Bailey wrote a Friday letter to the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, enclosed in the press release from the Board, that AI is becoming more autonomous and developing threatening capabilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">\u201cFor the financial system, the most immediate concern is the potential impact of frontier AI on cyber risk,\u201d Bailey wrote, in his <a class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fsb.org\/uploads\/P310826.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a>. \u201cFrontier AI may have the ability materially to alter the speed, scale and economics of cyber risk, which could undermine market confidence system-wide, especially due to highly concentrated third-party service providers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">\u201cFirms and authorities should be prepared for a threat environment characterised by a higher volume of vulnerabilities and a faster pace of patching, recognising that these dynamics could themselves create operational and resilience challenges if change, testing and recovery processes are unable to adapt safely,\u201d the British banker added<b><strong class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__textBold\">.<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">He further argued that several jurisdictions lack policies to regulate advanced AI models as they release across the world and called for a global initiative to \u201csupport safe and responsible model release and deployment on a global basis.\u201d<b> <\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">This comes after major AI companies\u2019 AI models hacked into real companies during cybersecurity tests. Among these incidents were OpenAI\u2018s advanced models, including GPT-5.6 Sol, hacking into New York-based startup Hugging Face in July. OpenAI <a class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__link\" href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/hugging-face-model-evaluation-security-incident\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a> the \u201csecurity incident\u201d in a July 21 press release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">Hugging Face referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to a July 27 press release when asked for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\"><b><strong class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__textBold\">\u201c<\/strong><\/b>While the intrusion did reach Hugging Face\u2019s internal infrastructure, the only customer content accessed was five datasets whose names and files suggest a connection to ExploitGym\/CyberGym challenges and solutions,\u201d the press release <a class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__link\" href=\"https:\/\/huggingface.co\/blog\/agent-intrusion-technical-timeline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a>. The company further clarified that only <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >customers\u2019 search query metadata related<\/a> to those datasets was read when hacked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">OpenAI previously agreed to coordinate a restricted release of GPT-5.6 Sol with the Trump administration in June, in which only 20 trusted partners would initially gain access to the new AI model.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">The Financial Stability Board pointed the DCNF to the \u201cFrontier AI\u201d section of Bailey\u2019s Friday letter when asked for comment by the DCNF. In particular, the Board referenced Bailey\u2019s emphasis on the immediate risk AI poses to worldwide cybersecurity as well as the need to prepare for \u201csevere scenarios\u201d in which AI models threaten multiple financial institutions at the same time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">OpenAI did not immediately respond to the DCNF\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">\u201cCyber-attack economics just flipped. [This is the] first time the world\u2019s top financial watchdog named AI its #1 risk,\u201d one X post <a class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/kidtsang\/status\/2094414476774621687?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">read<\/a>, in response to Bailey\u2019s letter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">Anthropic\u2019s models similarly escaped a capture-the-flag test and gained access to three undisclosed companies in July.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">Anthropic did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"LexicalEditorTheme__paragraph\">Meanwhile, Meta\u2019s AI models hacked into another AI startup, Irregular, on Aug 5 during a cybersecurity test.
