During the 2016 election cycle, Libertarian Party spoiler candidate and the former governor of New Mexico could easily be referred to as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/libertarian-party-johnson-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gary \u201cWhat Is Aleppo?\u201d Johnson<\/a> to demonstrate just how little he belonged there.<\/p>\n<p>In the same way, one hopes that a certain Texas Senate nominee goes down as James \u201cGod Is Nonbinary\u201d Talarico.<\/p>\n<p>Talarico, of course, is always referred to as a \u201cPresbyterian seminarian\u201d to give him the veneer of being in the faith and values crowd, even in a heterodox way. Never mind that his pastor is a heretic or that he himself is a lower-key heretic, best expressed in this bit of nonsense on the state legislature floor back in 2021:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udea8 VIDEO: Texas state Rep. You may think that it\u2019s indefensible in an actual church, but I\u2019d like to introduce you to the kind of Christian who thinks like Rep. Talarico: Rev. Flourish Klink.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m pretty sure that Pynchonesque name isn\u2019t her given name, given that she doesn\u2019t identify as her God-given gender. She\u2019s a self-proclaimed transgender individual who refers to herself as \u201cFather Flourish,\u201d according to her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flourishklink.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>. She\u2019s a priest at Christ &#038; St. Stephen\u2019s Episcopal Church in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>Before that, she says, \u201cI used to work in the film industry, doing research on fan cultures. I was a partner and Chief Research Officer at The Alchemists Transmedia Storytelling Co., and later, at Chaotic Good Studios. I don\u2019t do that anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oh, well, thank ye heavens.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s also \u201cin the midst of a project to read every Star Trek novel ever published.\u201d Sometimes, words fail even the writer and he must call for summary judgment, instead.<\/p>\n<p>But I digress \u2014 because actually, Rev. Flourish provided the words herself in a March \u201cCelebration of Trans Joy &#038; Resilience\u201d which is going viral now because her call that \u201cGod is nonbinary\u201d came as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/even-cnns-abby-phillip-cant-help-laugh-cringy-talarico-clip-woke-mad-libs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Talarico\u2019s words<\/a> were beginning to go viral then. It shows the kind of theology that leads to this conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGod is nonbinary, but I\u2019m going to go further than that and I\u2019m going to say God is actually also trans,\u201d Klink said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd now, let\u2019s get on the same page here. When we trans people are born, folks assign us a gender based on what they see,\u201d she continued. \u201cThen, when we\u2019re old enough, we realize that wasn\u2019t right and we\u2019re not, in our deepest selves, the gender that everybody thought we were \u2014 right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wrong, and this is actually in that Good Book you probably should have been reading, as a reverend, rather than all those \u201cStar Trek\u201d novels. But do continue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere\u2019s why God is trans: When God, who as we have established is nonbinary, was born in human form as our Lord Jesus Christ, Mary said, \u2018Oh look, a baby boy.\u2019 God isn\u2019t a boy. We have established this. God is beyond boy and girl. God was assigned a gender at birth. And later on, it became clear that the gender wasn\u2019t quite right. So, if you\u2019re going to deny God is trans, I think you\u2019re going to be denying the divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jesus Christ, she noted, \u201cdid not live life exactly the way your average first-century Judean man did, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo the best of our knowledge, He didn\u2019t get married. We don\u2019t know for sure. He chose to teach and to engage with women in ways that were very unusual, that were not the traditionally masculine way that people might be behaving with each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then Jesus died and Jesus was resurrected. And when Jesus was resurrected, Jesus was different. Jesus didn\u2019t look like Himself\u2026 I think Jesus was resurrected as Jesus\u2019 true self, which is beyond male or female. I think Jesus was not only transfigured. I think Jesus transitioned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Got that? There\u2019s a reason it\u2019s called \u201ccanon.\u201d Then again, hearing her talk, I\u2019m almost amazed she recognizes the resurrection. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/james-talaricos-twisted-rhetoric-faith-makes-sense-listen-pastors-easter-message\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Talarico\u2019s pastor doesn\u2019t<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Just so we\u2019re clear, though \u2014 this is the kind of \u201cfaith\u201d and \u201cvalues\u201d our \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/video-emerges-james-talaricos-favorite-drag-queen-teaching-children-dance-cross-dress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Presbyterian seminarian<\/a>\u201d is really getting behind. God is transgender because Mary misgendered Him and then He resurrected Himself just like trans people do when they realize their real sex. Except He was male the whole time. But if you deny He\u2019s trans, you\u2019re denying His divinity.<\/p>\n<p>Got that? Yeah, me neither.
