That moment of tragedy is unforgettable. All decent Americans were justly incensed and called for President Trump to go after the radical violent left in response.<\/p>\n<p>This anniversary is a time to assess where we stand. What has been done to get justice and thwart rising left-wing violence?<\/p>\n<p>Defeatism and attention-seeking influencer soap operas have shifted blame and attention away from the left. They threaten the unity and political support we desperately need on the right. A look at the last year of administration efforts should help reorient our attention.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly a year after Robinson shot Kirk, a Utah judge has finally ruled that Robinson can proceed to trial for aggravated murder, in which the state can seek the death penalty. Contrary to the baseless and malicious theorizing spread by Candace Owens and associated influencers, there is <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/09\/01\/judge-rules-tyler-robinson-will-face-trial-for-assassination-of-charlie-kirk\/\">plenty of evidence<\/a> assisting the state in its prosecution of Robinson.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson\u2019s defense attorneys are merely seeking to mitigate the sentence, which is the best they can hope for him. While the delay is infuriating when we want swift and public justice, we are in the near future likely to see Robinson convicted for the murder. The prosecutors should push for the death penalty.<\/p>\n<h2>Dismantling the Violent Left<\/h2>\n<p>Right after Charlie\u2019s murder, President Trump moved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/09\/designating-antifa-as-a-domestic-terrorist-organization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to designate Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization<\/a>. President Trump also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/09\/countering-domestic-terrorism-and-organized-political-violence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">instructed the Joint Terrorism Task Force<\/a> to \u201cto investigate, prosecute, and disrupt entities and individuals engaged in acts of political violence and intimidation,\u201d such as the leftists rioting and threatening or acting out violence.<\/p>\n<p>The White House\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2026-USCT-Strategy-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S. Counterterrorism Strategy<\/a> released in May 2026, identified violent left-wing extremists as one of the United States\u2019 three biggest terror threats. (the other two are Islamic terrorism, and cartels and transnational gangs). <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/29\/trumps-counterterrorism-focus-shifts-from-christian-parents-to-antifa-thugs-drug-cartels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">As I wrote for The Federalist<\/a>, this reorientation to target left-wing violence is an enormous shift from recent Democrat administrations. President Biden and Obama weaponized law enforcement, military, and intelligence against conservatives and Christians, treating them as domestic terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>In July, the Trump administration hosted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/releases\/office-of-the-spokesperson\/2026\/07\/state-department-addresses-international-resurgence-of-far-left-political-terrorism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">summit<\/a> of allied nations to share information and strategies on how to curtail left-wing violence and subversion. The State Department <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/29\/report-reveals-how-cuba-equipped-the-american-radical-left-for-60-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">released a report on Cuba\u2019s decades-long support<\/a> of leftist militants in the United States and has sanctioned many Cuban officials and state entities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecRubio\/status\/2062650500416508298\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sanctioning Cuban entities<\/a> as state sponsors of terrorism may provide more opportunities to investigate, prosecute, and shut down leftist organizations in America that are intimately connected with those Cuban entities. For example, investigations are underway into the finances and activities of <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FoxNews\/status\/2071575653762154713\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Neville Singham<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/foxnewspolitics\/status\/2060009457111986536\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hasan Piker<\/a>. Strangling Cuba\u2019s influence network may very well help crush subversive domestic leftist networks.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of August, the State Department <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecRubio\/status\/2092620708744491201\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sanctioned several transnational far-left entities<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/releases\/office-of-the-spokesperson\/2026\/08\/designation-of-autistici-inventati-as-a-specially-designated-global-terrorist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">including the Italian group Austici\/Invetati,<\/a> a major platform hosting Antifa sites and communications. This effective move has led to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/antifa-linked-sites-dark-state-department-terror-designation-tech-collective\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Antifa websites going dark<\/a>, and anyone donating to them or using their services can face legal repercussions.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ is <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/amp\/US\/doj-official-directs-prosecutors-prepare-probes-george-soros\/story?id=125941089\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reportedly seeking to investigate George Soros\u2019s Open Society Foundation<\/a> to determine if its massive leftist funding has sponsored terrorist activity. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/27\/business\/trump-admin-set-to-target-george-soros-nonprofit-in-tax-crackdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">is targeting<\/a> the Open Society Foundation, Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR), and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). This will hopefully lead to the loss of their tax-exempt status and fines.<\/p>\n<p>The SPLC was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/federal-grand-jury-charges-southern-poverty-law-center-wire-fraud-false-statements-and\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">indicted in April<\/a> for wire fraud, false statements, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Hopefully its indictment sets a pattern for more to come.<\/p>\n<h2>Arresting Footsoldiers of the Left<\/h2>\n<p>We have also witnessed an uptick in law enforcement against violent left-wing activists. In February, the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AGPamBondi\/status\/2027449934337696099\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DOJ announced criminal charges<\/a> against more than 30 left-wing protesters \u2014 including former CNN host <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AGPamBondi\/status\/2017238803639845115\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Don Lemon<\/a> \u2014 who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/anti-ice-agitators-disrupt-minnesota-church-shout-worshippers-sunday-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">harassed Cities Church in Minneapolis<\/a> in January. Many leftist\u00a0rioters have been arrested and charged, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/brooklyn-man-charged-threatening-assault-and-murder-ice-officer-and-his-family\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nicolas Scelfo charged<\/a> in June for threatening to kill federal immigration agents and their families.