She was either doing a very good impersonation of an inebriated person or was indeed very inebriated.<\/p>\n<p>And yet, her performance was considered the best of the night by several outfits, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/viewers-beg-cancellation-mtv-video-music-awards-chaos-incompetence-gross-madonna-ruin-already-vile-awards-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more an indictment of the VMAs<\/a> as opposed to just Madonna.<\/p>\n<p>But make no mistake, Madonna is a mess \u2014 and, as the U.K.\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/tvshowbiz\/article-16166681\/madonna-vmas-family-intervention.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Mail<\/a> reported, members of her inner circle who were \u201cpreparing for the worst\u201d after her hospitalization a few years ago are saying that the \u201cchaotic night at this year\u2019s VMAs was just another worrying incident that signals how the notorious control freak just won\u2019t \u2014 or can\u2019t \u2014 slow down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is having everyone around her tell her to actually slow down. She says she has more energy than ever, but her family and friends are saying, \u2018Take it easy,&#8217;\u201d one source told the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after her hospitalization, which was worse than just a case of exhaustion:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Concern for the pop icon\u2019s health has grown in recent years, especially after she revealed last year in a podcast interview with Jay Shetty that she was hospitalized in 2023 for sepsis, a harrowing experience that left her unconscious for four days, on a ventilator and placed in an \u2018induced coma for 48 hours.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>At the time, her longtime manager Guy Oseary issued a statement that she was \u2018rushed to hospital and intubated after being found unresponsive.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>While he said a full recovery was expected, many feared for the singer who had a 40th anniversary tour planned.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Madonna\u2019s condition was so serious that her relatives were \u2018preparing for the worst,\u2019 a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-afghan-who-clung-to-u-s-evac-plane-fell-from-sky-was-a-child\/\" title=\"Report: Afghan Who Clung To U.S. Evac Plane, Fell From Sky, Was A Child\">family member told<\/a> the Daily Mail in the days after her hospitalization.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And now, they\u2019re apparently in the process of negotiating another tour and figuring out whether or not a biopic of her directed by her (a fact that really belies parody, given her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/madonna-chews-staff-live-concert-thousands-fans-jeer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">career of navel-gazing ridiculousness<\/a>) will go forward.<\/p>\n<p>As for the tour, \u201cThere\u2019s a big debate between her and her team as to how the format of the show will be,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe wants to do something big but knows the reality that she can\u2019t do the more extensive tours that she\u2019s done in the past, probably because in some of her more recent concerts, it was too taxing for her. I think she wants to scale it down, but the people around her are probably not wanting her to do anything at all other than a very small and limited run with no more than ten shows in ten cities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Again, I\u2019ll go on the record as having no investment here, but I remember seeing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bob-dylan-became-fbi-target-started-kennedy-assasination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bob Dylan<\/a> in concert in 2009 \u2014 at exactly the same age as Madonna is, it turns out. I also remember him basically standing there and trying his best to work his way through a setlist. I gave him credit for trying, at least.<\/p>\n<p>Granted, Dylan has endured more self-abuse than most of us have, but nobody has ever accused Madonna of being a teetotaler, and while plastic surgery can make her look a great deal younger than her 68 years, you can\u2019t do a facelift on your joints or muscles or larynx or lungs. Considering it\u2019s skeevy enough looking at her trying to imitate a 24-year-old Amsterdam sex worker in her attire, it\u2019ll be more pitiful looking at her trying to ape the same thing she pulled off 30 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s more galling is the fact she wants to push through everything to do this despite the fact she\u2019s just three years removed from a near-death illness. Is this how she wants to be remembered? As a woman who lived out the final desperate years of Mae West, only on stage? That will somehow end happily for her? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=sure%2C+jan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sure, Jan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Just slightly less pathetic is the idea that she\u2019ll direct a biopic about herself instead; that project was also scrapped the same year as her illness, reportedly over budget, although a new studio has \u201crevived interest in it\u201d based on her recent album being slightly less ignored than most of her 21st-century output.<\/p>\n<p>So we\u2019re clear, this is a woman who has limited directorial experience \u2014 including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/we_2011\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wretched film<\/a> about King Edward VIII and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/prince-harry-ignores-people-angry-pat-tillman-award-nomination-accepts-anyway-2024-espys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wallis Simpson\u2019s<\/a> romance \u2014 helming a project about herself where she isn\u2019t shy about how grandiose it will be. \u201cI\u2019ve had an extraordinary life. I\u2019ve had a huge life, so I needed a big budget \u2026 they couldn\u2019t get their heads around it,\u201d she said about getting dropped by her prior studio.<\/p>\n<p>Reality has intervened in the life of Madonna about as often as chastity or Christian propriety has \u2014 but eventually all three get imposed on us in some way or another, whether in this life or the hereafter.
