AOC had just primaried 10-term Rep. Joe Crowley, kicking off the progressive mini-revolution within the party we know so well today.<\/p>\n<p>Her candidate, Brent Welder, was a white straight male and union lawyer campaigning hard on an economically populist ticket: exactly what a region gutted by years of outsourcing wanted \u2014 and which propelled Trump to sweep the state, 57 to 36 percent, two years beforehand.<\/p>\n<p>But as Barker\u2019s story unfolds, the days for people like Welder in the Democratic Party, especially within its progressive wing, were numbered.<\/p>\n<p>Although Barker did a superb job raising money for Welder, late in the campaign, the establishment Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee parachuted in Sharice Davids as a challenger: a Native American lesbian who came from nowhere, but with millions of dollars in establishment support.<\/p>\n<p>Going against the DCCC\u2019s wishes, Bernie Sanders and the then-upcoming AOC endorsed Welder, resulting in the DCCC (it\u2019s suspected) spreading an online meme showing Sanders and Welder on one side with Davids on the other, reading \u201cTWO WHITE MEN PLAN ATTACK ON WOC [woman of color] SHARICE.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Barker\u2019s candidate narrowly lost to the handpicked but ideas-free Davids \u2014 she later won the district and still holds office today \u2014 she felt \u201cheartbroken\u201d and \u201crobbed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSharice didn\u2019t work hard for anything\u2026 she just showed up one day and tons of money followed her,\u201d Barker said.<\/p>\n<p>For Barker, this was her \u201cfirst brutal beating from the Democratic machine, getting a true taste of what the establishment will do to fight against dissenting voices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, readers hear about the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee inserting a \u201cfake Hispanic\u201d onto the Texas Senate Democratic primary ballot (an apparently non-political white woman who happened to be surnamed \u201cGarcia\u201d) in order to hive off votes from a Hispanic progressive candidate for whom Barker was raising money and who was the lead challenger of Sen. Chuck Schumer\u2019s favored candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Again, Barker\u2019s candidate lost.<\/p>\n<p>The war between Establishment and Progressive Democrats was taking place within D.C. as well.<\/p>\n<p>When AOC\u2019s campaign manager, the multi-millionaire and early Stripe investor Saikat Chakrabarti, publicly attacked Sharice Davids (a \u201cDemocratic Party no-no,\u201d we\u2019re told) for voting for President Trump\u2019s border funding bill (she is in a swing district after all), we\u2019re told AOC was hauled into Nancy Pelosi\u2019s office for a reprimanding.<\/p>\n<p>In exchange for \u201cgood committee assignments,\u201d we\u2019re told, AOC fired Chakrabarti as well as fellow top staffer Corbin Trent \u2014 a moment for Barker in which AOC \u201csold her soul\u201d to the establishment.<\/p>\n<p>But the exchange also entailed Pelosi and fellow top brass being captured by AOC\u2019s ascending progressive wing, wherein \u201cAOC became a loyal lapdog for the establishment, while the establishment embraced the most divisive aspects of progressive rhetoric.\u201d To Barker\u2019s dismay, the \u201cmerger came at the expense of the populist vision expressed in Bernie\u2019s 2016 campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hereafter, economic populism would be dropped and the Democratic Party (both sides) would focus on cultural and social issues only. Cue the late 2010s \u201cGreat Awokening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elite Privilege in the \u2018Party of the Working Class\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps most interesting for conservatives is Barker\u2019s conversion to Trumpism. In one scene, we find Barker, who partly grew up in a trailer park, at a social meeting at the super elite \u201cDems Club\u201d in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>Around her were girls dressed like \u201csorority girls\u2026 talking about their upcoming vacations to Hawaii and Europe.\u201d They \u201clooked disgusted\u201d when Barker revealed she exercises at Planet Fitness, not $500-a-month \u201cBarry\u2019s.\u201d Her key take: \u201cThis must be why [Democratic] politicos, if they are white, think the rest of the world is overwhelmingly privileged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most Democratic operatives today are among genuinely privileged types \u2014 65 percent of Americans earning $500,000 or more voted Democrat in the last general election, Barker tells us. As she relates, these types are typically from \u201cpower cities\u201d like D.C. or New York. Most had gone to private school, then the Ivies; and often their parents led NGOs and other political-adjacent projects (if they weren\u2019t lawyers or professors).