The article reports that FCC Chairman Brendan carr warned TV networks about potential consequences if they broadcast “fake polls” that could mislead voters before elections. This warning follows incidents where organizations released mistakenly or deliberately fabricated polling data, such as Median Strategies, which produced and later admitted to fake poll results to demonstrate how unreliable or false data can influence public perception. Carr emphasized that broadcasters receiving government subsidies should operate in the public interest and not push partisan narratives. The article also discusses specific cases like NBC’s Kristen Welker’s comments about Trump’s endorsement record, which drew FCC scrutiny, and explores how fake polls-sometimes intentionally misleading-are impacting electoral processes.the piece highlights concerns over misinformation, media accountability, and potential governmental actions to regulate such practices during election periods.

In an appearance on Fox News on Sunday, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr warned networks that there would be consequences for what he called “fake polls” which might mislead voters before Election Day.

While it was unclear what precisely he was referring to, Carr’s warning comes less than a month after an organization which admitted to showing two candidates with major leads in critical races admitted it had faked the polls “as a short-term social experiment” to show how easily manipulated information could get past gatekeepers.

“The one thing that President Trump gets, fundamentally, is that broadcast TV is completely different than other forms of distribution, including cable,” Carr said during his appearance on “The Sunday Briefing.”

“And so many broadcasters right now, they [want to] break the deal that they cut with the American people,” he continued.

“They get billions of dollars in taxpayer, effectively, subsidized distribution.
