Vance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/trump-vance-stay-home-parent-tax-credit-republicans-12416747\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced a plan to offer public assistance for stay-at-home mothers<\/a>, he was immediately blasted as a socialist wanting to turn the U.S. into a welfare state. <\/p>\n<p>For some reason, it didn\u2019t matter that this <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/09\/09\/if-you-think-ending-discrimination-against-stay-at-home-moms-is-welfare-youre-not-conservative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">program already existed for mothers working outside the home<\/a>, nor did it matter that Vance wanted to incentivize more women to stay at home and have children instead of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/06\/22\/meet-the-marriage-minded-women-stuck-dating-during-the-most-fertile-decade-of-their-lives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spending their most fertile years working in an office<\/a>. Altogether, this was less an instance of crypto-socialism and more an effort to repurpose a government program <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/09\/09\/if-you-think-ending-discrimination-against-stay-at-home-moms-is-welfare-youre-not-conservative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">for a conservative end<\/a>. And based on the most recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/empsit.nr0.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">jobs report<\/a>, enabling women to stay at home is more necessary than most people probably realize.<\/p>\n<p>The good news was that there were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/us-jobs-report-august-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">162,000 new jobs across different sectors<\/a> last month. However, behind this number was a vast disparity: Around 158,000 (98 percent) of these new jobs went to women, while 4,000 (2 percent) went to men.  <\/p>\n<p>Some have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/jobs-report-today-august-data-live-updates-2026-9?op=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> this as evidence that women are underpaid and forced to job-stack, while <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/09\/04\/jobs-report-september-women-162000-jobs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">others point to the timing of the report<\/a>, which favored employment in female-dominated jobs, such as teaching. But neither of these claims accounts for the strong preference for hiring women in traditionally male-dominated sectors like manufacturing and construction. <\/p>\n<p>Others suggested these numbers are probably compensating for an earlier time when men were hired more. Nevertheless, according to The <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/women-account-for-98-of-august-job-gains-as-male-employment-falls-us-bureau-of-labor-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Post Millennial<\/a>, \u201cWomen surpassed men in total payroll employment for the third time in history earlier this year.\u201d This is not a correction but a continuation of what has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/women-have-claimed-nearly-all-new-us-jobs-since-trump-took-office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">happening since Trump retook office last year<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>In all likelihood, the real reason for the disparity is that women are applying for jobs in far greater numbers than men and employers are systematically discriminating against men. <\/p>\n<p>This news should alarm everyone. If only 2 percent of new jobs went to women, there would be women\u2019s marches in every city, and feminist politicians would fly into action. But when it\u2019s men, most people just shrug. Even President Trump laughed about this, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/politics\/articles\/trump-posts-cringe-women-over-072801675.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ironically remarking<\/a> that this must be why women love him so much. <\/p>\n<p>But this is no joking matter. Already, relations between men and women are worse than ever, and this will turn the current rift into an unbridgeable chasm. Men are actively being denied remunerative work that would elevate their social status and enable them to attract a spouse, and their loss is directly the result of women taking their jobs. <\/p>\n<p>Despite innumerable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harvardmagazine.com\/2025\/05\/harvard-men-gender-gap-education-employment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">negative reports on men<\/a>, many of them are still making all the right moves to find work but are being rejected <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0749597823000560?via=ihub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">because of their sex<\/a>. This, in turn, discourages other men who see no point in trying, leading to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2024\/11\/18\/us-women-are-outpacing-men-in-college-completion-including-in-every-major-racial-and-ethnic-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">growing gaps in college attendance<\/a>. Meanwhile, employers are losing out on talented workers, and the country is left with a surplus of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/17\/business\/male-gen-zers-are-dropping-out-of-the-us-job-market-in-droves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unemployed and unemployable young men<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Although feminists might cast this as a massive boon for women, the practical consequence of this development is as bad for them as for the men. They are now deprived of suitable men to marry since the majority will be far beneath them in status and income level, which then puts immense pressure on women to work at a career themselves and forego marriage and family formation entirely. And if, by some miracle, they find a good man who can provide for them, and become stay-at-home mothers, they can be expected to be vilified as backward \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/chroniclesmagazine.org\/web\/how-to-respond-to-tradwife-envy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tradwives<\/a>\u201d by other women.