<\/p>\n<p>She found that many operatives\u2019 parents were big donors as well \u2014 after she recounts one rich New Jersey female donor laughingly telling her \u201cbut you don\u2019t look like someone from Kansas!\u201d Barker tells us donor disdain for her background was common, as they expected their own children to have her job.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing D.C. operatives up close, Barker asks at this point: \u201cIs this really what the party of the working class is like?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What makes elite, white Democrats so disconnected from flyover country is even more disturbing: racial guilt. Barker began to observe that her colleagues \u201cviewed the world quite differently\u201d compared to her.<\/p>\n<p>As she writes: \u201cThe white campaign workers typically felt a lot of guilt for growing up \u2018privileged\u2019\u2026 they often liked to demonstrate to others an awareness of their privilege\u2026 it was obnoxious, even comical, to me\u2026 I genuinely didn\u2019t have any such guilt.\u201d Amen.<\/p>\n<p>She writes further: These rich, white and genuinely privileged operatives \u201cmake fun of themselves as having no culture\u2026 they might feel they have no culture, but I don\u2019t.\u201d Again, amen.<\/p>\n<p>With the perspective of talking politics with her poor, white relatives from a young age, Barker\u2019s concerns about the party her family formerly supported became very deep: \u201cI was seeing the destruction of the party of the working class in real time\u2026 the Democrats were now run by people who had zero cultural connection to the people the party had long represented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Hollowing Out of the Democratic Party<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A key insight for Republicans is the strain such racial neuroses is taking on the inner workings of the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n<p>Even though plenty of non-white staffers came from backgrounds far more \u201cprivileged\u201d than average whites \u2014 certainly compared to Barker\u2019s \u2014 white operatives were expected to be sufficiently \u201cdeferential\u201d to non-whites, black females especially.<\/p>\n<p>This meant \u201cnever correcting minorities or pushing back on them in any way whatsoever,\u201d even if it was part of the job. \u201cTo survive,\u201d she writes, \u201cI learned I had to be silent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Around 2020, the straight-talking Barker \u201cfailed\u201d this new bit of party protocol \u2014 \u201cacting too directly\u201d to fellow campaign fundraiser, former congressional candidate, and daughter of Bangladeshi immigrants, Nabilah Islam Parkes \u2014 and she was pushed to take a DEI training. She refused.<\/p>\n<p>Around this same time, Barker was removed from an account after she had the temerity to challenge a black candidate\u2019s fundraising ideas on the day (shock, horror) Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted \u2014 she should have known not to do this, a white colleague told her.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly, the halls of the Democratic Party were beginning to resemble those of an insane asylum.<\/p>\n<p>That white guilt so pervades today\u2019s Democratic Party, especially the progressive wing, is because it\u2019s so ingrained in the most important part of the party structure: the donor class.<\/p>\n<p>Barker introduces us to people like Leah Hunt-Hendrix, a top donor she worked with and the founder of a \u201cprogressive donor collective\u201d called \u201cWay to Win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hunt-Hendrix is the billionaire heiress of the Hunt oil family. Partly because her grandfather apparently \u201cpromoted racist policies,\u201d for Barker, \u201cit seemed like Leah felt immense guilt over her wealth and was using her inheritance to try to right her family\u2019s wrongs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was guilt-ridden donors like Hunt-Hendrix, she tells us, people so powerful they can dictate party policy, who drove the extreme anti-white racialization of the party away from economic populism in the years leading up to Barker\u2019s departure.<\/p>\n<p>It was rich, self-loathing whites like Hunt-Hendrix who were responsible for the party\u2019s adoption of the so-called \u201cRace Class Narrative\u201d \u2014 a framework used to racialize any and every policy issue in discussion. According to \u201cRCN\u201d memos landing in operatives\u2019  boxes across D.C. and elsewhere, says Barker, \u201cif someone wanted to talk about housing costs or veterans\u2019 issues, they had to talk about them in racial terms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even Sanders had to fall in line, having to out, for instance: \u201cRaising the minimum wage is not just about economic justice \u2014 it is about racial justice. Nearly half of Black and Latino workers in America\u2026\u201d blah, blah, blah.