The survey, conducted by the Centre for Strategic Politics with 683 respondents, also shows Democratic support for removing Trump through means like impeachment, military coup, or the 25th Amendment. Many Democrats expressed positive reactions to headlines about Trump\u2019s death, and some even endorse violent rhetoric, with instances of attempted assassinations and threats against Trump and his supporters. The poll&#8217;s findings highlight a concerning climate of political hostility and violence, fueled by and reflected in certain political figures and media narratives. Twenty-three percent of respondents said they would feel \u201cvery positive\u201d if they saw a headline that said \u201cPresident Donald Trump was assassinated while speaking at a rally.\u201d Eight percent said they\u2019d feel \u201csomewhat positive\u201d if they saw the news, while 25 percent said they had neither a positive nor negative reaction. Just 43 percent of respondents said they\u2019d feel some degree of negativity if they saw the same news.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Democrats felt positively toward seeing a headline that read \u201cPresident Donald Trump died overnight in his sleep,\u201d with 45 percent of respondents saying they would feel \u201cvery positive\u201d after reading the news and 10 percent feeling \u201csomewhat positive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Democrats were also in favor of seeing Trump removed from office via impeachment, a military coup, or the 25th Amendment. The poll was conducted on Sept. 3 and Sept. 8-10 and surveyed 683 Democrat voters. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps then it\u2019s unsurprising that Trump has been the target of several attempted assassinations with so much of the opposing party desensitized to (and even a fan of) political violence. What should have been a watershed moment more than two years ago when the president was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has only served to mark the first of many serious close calls on the president\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After narrowly avoiding death on July 13, 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/08\/05\/propaganda-press-shrugs-at-yet-another-apparent-assassination-plot-against-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">would-be assassin Ryan Routh<\/a> hid in the bushes of Trump\u2019s Florida golf course weeks later with a rifle. Austin Tucker Martin was killed this past February by agents after he breached the security permitter of Mar-a-Lago while armed with a shotgun and a gasoline can and refused commands to drop his weapons. In April, Cole Tomas Allen was arrested for attempting to assassinate Trump and his entire cabinet during the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner. A few weeks later, Nasire Best was killed outside the White House after he opened fire near a security checkpoint.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The poll also helps explain Democrats\u2019 seeming indifference to elected officials like Jay Jones. Jones, the Virginia attorney general, won his race last year <em>after <\/em>it was revealed that he fantasized about the deaths of both his Republican colleague and his colleague\u2019s children. It\u2019s the same climate that emboldened <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/01\/28\/democrats-are-literally-promising-to-kill-trump-if-they-get-power\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Elliot Forhan<\/a> to run for office in Ohio. Forhan, a former state representative who ultimately lost his bid to be Ohio\u2019s next attorney general, promised to \u201ckill Donald Trump\u201d if elected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI want to tell you what I mean when I say that I am going to kill Donald Trump,\u201d Forhan said in a video. \u201cI mean I\u2019m going to obtain a conviction rendered by a jury of his peers at a standard of proof beyond a reasonable doubt based on evidence presented at a trial conducted in accordance with the requirements of due process, resulting in a sentence, duly executed, of capital punishment. That is what I mean when I say I am going to kill Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/09\/10\/left-wing-violence-is-still-an-existential-threat-to-the-republic\/\">lef<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/09\/10\/left-wing-violence-is-still-an-existential-threat-to-the-republic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tists<\/a> have made clear their stance on political violence even before this Center for Strategic Politics poll. Shortly after Charlie Kirk was assassinated last September, a snap poll was released asking whether it\u2019s OK for someone to be happy when a public figure they oppose is dead. As <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/national-security\/5504569-americans-political-violence-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Hill<\/a> reported, \u201cLiberals were again more likely to say it\u2019s usually or always acceptable to be happy about a public figure\u2019s death, with 16 percent holding this position, including 24 percent of \u2018very liberal\u2019 respondents and 10 percent who said they identify as liberal but not very liberal.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Brianna Lyman is an elections correspondent at The Federalist.
