Iran\u2019s propaganda. Hammoud is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meforum.org\/fwi\/fwi-news\/dearborn-heights-mosque-demonizes-israel-supporters-for-ashura\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reportedly<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meforum.org\/fwi\/fwi-research\/the-new-jim-crow-in-dearborn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">close with<\/a> a former mosque leader, Imam Mohammad Ali Elahi. Elahi has not only praised Iran\u2019s leaders, but <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/10\/12\/us-news\/kamala-harris-mingled-with-iranian-regime-operative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">allegedly<\/a> headed the Iranian Navy\u2019s political-ideological office in the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>So is Dearborn\u2019s alleged discrimination against non-Muslims a coincidence, or evidence of creeping dhimmitude? Will non-Muslims in similar communities face a similar fate?