<\/p>\n<p>Barker hints at what this all means for the future of the party. After recollecting how she had to look up job applicants online to make sure they weren\u2019t white \u2014 or, at least, white males \u2014 she notes that \u201cbetween the years of 2018 and 2024, 85 percent of [the top progressive advocacy groups] had non-white leaders\u2026 forty percent of the executive directors were black, 75 percent were women, and 15 percent of the leaders were white\u2026 only a single organization out of twenty was represented by a white male.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Conclusion: \u201cThe Left\u201d is now run \u201calmost entirely, by brown and black millennial girl bosses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So what happens when an apparently hyper-competitive organization begins pushing against meritocracy-in-hiring so forcefully? As she writes: \u201cWhen hiring decisions are based on immutable characteristics, it often sets the stage for significant challenges. It can lead to situations where leaders overlook critical data and evidence, eager to support initiatives that validate the reason they got the job. Leaders become \u2018identity experts,\u2019 not political operatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In other words, don\u2019t expect the left to engage in smart, culturally moderate politics anytime soon. The rot is simply too deep.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the enlightening journey through the warping of the Democratic Party, Barker also offers plenty of red-meat anecdotes for conservatives. Among them:<\/p>\n<p>The rumors that Kamala Harris is emotionally abusive to staff is common knowledge among Democratic operatives.<\/p>\n<p>Bernie Sanders, who she met, is just as \u201cgruff\u201d and \u201ccurmudgeonly\u201d in person. As one of his staffers told her: \u201cHe doesn\u2019t care about people as individuals\u2026 he only cares about them as concepts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barker once found a ton of crumbled-up American flag stickers in AOC\u2019s Brooklyn office, giving her a \u201cpang of anger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>D.C. consultants advise candidates not to put their actual policies on their campaign website \u2014 just a donation link and biography.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s common for people deep in Democratic politics to be in their late 40s, yet still unmarried and without children.<\/p>\n<p>Black candidates failing to meet their fundraising goals often blame it on \u201cracism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the 2024 DNC convention, she observed: a nonbinary Muslim prayer room; a woman with designer glasses wearing a t-shirt showing a giant uterus; and a giant inflatable IUD named \u201cFreeda Womb.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Compared to a Trump rally in Las Vegas she attended, there were more whites and far fewer working people in the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic operatives are as delusional as conservatives think they are.<\/p>\n<p>Barker: \u201cIt was common for us to call Republicans racist almost daily, convincing each other that the \u2018alt-right\u2019 was \u2018absolutely\u2019 terrifying, a force that wanted to literally murder us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AOC\u2019s then-chief of staff, Corbin Trent, cried after visiting a border patrol facility with AOC, saying afterward at a party, \u201cI don\u2019t even believe in countries; we shouldn\u2019t have any borders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most operatives believed that the crime uptick which took place in cities where Soros-funded district attorneys were elected was a hoax created by Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Tell-all books from Democrats are rare. Any insider strong and honest enough to break from the left\u2019s increasing cultishness not only risks ostracism from the circles they\u2019re used to, but don\u2019t get to enjoy the remunerative MSM contributor posts, and so forth, that Republicans who go rogue are able to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>By blowing the whistle on a party that went from pushing policies beneficial to everyone to one that now openly disdains whole sections of the country, Evan Barker is a true American heroine, perhaps a modern-day Joan of Arc, and most assuredly, an example for us all.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><i><b>The views expressed in this opinion article are those of their author and are not necessarily either d or endorsed by the owners of this website.
