Especially if you\u2019re running to be in the U.S. Senate.<\/p>\n<p>But, alas, this is a difficult question for the Dems this year, especially for Abdul El-Sayed.<\/p>\n<p>The guy is trying to launder his look, to be fair, with an intensity to the washing process that might actually impress Lady Macbeth. Maybe he could get it right.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, even all that laundering hasn\u2019t enabled him to give a simple yes-or-no answer to the question in a sit-down with one of the more El-Sayed-agnostic Michigan Democrats, state <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dem-michigan-ag-faces-backlash-condescendingly-anti-white-covid-tweet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Attorney General Dana Nessel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nessel made headlines by <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/29\/us-news\/michigan-ag-dana-nessel-skips-democratic-convention-over-israel-antisemitism-fears\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">staying away<\/a> from the state party convention last month out of concern for her safety \u2014 she is, indeed, the \u201cJewish Zionist\u201d in question \u2014 and only confirmed that she was going to vote for the embattled Democratic nominee during a local podcast published Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, I\u2019ll be voting for Abdul,\u201d Nessel said during a recording of \u201cFor the Sake of the Argument with Lori Goldman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have one candidate that I know is going to fight against the Trump administration; who is going to fight to protect both our physical security, our safety, our health, and our futures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the one takeaway <a href=\"https:\/\/michiganadvance.com\/2026\/09\/22\/dana-nessel-says-shell-vote-for-abdul-el-sayed-ending-potential-michigan-democratic-party-rift\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the media<\/a> has from the sit-down. Of more interest on this side was a conversation about 44 minutes into the pow-wow, when she asked about the fact that El-Sayed has more than rattled sabers on behalf of anti-Israel, pro-Islamist causes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the conversation that I need to have with you right now, in that a lot of Jewish Democrats are in this position: Is there space for a Jewish Zionist like myself \u2014 is there space for us in the big tent of the Democratic Party?\u201d she asked. \u201cDo we still belong in the Democratic Party? We need to know that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-even-morning-joe-couldnt-help-call-abdul-el-sayed-disingenuous-attempt-dismiss-radical-connections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El-Sayed\u2019s<\/a> answer began with one of those \u201cSo, look\u2026\u201d qualifiers that indicated that a no-answer filibuster was about to happen. The man didn\u2019t disappoint.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe in a big tent, and I believe that there are Democrats who are going to believe different things about different issues, Israel being one of them,\u201d he began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I am committed to having a tent where we march in lockstep on the 95 percent of things we agree on, and where we continue to have the conversation in that tent about the spaces where we disagree,\u201d he said. \u201cSo, yes. And I will also say that it is critical for people to have the belief that, in our democracy; they have the right to advocate for what they believe in peaceably, and without risk of violence, regardless of what it is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we can disagree, but we have that debate in public,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut it\u2019s important for us to be able to sustain and realize that when you\u2019re electing a public official, they\u2019re never going to agree with you on everything, and on the things that you agree, if those things are the biggest things, then I hope, right, I hope I can earn your support on those.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I know for some people they say, \u2018Listen, this is my number one priority. So yes, asterisk. Yes, kinda. Does that answer your question?<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it does: The answer is \u201cno\u201d, dressed up in a \u201cyes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Consider that Abdul El-Sayed has made it perfectly clear what his number one priority in this race is, and it\u2019s not tax policy or inflation. Here\u2019s a guy who received, and embraced, former-conservative-turned-whatever-the-heck-he-is Tucker Carlson\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/el-sayed-delighted-tucker-carlsons-support-maga-eating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tacit endorsement<\/a>, and with more zeal than he received and embraced Nessel\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>If you need to ask what the one issue that El-Sayed and Carlson have in common is, you haven\u2019t been paying attention to either man of late. Here\u2019s a hint: Tucker and Abdul both seem to carry around a not-so-secret obsession with the state of Israel and the subset of people, shall we say, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tucker-carlson-says-not-obsessed-jews-podcast-episode-mentions-almost-300-times\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that might live in the parts of Israel<\/a> not controlled by the Palestinian Authority.<\/p>\n<p>When El-Sayed\u2019s been palling around with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hasan-piker-doubles-america-hate-says-us-bigger-terror-group-al-qaeda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hasan \u201cAmerica Deserved 9\/11\u201d Piker<\/a> on the campaign trail, and the one issue they both seem to have significant overlap on involves the perfidy of Israel, we can also espy that certain causes are nearer and dearer to his heart than others.<\/p>\n<p>The one thing we do know is that El-Sayed thought that winning the primary would be the hard part in a year where the winds are favorable for the Democratic Party. He thought he could fly the Islamist\/far-left flag until Election Day. However, Michigan happens to be the one seat currently held by a Democrat that\u2019s in real danger of slipping into Republican hands, in part due to El-Sayed\u2019s radical beliefs and thin governmental resum\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Ergo, he\u2019s willing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/el-sayeds-terrible-no-good-weekend-forced-apologize-jewish-community-attempts-erase-ties-hasan-piker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">say and do whatever it takes<\/a> to make him look like a moderate. And even then, he can\u2019t bring himself to give anything but a lengthy \u201cso look\u2026\u201d answer to whether Jewish Zionists belong in the Democratic Party these days.