<\/p>\n<p>In June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/leader-antifa-cell-members-north-texas-sentenced-100-years-prison-terrorist-attack-ice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eight Antifa terrorists were sentenced<\/a> to effectively life prison sentences for their July 2025 attack on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility\u00a0and agents in\u00a0Prairieland, Texas. Also in June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/15-members-direct-action-minnesota-minneapolis-based-direct-action-group-antifa-ties\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">15\u00a0members of\u00a0the Antifa-connected Direct Action Minnesota<\/a> were charged for attempts to impede, injure, and assault\u00a0federal officers. <\/p>\n<p>Federal actions have barely kept pace with unceasing threats of left-wing violence, such as the dramatic assassination attempt by <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheJusticeDept\/status\/2048900521336221700\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cole Allen<\/a> at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner in April. The FBI intercepted and DOJ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/federal-grand-jury-indicts-8-men-conspiracies-related-plot-attack-ufc-freedom-250-event\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">indicted eight individuals<\/a> for plotting a terror attack aimed at President Trump\u2019s UFC event at the White House in June. The alleged ringleader of this plot, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BillMelugin_\/status\/2067586792144957466\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Abraham H. Alvarez<\/a>, was a Mexican illegal alien.<\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 3, the FBI <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/USAttyEssayli\/status\/2095509037551100045\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced the arrest and indictment of Benjamin Azariah<\/a> for publicly threatening to kill President Trump. In August, the Los Angeles sheriff\u2019s department <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/USAttyEssayli\/status\/2084864423370576332\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arrested Jeanine John Taele<\/a> with multiple firearms outside the Trump Golf Course ahead of a presidential visit.<\/p>\n<h2>Is President Trump Doing Enough?<\/h2>\n<p>Trump is taking the first whole-of-government approach to target, investigate, and take down the violent, radical left. Before Trump, many of these militant leftist actors operated without scrutiny and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MikeBenzCyber\/status\/2046720923852480683\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in multiple cases worked closely with government entities<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AuronMacintyre\/status\/2060733034391871947\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">say Trump hasn\u2019t done enough to target the left<\/a> in the wake of Kirk\u2019s assassination. Many <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MattWalshBlog\/status\/1998845809656316268\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">want more serious law enforcement scrutiny<\/a> into the leftist and transgender groups to which Robinson belonged. Many of the same voices on the right have <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/seanmdav\/status\/2082125309374276032\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">criticized<\/a> Trump\u2019s war with Iran, which poses a risk for the administration, given the volatility and uncertain outcome.<\/p>\n<p>Arguably, our greatest threats currently are domestic, not foreign. Nevertheless, while the Iran War may be <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/restoreorderusa\/status\/2078602409857675763\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unpopular among many Trump supporters<\/a>, that does not mean domestic efforts to take down leftist domestic terrorists have faded.<\/p>\n<p>Some criticisms of the law enforcement effort <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theconundrumcluster.com\/p\/fight-back-why-republicans-must-defeat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">have been offered in bad faith<\/a> or fail to accurately assess the scale of opposition. Given the corruption of the judiciary and the need to purge law enforcement agencies of deep state actors, Trump faces many more obstacles than did Obama or Biden when they went after conservatives. As with his immigration enforcement efforts, President Trump must essentially build a new governmental machine to target the militant left, even if he can draw on plenty of existing statutory authority.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, we should continue to pursue more aggressive actions to punish the militant left and keep them from dominating America, but we should admit how much the Trump administration is doing and that it is having a real effect. Most of the actions noted in this article would have been unthinkable a few years ago or even in the first Trump administration.<\/p>\n<h2>Step On the Gas Harder<\/h2>\n<p>Yes, more needs to happen. Ideally, the \u201cnonprofits\u201d that fund much of this leftist activity would be sanctioned, fined, shut down, and their assets seized. Dozens of <a href=\"https:\/\/extremism.gwu.edu\/sites\/g\/files\/zaxdzs5746\/files\/2025-09\/The%20Silent%20Rise%20of%20the%20Left%20Wing%20Militia.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">small militant leftist groups<\/a> like the John Brown Gun Clubs, Redneck Revolt, and Socialist Rifle Association should be designated terrorist organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors should also push for the most severe sentences possible for the guilty, which includes <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/18\/heres-a-not-so-modest-proposal-bring-back-public-executions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">execution for high-profile leftist terrorists<\/a> like Robinson, Allen, and Luigi Mangione. Realistically, an enduring obstacle will be the obstruction by judiciary, which often imposes weak penalties, such as an <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/oregon-judge-sentences-teen-who-plotted-to-bomb-behead-ice-agents-in-domestic-terror-plot-to-3-years-of-probation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oregon state judge sentencing a Portland domestic terrorist to only three years of probation<\/a> after he pled guilty to plotting to kill ICE agents. The <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/07\/16\/if-congress-wont-stop-rogue-courts-the-doj-should-prosecute-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">judiciary remains one of the most intransigent obstacles<\/a> in our quest for justice, but we cannot despair, nor should we blame the Trump administration for judges it didn\u2019t appoint.<\/p>\n<p>We owe it to Kirk to get retribution for his horrible murder and to ensure he didn\u2019t die in vain. Charlie gave his life to combat leftist tyranny and to support President Trump\u2019s vision for proudly renewing America. He died as an outspoken witness for his Christian faith, too.<\/p>\n<p>Just as now is not a time to talk about forgiveness or moving on, neither can we give in to apathy or despair.
