The civil case involves a North Carolina \u201chomewrecker\u201d lawsuit filed by Ammel\u2019s ex-wife, Heather Ammel, claiming Sinema pursued her husband while he was working as her security and amid his marriage. Sinema has acknowledged a sexual relationship with Ammel, beginning in May 2024, but asserts it did not occur in North Carolina, attempting to dismiss the lawsuit.Nonetheless, a federal judge permitted the case to proceed based on evidence from texts and surveillance.<\/p>\n<p>Concurrently, Sinema faces a criminal charge after her house was vandalized by Ammel, who is accused of tearing through her Cave Creek residence, damaging over $200,000 worth of property, including paintings, furniture, and a mirror, and scattering broken glass. Kyrsten Sinema is named in a North Carolina \u201chomewrecker\u201d lawsuit. Police in Arizona now say the man at the center of that case wrecked her actual home.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Ammel, 39, Sinema\u2019s former bodyguard and, in court papers, her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.12news.com\/article\/news\/politics\/ex-bodyguard-of-former-arizona-senator-kyrsten-sinema-arrested-after-allegedly-damaging-home\/75-6321dc3f-1b38-41d4-b3c5-18f1a0748efb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cformer boyfriend,\u201d<\/a> is charged with felony criminal damage after deputies say he tore through her Cave Creek home while she was out of town, according to KNPX-TV .<\/p>\n<p>When Maricopa County deputies were called on Sept. 3, Sinema told them the rampage happened on Aug. 30. She said Ammel got inside, demanded she post a video to her X account, and threatened to ruin a painting every 10 minutes if she refused.<\/p>\n<p>She did not post the video. Deputies said\u00a0he pulled about 22 paintings off the walls and threw them in the backyard pool. One more painting near the front door had been hit with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/see-it-reagan-library-sign-vandalized-with-ron-defascist-hours-before-governors-speech\/\" title=\"SEE IT: Reagan Library sign vandalized with &#039;Ron DeFascist&#039; hours before governor&#039;s speech\">black spray paint<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sinema also accused him of smashing expensive liquor bottles, scattering glass through the house and into the water, and hurling a bottle at a large wall mirror until it shattered. With the mirror, glass, pool, and the rest of the mess, deputies estimated more than $200,000 in damage.<\/p>\n<p>Sinema turned over texts, recordings, and surveillance video. Deputies said the cameras showed Ammel doing the damage.<\/p>\n<p>He was taken into custody last week as he left a behavioral health center after a petition for an involuntary psychiatric evaluation, KNPX reported.<\/p>\n<p>At his first court date, deputies said he was combative in the hallway and he did not stand before the judge, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2026\/09\/23\/kyrsten-sinemas-ex-bodyguard-accused-causing-200k-damage-her-cave-creek-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KNPK-TV<\/a>. No bond was set. He has since been released with an electronic monitor and is due back in court.<\/p>\n<p>The criminal case sits on top of a civil one that already made Sinema\u2019s name a punch line in two states.<\/p>\n<p>Heather Ammel, Matthew\u2019s ex-wife, sued Sinema under North Carolina\u2019s alienation-of-affection statute, known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/kyrsten-sinema-bodyguard-homewrecker-lawsuit-15b185d781bf3f5e6281fbd46333c0ae\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201chomewrecker\u201d law<\/a>, according to the Associated Press. She said Sinema pursued her then-husband while he was still married, during his time on Sinema\u2019s security detail.<\/p>\n<p>Sinema has admitted the relationship became sexual. In a July deposition cited by Fox News, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/court-filings-reveal-kyrsten-sinema-sex-multiple-times-married-bodyguard-serving-senator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she said<\/a> it started May 27, 2024, in Napa and continued in New York, Washington, Colorado, and Arizona \u2014 but not, she insisted, in North Carolina. For that reason, she argued, she cannot be sued in North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>A federal judge this month let the suit go forward anyway, citing texts Sinema sent Ammel while he was in the state.<\/p>\n<p>So the former senator is fighting a homewrecker claim in Carolina while Arizona cops inventory a wrecked home in Cave Creek. One is a legal theory, and the other is wet canvas and broken glass.<\/p>\n<p>People who treat other people\u2019s marriages as optional usually assume the bill will never come due, but it does. Reality has a way of collecting, and it is rarely gentle when it does.<\/p>\n<p>Sinema brought this man into her life as security. Deputies now say he is the one who destroyed the house. This is the consequence of her own actions, written up in a sheriff\u2019s report.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody forced Sinema to turn a married bodyguard into a boyfriend. She made that choice, admitted the affair under oath, and is still fighting the North Carolina suit that followed.<\/p>\n<p>The Cave Creek mess is a separate criminal case, but it grew out of the same relationship she chose to start.<\/p>\n<p>People tell themselves they can rewrite the rules around marriage and loyalty and never pay the price. Then the cameras catch the paintings in the water.<\/p>\n<p>That is how this works. You do not get to bend reality forever.
