The national chorus of race-baiters did not.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-three jurors in Jackson County heard from 43 witnesses and reviewed the state autopsy, the family\u2019s hired pathologist, phone forensics, GPS data, and the sheriff\u2019s file. They returned a no true bill.<\/p>\n<p>Nolan Wells\u2019 body, they wrote, was found in a position, condition, time, and place <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/21\/us-news\/nolan-wells-death-consistent-with-drowning-no-evidence-it-was-criminal-or-racially-motivated-grand-jury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cconsistent with drowning.\u201d<\/a> There was no fatal injury and no organic disease, and no credible evidence that anyone who rode the Triton, the Palm Beach, or the Tideline committed a crime tied to his death.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">After 132 subpoenas + testimony from 43 witnesses\u2026 the Nolan Wells grand jury\u2019s conclusion?<\/p>\n<p>> All markers of accidental drowning<br \/> > Zero evidence indicating foul play<br \/> > White friends totally exonerated<\/p>\n<p>There were 5 black jurors https:\/\/t.co\/2tFpSNdY3d<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 End Wokeness (@EndWokeness) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EndWokeness\/status\/2102257927516205559?\">September 22, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/100064706737902\/posts\/statement-from-district-attorney-angel-myers-mcilrath-concerning-the-nolan-wells\/1526775326156011\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath said<\/a> there was \u201cabsolutely no evidence\u201d the disappearance was racially motivated.<\/p>\n<p>The report called attacks on Wells\u2019 friends \u201cmalicious\u201d and \u201cfalse,\u201d noting that he was not the only Black person on Horn Island that day, and said he chose to stay behind after a boat problem. McIlrath added that Nolan loved those friends and they loved him.<\/p>\n<p>A witness told the panel Wells slipped awkwardly off a boat around 3:30 p.m. on July 4, then kept socializing and did not appear injured. Jurors said bruising on the back of his head was not fatal and they could not say with certainty that the fall caused it.<\/p>\n<p>That is the record. Here is what the industry sold instead.<\/p>\n<p>Sunny Hostin told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/1275411\/the-view-cohosts-nolan-wells-case-whoopi-goldberg-message-to-investigators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cThe View\u201d<\/a> the case had \u201cracial undertones\u201d because it happened in Mississippi and Wells was \u201cthe only black kid on an island full of kids that were white.\u201d Whoopi Goldberg piled on.<\/p>\n<p>Al Sharpton stood with the family. Ben Crump ran the familiar civil-rights template. <a href=\"https:\/\/bencrump.com\/press\/ben-crump-rev-al-sharpton-congresswoman-lucy-mcbath-and-parents-of-nolan-wells-to-hold-news-conference-as-congressional-black-caucus-calls-for-doj-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Congressional Black Caucus<\/a> demanded a Justice Department review and floated a possible civil-rights investigation.<\/p>\n<p>An 18-year-old football player\u2019s friends were treated as suspects in a racial killing they did not commit. Some of them later <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/17\/us-news\/nolan-wells-pals-blast-moronic-sonny-hostin-mock-the-view-in-notice-to-sue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called Hostin \u201cmoronic\u201d<\/a> and put her on notice of a possible defamation suit.<\/p>\n<p>Crump\u2019s response to the grand jury was the usual complaint that Mississippi is \u201cattempting to close the chapter\u201d without \u201cthe truth,\u201d and that the result leaves \u201cmore questions than answers.\u201d Grief is not a crime. Turning a drowning into a televised lynching narrative before the evidence is in is something else.<\/p>\n<p>When every tragedy is immediately branded racism, the word stops meaning anything useful. It would be worth naming and fighting when it actually appears instead of crying wolf. Stunts like this make that harder and cause nothing but divide.<\/p>\n<p>Cry wolf long enough and the village stops coming. Then, when a real wolf shows up, the warning sounds like another booking segment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunherald.com\/news\/article317334363.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McIlrath said<\/a> outsiders and influencers tried to exploit the death to divide a community. She did not have to name \u201cThe View,\u201d Sharpton, or the caucus. They heard \u201cMississippi,\u201d saw a photograph, and reached for 1964. A grand jury reached for the file containing the facts.<\/p>\n<p>Should a dead teenager become a fundraising script before the jurors even sit? Absolutely not, it is an insult to Wells\u2019, his family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>Wells drowned on a holiday island. That is already unbearable for a mother. It did not require a racial overlay that a sworn jury panel has now called empty.<\/p>\n<p>They made accusations first, now the evidence has answered.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, however, they will not apologize.
