The broader goal appears to be a long-term strategy to gain influence over the judiciary across all levels, constituting a notable judicial revolution that opponents argue must be countered.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>While Democrats talk about packing the Supreme Court, George Soros is moving from electing crime-friendly district attorneys to pro-crime judges at lower levels who will move up into increasingly prominent positions over their lifetimes.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a significant pivot in the well-established \u201cSoros strategy,\u201d which floods relatively low-cost and bottom-of-the-ballot races with advertising to seat leftist district attorneys. In a new report, the Center for American Institutions documents how the flow of dark money into DA races and state supreme court campaigns has chipped away at trust in judicial institutions. While the funding comes from both sides of the aisle, \u201cnothing in the Republican stable matches the Democratic Party\u2019s network of interlocking nonprofits,\u201d and the Soros-run groups \u201care the biggest and most complete political\/financial complexes,\u201d the report notes.<\/p>\n<p>Recent events demonstrate how effectively the Soros strategy can be deployed in state judge races by adding campaign workers to money. The Democratic Socialists of America have already backed candidates, usually their own members, in district attorney races, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/article\/austin-texas-district-attorney-jose-garza-progressive-ideology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">notably in<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/redfault.com\/jose-garza-wins-overwhelming-21-victory-in-da-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Austin, Texas<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/socialistcall.com\/2019\/06\/04\/tiffany-caban-dsa-queens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Queens County,<\/a> New York. But as influential as DAs are in deciding which cases to bring, why not elect the judges who decide cases?<\/p>\n<p>The idea of holding positions in the hopelessly corrupt American justice system is absurd to some members of the DSA, especially the Marxists. But others see the opportunity: achieving a small measure of justice for the downtrodden, and advancing an attack on <a href=\"https:\/\/redfault.com\/why-the-left-should-run-candidates-for-justice-of-the-peace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">landlords<\/a> and the carceral state. In fact, DSAers and their allies can already be found in low-level judicial positions in a number of municipalities.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Soros-Style Judicial Takeover Campaigns<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>DSA and allied groups start by pulling together slates of candidates. In Los Angeles, a driving force is <a href=\"https:\/\/ladefensa.org\/who-we-are\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">La Defensa<\/a>, a nonprofit that is fiscally sponsored by the Soros-connected <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/la-defensa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tides Advocacy.<\/a> Co-founded by <a href=\"https:\/\/dsa-la.org\/dsa-la-for-eunisses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Eunisses Hernandez<\/a>, who won a city council seat with DSA\u2019s enthusiastic support, La Defensa has backed public defenders and civil rights lawyers for judgeships.<\/p>\n<p>La Defensa ran a 2023 election <a href=\"https:\/\/boltsmag.org\/judge-elections-in-los-angeles-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bootcamp<\/a> for the five public defenders, several of whom called themselves the \u201cDefenders of Justice.\u201d Three won their 2024 elections, including two of the \u201cDefenders.\u201d The purported champions of the downtrodden <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metnews.com\/articles\/2024\/judicialelections_110724.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">substantially outspent<\/a> their more conventional opponents. This improved upon the \u201cDefenders of Justice\u201d yield of only one victor in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>In Pittsburgh, it was the <a href=\"https:\/\/theappeal.org\/politicalreport\/pittsburgh-activists-reshape-courts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cSlate of Eight\u201d<\/a> advancing the Soros strategy in the judicial system. In 2021, 10 of the 34 slots on Pittsburgh\u2019s Court of Common Pleas were open. Opposed, like their LA counterparts, to pre-trial detention and cash bail, some slate members also spoke out against ever trying adolescents as adults and probation for teens. <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Municipal_elections_in_Allegheny_County,_Pennsylvania_(2021)#Judicial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Five<\/a> won seats.<\/p>\n<p>None of them were assigned to the criminal division; instead, they wound up in the civil, family, or \u201corphans\u201d divisions, mitigating the negative fallout of their victories. Another slate contested seats in 2025. As a sympathetic <a href=\"https:\/\/boltsmag.org\/allegheny-county-judge-elections-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">journalist<\/a> put it, the activists are \u201cplaying a long game\u201d with the goal of \u201cbuilding more power on the bench overall.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>DSA Judges Wreak Havoc<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>These DSA-supported judges mirror the Soros prosecutors in handing down ideological decisions that generate havoc and rebukes. In 2025 the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline suspended <a href=\"https:\/\/lvdsa.org\/2025\/10\/21\/las-vegas-dsa-steering-committee-stands-in-solidarity-with-judge-erika-ballou\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DSA Judge Erika Ballou<\/a> for misconduct. When the Nevada Supreme Court reversed one of her decisions, she <a href=\"https:\/\/nevadanewsandviews.com\/nevada-judge-erika-ballou-suspended-without-pay-a-pattern-of-defying-courts-and-law-enforcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ignored the order<\/a> to return the prisoner to custody. She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.8newsnow.com\/news\/local-news\/judge-ballou-resigns-after-suspension-misconduct-claims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resigned<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pghdsa.org\/2017\/11\/01\/statement-on-pittsburgh-dsa-endorsement-of-mik-pappas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DSA-supported<\/a> Mik Pappas, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-gop-vote-counter-herds-cats-with-little-legislative-cushion\/\" title=\"House GOP vote counter manages a challenging task with limited legislative support\">magisterial district judge<\/a> in Pittsburgh from 2018 to 2023, believed that landlords too easily evicted tenants and cash bail was unjust. In his first year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pghcitypaper.com\/news-2\/how-magisterial-judge-mik-pappas-lowered-eviction-rates-by-39-percent-in-his-district-15017434\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">evictions<\/a> dropped by 39 percent. He became a former magistrate when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/district-justice-mik-pappas-abruptly-resigns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resigned without explanation.<\/a> His term was marked by controversy over such matters as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/bethel-park-police-chief-at-odds-with-district-justice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">releasing<\/a> without bail a Chinese national arrested for indecent sexual assault who promptly caught a plane home and failing to sign warrants.<\/p>\n<p>Another <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Endorsements_by_Pittsburgh,_Pa.,_Democratic_Socialists_of_America_(DSA)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DSA-endorsed<\/a> Pittsburgh magistrate, Xander Orenstein, was investigated by the state Judicial Conduct Board for a series of cases that ended badly. While the board found nothing illegal in, for example, releasing a man accused of assault who went on to stab a man to death, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpxi.com\/news\/local\/complaint-against-controversial-local-magistrate-dismissed\/UUWIEB7VJZGRPNIY5BK3PUW2PI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">impeachment<\/a> effort followed.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican state representative who filed the complaint against Orenstein observed that \u201cun-elect[ing]\u201d judges like him out of office is \u201cthe only real solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That happened to Houston\u2019s DSA-supported Franklin Bynum, after his sanction was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/news\/houston-texas\/article\/franklin-bynum-sanction-tribunal-judge-houston-20008429.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">upheld.<\/a> Bynum, who posted a selfie wearing a defund the police T-shirt after he was elected in 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/volokh\/2025\/01\/02\/former-democratic-socialist-houston-judge-franklin-bynum-reprimanded-by-texas-judicial-disciplinary-board-for\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">failed<\/a> \u201cto comply with and maintain professional competence in the law in his handling of cases.\u201d He <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Franklin_Bynum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lost his 2022 bid for reelection<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The packing of the lower courts with socialist judges reflects a strategy to ensure the takeover of our courts at every level.
