Furthermore, if my crib happened to have knobs, I\u2019d have no reason to turn them on.<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kansas City mother sentenced in death of infant she put in oven #KansasCity #fox4kc\" width=\"422\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/w3I-OVKczr0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Thomas, on the other hand, opened the oven door, laid her child on the wire rack, and closed the door, either ignoring the heat that was already present in the oven or intentionally turning it on.<\/p>\n<p>This was not an accident.<\/p>\n<p>Za\u2019riah\u2019s grandfather was the first person to reach out to the authorities. His daughter, Mariah, reportedly called him, saying that \u201csomething was wrong with the baby and he needed to return home immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She had already removed the baby from the oven, but, for some reason or another, had not yet called for an ambulance.<\/p>\n<p>When the police arrived, they found Za\u2019Riah in a car seat. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Her body was covered in burns, and her \u2018blackened\u2019 clothing had melted onto her diaper and skin. A charred baby blanket was also found and taken into evidence.<\/p>\n<p>To be fair, there is certain conjecture about Thomas\u2019 mental state. An anonymous friend of Thomas told the Daily Mail that mental health may have played a role in the tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>Further, a few weeks before the incident, Thomas voiced her loneliness and despair on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid036XHBMaF5fSiUDQTja8FMfiajGzPySaUVCufKYMiagD34NoqFYcW5Qva7tFAdryTNl&#038;id=100090689867173\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a>, saying, \u201cYea motherf***ers claim they my friend but don\u2019t never check up on me or Za\u2019Riah. Perhaps, as her anonymous friend alleged, \u201cshe thought like a child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neither insanity nor competency, however, was raised as justification for adjusting the charge. It\u2019s Lindsay Clancy and DeCarlos Brown all over again. At least in those cases, people pretend that the offenders were insane or psychotic.<\/p>\n<p>Here, they raise no justification for the switch. They simply refuse to prosecute the crime of which Thomas is guilty \u2014 namely, murder.<\/p>\n<p>This woman should spend the rest of her life in jail. The death penalty should be considered.
