These warnings highlight fears that AI could be dangerous, potentially leading to catastrophic outcomes, with some experts like Jacob Coxon suggesting that AI developers are racing toward dangerous superintelligence that could harm humanity.<\/p>\n<p>Teh sudden focus on AI within the Democratic Party appears to be motivated not only by genuine safety concerns but also by political strategy. Leaders are calling for government intervention, regulation, and international cooperation to manage AI&#8217;s risks, positioning themselves as protectors of the public from billionaire-controlled AI development. Some analysts, like strategist Morris Katz, suggest this strong stance on AI is politically motivated, aiming to seize an issue that could benefit Democrats by portraying them as the party of safety and restraint while criticizing billionaires and certain tech executives.<\/p>\n<p>while there are legitimate worries about AI&#8217;s potential dangers, the recent unified political messaging may also serve broader electoral goals, with concerns about AI becoming a new villain to justify increased government oversight and power.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Democrats\u2019 newest existential threat has arrived and, amazingly, all of the party\u2019s leading figures seemingly discovered it at the same time!<\/p>\n<p>Over the past few days, Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, Hakeem Jeffries, and Ro Khanna have begun warning that AI is advancing fast, could be dangerous, and may require international treaties or regulatory oversight or a development moratorium or even a full-on government shut down.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe these are all fair points that all the aforementioned Democrats coincidentally came up with on their own and just happened to reach the same conclusion as their fellow counterparts \u2014 or maybe the talking points went out. <\/p>\n<p>AI is \u201cgambling with our lives\u201d \u2014 so said Anthropic researcher <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/09\/10\/anthropic-jacob-coxon-gambling-with-lives-destroy-humanity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jacob Coxon<\/a> pertaining to OpenAI and Anthropic. Coxen said that both are acting irresponsibly and are \u201cracing straight to self-improving super intelligence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coxon went <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/09\/09\/tech\/ai-anthropic-safety\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">so far<\/a> as to say the people building AI \u201cearnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a scary warning. Maybe it\u2019s true! Maybe it\u2019s partially true and partially false. Either way, Democrats in recent days have suddenly become extremely concerned about AI. <\/p>\n<p>ABC News <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/Politics\/house-democratic-leader-jeffries-calls-lawmakers-act-urgently\/story?id=136401544\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said the Democrat caucus planned to meet and a \u201chigh priority will be action on artificial intelligence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/09\/13\/us\/politics\/obama-democrats-ai.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">headlined<\/a> a piece noting that \u201cObama Urges Democrats to Move A.I. Oversight to the Center of Their Agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some Democrats and Democrat-adjacent leaders have already adopted a similar stance. California Rep. Ro Khanna told Playbook \u201cWe need to ban self-improving AI\u00a0and need a federal regulatory AI agency to prevent catastrophic harm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, former Vice President Kamala Harris <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KamalaHarris\/status\/2099598534831911394\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said on X<\/a>: \u201cThe frontier of artificial intelligence is advancing at an alarming speed. Over the weekend, industry leaders voiced support for an idea that the American people and many AI researchers in their own labs have been calling for: We must responsibly slow the pace of frontier AI development. A slowdown is critical in order to ensure AI serves the public interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harris said we have to \u201cimpose common-sense safety standards\u201d and urged President Donald Trump to pursue \u201ca treaty with countries like China to stop dangerous uses of AI, limit the speed of its development, and adopt global standards for testing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrat puppet master and former President Barack Obama <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BarackObama\/status\/2099642023922036982?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> Washington has to \u201cget proactive in coming up with concrete proposals, laws and regulations that deal with serious safety concerns, anticipate AI\u2019s impact on jobs and our kids, and make sure that AI\u2019s benefits are widely spread.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven what we know about technology, we can\u2019t stuff AI back in a box,\u201d Obama said. \u201cBut we can collectively determine how it\u2019s developed and how it\u2019s used, rather than sitting back and letting AI and its fallout happen to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former Transportation Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/09\/14\/politics\/kamala-harris-artificial-intelligence-slowdown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pete Buttigieg<\/a> said the government needs to take AI \u201chead on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAI is moving quickly. And for Congress to just sit on its hands, for the White House to do nothing real is something that is deeply dangerous to the American people and the world,\u201d Buttigieg said on NBC\u2019s <em>Meet the Press<\/em>. \u201cThere need to be safeguards. There need to be rules. There need to be limits. There needs to be a kill switch on rogue AI. You can set up frameworks that can be adjusted and changed every 30 days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pattern is somewhat easy to spot. Politicians \u2014 which even of the same party are rare to quickly get on the same page about anything \u2014 are all at once arguing AI is moving too fast for the government to stand idly by. While the wording may vary, the message is largely that AI presents a threat and that private entrepreneurs cannot be trusted, so instead we need federal intervention, oversight, and perhaps international treaties.<\/p>\n<p>The sudden focus isn\u2019t that much of a surprise at all, though, as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis pointed out, according to Playbook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats could seize the issue if the GOP cedes the ground,\u201d DeSantis warned, and it appears Democrats are doing exactly that: unifying around the message and posture that their party is the only party that is wiling or caring enough about saving Americans from AI and the billionaires supposedly plotting the destruction of the human race. <\/p>\n<p>Strategist Morris Katz said if Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stick together on pushing a data-center moratorium, Democrats would pick up seats: \u201cWe\u2019re not going to let a billionaire class tell us what\u2019s inevitable and f**k over the American people again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Katz says Democrats should be \u201cthe party that lays down these tracks to stop Sam Altman and a handful of billionaires from destroying your lives to become trillionaires.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s clear that Katz is making the electoral calculation that DeSantis referred to explicit. <\/p>\n<p>In other words, though, Katz let the cat out of the bag. The sudden fixation on AI by Democrats \u2014 and their coincidental same approach \u2014 seems to do more with political power calculations than a general concern about AI. Artificial intelligence is giving Democrats a new villain, a new crisis, a new justification for government control all while they position themselves as our protectors.<\/p>\n<p>To be clear, it doesn\u2019t mean concerns about AI aren\u2019t legit. There\u2019s a lot of reason to worry about AI and question its place in our world.
