Jordan Boyd, the author, is identified as a staff writer for The Federalist, emphasizing her background and credentials.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A 19-year-old University of Houston football star is charged with assault of a pregnant woman, a third-degree felony in Texas, after he allegedly attacked his pregnant girlfriend over her refusal to abort their baby.<\/p>\n<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/uhcougars.com\/sports\/football\/roster\/carmello-brooks\/9843\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">275-pound<\/a> Carmello Brooks learned his girlfriend was pregnant but did not plan to take an abortion pill, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/local\/2026\/09\/21\/new-details-emerge-after-uh-football-players-bond-raised-in-assault-case-involving-pregnant-woman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">allegedly<\/a> \u201csqueezed the woman\u2019s arms, picked her up, slammed her to the ground and sat on her, pinning her down.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>The girlfriend, Nariah Harley, later <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/22\/us-news\/college-football-star-accused-of-slamming-pregnant-girlfriend-on-the-ground-for-refusing-to-take-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> that Brooks \u201cdid not hit me whatsoever\u201d and expressed concern that the charge would interfere with his football career. Police, however, documented\u00a0\u201cvisible injuries\u201d to Harley including at least one bruise on her arm.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first time Brooks reportedly clashed with a pregnant woman. In August, the Katy, Texas native racked up one charge of criminal mischief for allegedly damaging a door handle during a separate skirmish with a <a href=\"https:\/\/abc13.com\/post\/girlfriend-asks-court-drop-assault-charge-uh-football-player\/19856074\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">high school acquaintance<\/a> and her sister. Reports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/local\/2026\/09\/21\/new-details-emerge-after-uh-football-players-bond-raised-in-assault-case-involving-pregnant-woman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">indicate<\/a> Brooks \u201cwent to the woman\u2019s home to speak with her after she became pregnant\u201d but \u201cbecame verbally aggressive and he allegedly tried to leave with the woman\u2019s keys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no secret that abortion is an easy tool for <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/30\/buttigieg-admits-democrats-abortion-extremism-frees-men-up-to-be-sexual-degenerates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cowardly and sexually degenerate<\/a> men, <a href=\"https:\/\/adfmedia.org\/press-release\/adf-report-planned-parenthoods-years-long-pattern-ignoring-child-sexual-abuse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">predators, abusers<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/investigations\/child-sex-trafficking-cover-up-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">child traffickers<\/a> to exploit for their gain. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/17\/what-the-supreme-courts-abortion-pill-ruling-means-for-the-future-of-mifepristone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mail-order abortifacients<\/a> only make it easier for men, even those in states where abortion pills are outlawed, who don\u2019t want to shoulder their role as a father and potentially husband to initiate the end of a pregnancy with a few clicks.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, that termination is executed against a mother\u2019s will or without her knowledge. One study found that 70 percent of abortions <a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/hidden-epidemic-nearly-70-of-abortions-are-coerced-unwanted-or-inconsistent-with-womens-preferences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">are believed to be unwanted, coerced, or inconsistent<\/a> with the mother\u2019s values and desires. Women like Harley who show resistance to such tactics are punished with <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/02\/army-captain-gets-12-years-for-murdering-his-unborn-child-with-mail-order-abortion-pills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abortion pill poisoning<\/a>, assault, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wftv.com\/news\/local\/seminole-county\/florida-man-sentenced-death-murdering-pregnant-girlfriend-over-abortion-refusal\/4GIHNFLZ3NEKFAJDSIAHHE4QP4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">even murder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Ohio doctor Hassan Abbas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/woman-held-down-force-fed-abortion-pills-heart-hell-earth-fight-over-biden-era-policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">struck a plea deal<\/a> that reduced his jail time to six months for force-feeding his pregnant girlfriend Jona Affholder abortion drugs he mail-ordered under his estranged wife\u2019s name. Not only did the mifepristone cause Affholder to lose her baby, but she also hemorrhaged so bad that <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/11\/12\/suspended-ohio-doctor-posed-as-ex-wife-to-get-abortion-drugs-then-allegedly-forced-them-on-girlfriend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">she ended up in the emergency room.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy ex-boyfriend made a choice. He chose deception over honesty, force over consent. And to violate two human beings, me and my baby. No woman should endure this. And no society that values women\u2019s safety should look away,\u201d Affholder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/my-ex-bought-abortion-drugs-online-poisoned-me-and-aborted-our-baby-now-im-speaking-out\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> in an op-ed after the incident. <\/p>\n<p>Even those women who aren\u2019t coerced or forced into abortion like Affholder was are susceptible to the physical and emotional harmed linked to abortion, especially mifepristone. More than <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/04\/28\/study-rate-of-serious-or-life-threatening-complications-after-abortion-pill-is-22-times-higher-than-fda-claims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one in 10 women<\/a> who take the prolific abortion pill suffer serious additional complications such as hemorrhage or infection. The risk of experiencing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/women-report-not-enough-info-given-about-bleeding-pain-mental-anguish-before-taking-abortion-pill\/\" title=\"... Report Not Getting Enough Info Before Taking ...\">life-threatening event linked<\/a> to the abortion drug is at least 22 times higher than what the FDA and Danco claim. <\/p>\n<p>One <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.plos.org\/plosone\/article?id=10.1371\/journal.pone.0349065#sec014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cdc-exposed-inflated-covid-deaths-by-1600-throughout-the-election-violated-multiple-federal-laws-peer-reviewed-study-findsstate-local-governments-must-act\/\" title=\"CDC Exposed: Inflated Covid Deaths By 1600% Throughout The Election, \u201cViolated Multiple Federal Laws... Mifepristone manufacturer Danco <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/06\/abortion-drug-makers-admit-they-care-about-money-not-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admitted<\/a> to the 5th Circuit earlier this year that it is more concerned about profits than the harm its abortion drugs are inflicting on women and babies.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats spend much time and effort <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/01\/14\/senate-democrats-downplay-complication-and-abuse-risks-linked-to-mail-order-mifepristone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">downplaying<\/a> abortion\u2019s links to harm and abuse.
