The information was disclosed via legally protected whistleblower disclosures. <\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1748924611\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a committee press release, Smith and his team \u201cacquired at least 4,782 checks from Americans who made mainly small-dollar donations to President Trump between September 2019 to August 2023.\u201d Obtained via subpoenas, the checks disclose the donor\u2019s bank account and routing numbers, signatures, and home addresses. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The subpoenas purportedly targeted Americans across all 50 states, as well as Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, according to Grassley. Smith and his team targeted donations of varying amounts, with some of the released checks showing amounts as little as $5 to as much as $1,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo matter what you say, there\u2019s no legitimate basis for what you did. Especially since your staff killed an investigation into the Clinton campaign,\u201d Grassley said during Tuesday\u2019s hearing. \u201cDonations to Republican groups wasn\u2019t necessary to your investigation, which is proved out by the fact it wasn\u2019t mentioned in your public report. Now, the Justice Department and FBI will forever possess thousands of people\u2019s addresses, phone numbers, banks, bank account numbers, bank routing numbers and copies of their true signatures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The committee chair released the damning finding alongside the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/09\/29\/breaking-jack-smith-spied-on-and-targeted-the-federalist-during-bidens-anti-trump-witch-hunt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bombshell revelation<\/a> that Smith and his team obtained communications from The Federalist, along with more than a dozen other media outlets, as part of his anti-Trump lawfare. As The Federalist\u2019s Brianna Lyman reported, The Federalist communications in question \u201cappeared in records that the National Archives turned over after Smith\u2019s office subpoenaed text messages from 87 phones used by officials in Trump\u2019s first term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Federalist CEO and co-founder Sean Davis <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/seanmdav\/status\/2104934497221280018?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said in a Tuesday statement<\/a> that The Federalist is \u201cstill working to determine which of our reporters were targeted by Jack Smith and which journalistic communications he and his thugs seized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Federalist\u2019s team of investigative reporters exposed the Russian collusion hoax. We exposed the Kavanaugh hoax. We exposed the Ukraine impeachment hoax. And The Federalist\u2019s Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway wrote the definitive account of how Democrats seized control of election infrastructure and destroyed the integrity of American elections in 2020,\u201d Davis said. \u201cFor over a decade, The Federalist has fearlessly exposed Deep State corruption and DOJ lies and lawfare.
