steady.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-1\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-1\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" Biden\u2019s message that the economy was strong, which still haunts some Democrats, are proving a valuable lesson for swing-seat Republicans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/inflation\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"728\">inflation<\/a> is not as high as it was under Biden after the COVID-19 pandemic, prices continue to rise, as have <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/interest-rates\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"727\">interest<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mortgage-rates\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"7051\">mortgage rates<\/a>, exacerbating cost-of-living concerns amid the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/iran\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"100\">Iran<\/a> war, which has contributed to the problem by upending global <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/energy\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"8777\">energy<\/a> markets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, one farm state Republican strategist told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that farmers, many of whom have supported Trump in the past but are now reconsidering voting for Republicans in the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2026-election\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"11675\">midterm elections<\/a>, are contending with higher input costs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-2\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The strategist cited the price of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gas-prices\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"940\">gas<\/a> and diesel during harvest season, with diesel breaking the $6 per gallon barrier this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source argued that the stronger message for his battleground candidate is to run on a promise to deliver more economic relief for his congressman\u2019s constituents rather than to run on \u201cabstract\u201d economic numbers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The strategy also relies on repeating ad nauseam that Democrats would make the economy worse.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-3\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn polling people report the economy as a top issue and people aren\u2019t feeling great about it,\u201d the strategist said. \u201cBiden tried to talk to people about how good his s***** economy was for them and that didn\u2019t work very well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/michigan\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"655\">Michigan<\/a> Republican strategist Jason Cabel Roe, who is working on another battleground race, agreed that he and his candidate\u2019s strategy regarding the economy is \u201ca lesson learned from the Biden administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPeople are struggling on the affordability issue and trying to convince them that things are great with data points isn\u2019t what they are looking for from their leaders,\u201d Cabel Roe told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cThey are looking for them to focus on the things that are contributing to their struggle. Talking about the macroeconomic picture tends to make a candidate look out of touch.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-4\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-25\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-4\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For most voters, how they feel about the economy outweighs the data points, which aren\u2019t as easily communicable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA), who is in a toss-up race in Virginia, said his constituents \u201cdon\u2019t experience the economy through a GDP report,\u201d but through \u201cthe grocery store, at the gas pump, when they pay their electric bill, and when they try to buy a home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo while it\u2019s important to highlight economic growth and job creation, I am focused on affordability and on whether people actually feel like their paycheck is going further,\u201d Wittman told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cThat\u2019s why my focus has been on lowering costs, keeping <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/taxes\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"302\">taxes<\/a> down, expanding workforce opportunities, increasing American energy production, and making it easier for families and small businesses to get ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-inarticle-ad wex-inarticle-ad-art-dsk-inart-5\">\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap wex-ad-art-dsk-inart-5\" style=\"min-height:90px\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" hidden>Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-26\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-5\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added, \u201cI don\u2019t think voters want politicians telling them the economy is great or terrible based on a statistic. They want us to recognize what they\u2019re experiencing and tell them what we\u2019re doing to improve it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some Republicans are relying on local economic concerns in their pitch to voters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One New York Republican strategist told the <em>Washington Examine<\/em>r that their candidate\u2019s approach is a more nuanced balance between local and national politics, though they reiterated that \u201cit\u2019s a much more understandable message when you can just focus on what you actually delivered for your constituents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe congressman delivered SALT in New York with the Working Families Tax Cuts bill,\u201d the strategist said. \u201cThat\u2019s more what we\u2019re, from a messaging standpoint, leaning on, just because it\u2019s a better message. But the congressman, he\u2019s gone on TV plenty of times pointing to [the economy]. There\u2019s no problem talking about the fact that the economy is actually in a pretty good position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sen. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jon-husted\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"21320\">Jon Husted<\/a> (R-OH), another Republican candidate in a toss-up race, similarly underscores the economy on the campaign trail, including on Tuesday when he amplified that Ohio\u2019s unemployment rate is now the lowest in the state\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">OHIO SETS RECORD \u2013 LOWEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN HISTORY!!!<\/p>\n<p>Ohio\u2019s unemployment rate fell to 3.3% in August\u20140.8 percentage pts below the national average.<\/p>\n<p>The lowest unemployment rate in Ohio history, dating back to when the BLS began publishing state unemployment data in 1973.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jon Husted (@JonHusted) <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JonHusted\/status\/2104943463464939742?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 29, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/cdn-cgi\/scripts\/5c5dd728\/cloudflare-static\/email-decode.min.js\"><\/script><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe also routinely shares that CNBC ranked Ohio the No. 1 state in the country to do business, which is due in large part to Sen. Husted\u2019s work as Ohio\u2019s lieutenant governor,\u201d a Husted spokeswoman told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cHe also has a long history of pioneering job training through business-driven programs like TechCred in Ohio. And, of course, Sen. Husted talks about his work with the Trump administration to pass the Working Families Tax Cut Act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Likewise Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI), who is in a competitive race too, told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that he is \u201cabsolutely \u2026 talking about the economy\u201d because \u201cRepublicans delivered on the things we said we would\u201d through the Working Families Tax Cut Act, such as no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-unveils-1-75t-build-back-better-framework\/\" title=\"Biden unveils .75T \u2018Build Back Better\u2019 framework\">larger child tax credit<\/a>, eliminated the death tax, and tax relief for working families and small businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe problem is the media refuses to cover these real savings and only focus on gas prices,\u201d he said. \u201cSo I wouldn\u2019t say Republicans aren\u2019t talking about the economy.