<\/p>\n<p>As such, longstanding norms are being gradually reversed: Women are now the breadwinners, leaders, and protectors while men <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/02\/17\/style\/stay-at-home-dad-stigma.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spend more time at home<\/a> doing chores and handling child care. Not surprisingly, this unnatural arrangement has failed to make men or women happier. As survey after survey shows, both men and women are increasingly suffering from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/surgeon-general-social-connection-advisory.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">loneliness<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/anxietychecklist.com\/anxiety-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">anxiety<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/505745\/depression-rates-reach-new-highs.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">depression<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Worse still, this reversal of norms has increasingly made men and women <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/video\/2026\/may\/11\/men-and-women-hate-each-other-the-global-dating-crisis-episode-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dislike one another<\/a>, each blaming the other for their failings and becoming less attractive to the other. After all, why would any woman want to date and marry a passive man who makes less money than she does? And why would any man want to date and marry an entitled woman who doesn\u2019t respect him?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2025\/sep\/20\/inside-saturday-south-korea-gender-war\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">South Korea<\/a> demonstrates what happens when a battle of the sexes morphs into a nationwide, multigenerational war of the sexes: It goes extinct. Birth rates in the country are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsecuritybeat.org\/2024\/10\/too-many-to-too-few-south-koreas-declining-fertility-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">less than half of replacement levels<\/a>, with its total population set to <a href=\"https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/south-koreas-population-is-set-to-shrink-what-would-it-take-to-stop-the-decline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">halve by 2100<\/a>. Instead of coming together to resolve this crisis, the majority of Korean men and women often take opposing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/04\/10\/1243819495\/elections-reveal-a-growing-gender-divide-across-south-korea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">political and cultural stances<\/a>. They are competitors in a zero-sum game that leads to societal decline.<\/p>\n<p>With a <a href=\"https:\/\/govfacts.org\/long-term-challenges-future\/demographic-changes\/declining-birth-rates\/us-birth-rate-hits-historic-low-what-it-means-for-americas-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1.62 total fertility rate<\/a> (more than twice that of South Korea but still below replacement levels), the U.S. is on track to experience the same problems. Already, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doctornerdlove.com\/why-does-todays-dating-scene-have-to-be-so-awful\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abysmal dating scene<\/a> has prevented younger adults from coming together to start their families, and much of this is a direct consequence of most women outstripping most men economically. <\/p>\n<p>Yet many people still treat this as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/deal-with-the-devil-apple-signed-275-billion-contract-with-china-to-avoid-crackdown\/\" title=\"Deal with the Devil: Apple Signed 5 Billion Contract with China to Avoid Crackdown\">win-win situation<\/a>. In theory, women are being empowered, and men are stepping back for the sake of \u201cgender equity.\u201d In reality, it\u2019s a lose-lose situation where women are increasingly alienated from the home, men are alienated from work, and the two are alienated from each other. <\/p>\n<p>The usual objection to returning to the former arrangement, where men went to work and women took care of the home, was that it denied opportunities to women and turned men into tyrants by giving them too much power. Even if this might have been the case in specific households \u2014 though the reality was far more nuanced than this crude characterization \u2014 it is obviously not remedied by denying men opportunities and turning women into tyrants. This only makes a bad situation far worse.<\/p>\n<p>Rather, achieving a healthy balance between the sexes would involve finding a workable middle ground. Women can continue to enjoy economic opportunities, but this should not come at the cost of men doing the same. In policy terms, this means <a href=\"https:\/\/www.compactmag.com\/article\/the-great-feminization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ending misguided affirmative-action policies that unjustly favor female advancement<\/a>, along with punishing instances of reverse sexism that unfairly target men. This would also mean fighting back against the toxic messaging that stigmatizes domestic life and promotes militant misandry.<\/p>\n<p>These moves should be combined with a society-wide push to encourage men to strive professionally and romantically. Too many are <a href=\"https:\/\/barsoom.substack.com\/p\/when-the-experimenter-fails-the-marshmallow?r=1auoq&#038;utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&#038;utm_medium=web\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">giving up on self-improvement<\/a> because they understandably feel the world is stacked against them. The same people who tell these young men to quit complaining and work harder should redirect their efforts to reforming the current broken system so hard work is properly recognized and rewarded. Additionally, we should all help young people to understand that self-improvement is good in itself, a point I make sure to repeat every day in my high school English class.<\/p>\n<p>For the record, none of this equates to DEI for men. It is simply restoring common sense, stability, and sexual complementarity in a culture that is coming apart. Men want and need to shoulder a greater burden of today\u2019s labor while women want and need to shoulder less of that burden.
