Yet, for all their professed concerns about religion in the public square, many of these same actors seemingly have no problem with the apparent Islamization of one of Michigan\u2019s most prominent cities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week, the American Freedom Law Center <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/09\/17\/law-firm-sues-dearborn-mich-for-discrimination-in-favor-of-islam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filed a lawsuit<\/a> against the city of Dearborn, Michigan, on behalf of resident and Federalist Senior Legal Correspondent <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/author\/margotcleveland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Margot Cleveland<\/a>. As described in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanfreedomlawcenter.org\/press-release\/breaking-lawsuit-filed-against-city-of-dearborn-and-mayor-for-promoting-islam-while-discriminating-against-christians-and-jews\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AFLC press release<\/a>, the suit alleges that Dearborn officials \u201cspent public funds and used City property to promote and celebrate the Islamic holy month of Ramadan while refusing Cleveland\u2019s repeated requests that the City extend the same recognition to Christian and Jewish holidays \u2014 and that Mayor [Abdullah] Hammoud and other City officials retaliated against Cleveland for speaking out about the disparity.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-955360095\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The legal challenge includes numerous allegations of city officials undertaking efforts and using taxpayer dollars to promote Muslim holidays while simultaneously discriminating against Christians and Jews. As The Federalist\u2019s Joy Pullmann <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/09\/17\/law-firm-sues-dearborn-mich-for-discrimination-in-favor-of-islam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, AFLC\u2019s complaint also \u201csays federal courts have recognized a pattern of Dearborn preferencing Islam over other religions, in violation of U.S. law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since its filing, few corporate media outlets have bothered to cover Cleveland\u2019s lawsuit. But for several of those that did, the coverage predictably reads like a press release for Dearborn officials. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Associated Press ran an <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/dearborn-lawsuit-religious-expression-4fbeffc9a65aa42a56c1b9e3a5f935e9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">article<\/a> on Friday with the headline, \u201cMichigan city defends itself against accusations of favoring Muslim holidays over other faiths.\u201d The piece\u2019s opening paragraphs parrot Dearborn officials\u2019 rhetoric to frame Cleveland\u2019s legal challenge as an attack on the city\u2019s \u201cdiversity.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe city of Dearborn responded Saturday to a lawsuit accusing it of celebrating Muslim holidays and ignoring religious holidays of other faiths by blaming attacks against it on its diversity and \u2018welcoming nature,\u2019\u201d the write-up reads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Corporate media giants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/nation\/michigan-city-defends-itself-against-accusations-of-favoring-muslim-holidays-over-other-faiths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PBS News<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national\/2026\/09\/19\/dearborn-lawsuit-religious-expression\/1eaf888a-b45e-11f1-92c2-5c918f4a6127_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Washington Post<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/detroit\/news\/dearborn-accusations-favoring-muslim-holidays-over-other-faiths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CBS News<\/a> dutifully re-published the AP article.
