congresswoman was required to disclose spousal income.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Charles Kim reported on a personal-finance form receiving between $10,000 and $100,000 in \u201cgross income\u201d from the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" His municipal position only paid a maximum monthly <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/cob.oc.gov\/sites\/cob\/files\/2026-01\/District%205.pdf\">stipend of $300<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the payments from Dam Jae appear to have been improperly declared as income.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Dam Jae, they were reimbursements related to Charles Kim\u2019s volunteer work with the foundation, which travels around the world to thank the troops who were sent to defend South Korea and recognize those servicemembers with medals of appreciation. Young Kim, 63, would have been in her mid-50s in 2017.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now a vulnerable House Republican fighting to keep her seat in California\u2019s newly redrawn 40th Congressional District, she is fending off a challenge this election cycle from fellow longtime Rep. With his competitive home district turning <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cookpolitical.com\/house\/race\/482021\">a deeper blue<\/a>, Calvert decided to run in Kim\u2019s district, which remains <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cookpolitical.com\/house\/race\/482016\">safely red<\/a> and even gained more Republican ground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kim and Calvert <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4593967\/california-vulnerable-republican-redistricting-victims-primaries\/\">advanced from the nonpartisan primary<\/a> as the top two candidates and will face off in the general election. Calvert claimed about 35% of the vote, and Kim garnered around 21%. The collision between the two Republican incumbents in November will result in only one winning reelection, while the other will be forced out of office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/premium\/4539232\/ken-calvert-young-kim-fight-california-40th-district\/\"><strong>GOP HOUSE INCUMBENTS FIGHT FOR SAME INLAND SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SEAT<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both their finances are becoming a line of attack in the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/premium\/4539232\/ken-calvert-young-kim-fight-california-40th-district\/\">bitter GOP showdown<\/a>, as Calvert is carrying some financial-disclosure baggage of his own.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf amended financial disclosures are going to be part of a story about the race between Young Kim and Ken Calvert,\u201d said Pack, \u201cit would be journalistic malpractice to ignore Calvert\u2019s record in this space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing an ethics complaint against Kim in early December that flagged a series of trips missing from her disclosure forms, Pack said, \u201cYoung simply acknowledged an oversight and corrected it,\u201d referring to the congresswoman swiftly amending three years of financial filings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCalvert, meanwhile,\u201d he continued, \u201camended six consecutive years of disclosures only after the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> uncovered an undisclosed commercial real estate investment near a project that received a $2 million taxpayer-funded earmark at Calvert\u2019s direction.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\">Rep. The property, according to the report, is about one mile from a bridge that received $2 million in earmarked funds through Calvert\u2019s office. Following the <em>Times<\/em>\u2019s article, Calvert <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/politics\/story\/2024-08-07\/calvert-campaign-finance-investigation-request-end-citizens-united\">amended<\/a> his disclosure reports, covering 2016 through 2021, to disclose the property.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThose revelations also prompted an ethics complaint over Calvert\u2019s undisclosed real estate holdings and potential conflicts involving taxpayer-funded earmarks,\u201d Pack told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cSo, if Calvert wants to scrutinize amended filings, let\u2019s scrutinize them.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-up-to-50-000-in-undisclosed-travel\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Up to $50,000 in undisclosed travel<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kim was hit late last year with <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.endcitizensunited.org\/young-kim-occ-complaint\">an ethics complaint<\/a> from End Citizens United, a left-leaning campaign finance reform group, accusing her of violating federal disclosure law by failing to report on her financial forms five privately sponsored trips she took between 2022 and 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two of them were paid trips abroad, including <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/youngkim.house.gov\/2022\/03\/11\/lawmakers-reflect-trips-israel\/\">one to Israel<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/youngkim.house.gov\/2024\/04\/08\/rep-young-kim-meets-with-elected-officials-business-leaders-on-bipartisan-trip-to-south-korea\/\">another to South Korea<\/a>. Kim\u2019s husband had accompanied her on both overseas trips, which cost a combined $44,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/disclosures-clerk.house.gov\/gtimages\/MT\/2022\/500024083.pdf\">Travel<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/disclosures-clerk.house.gov\/gtimages\/MT\/2024\/500028184.pdf\">itineraries<\/a> show that during their trip to Israel, paid for by the AIPAC-affiliated American Israel Education Foundation, the Kims stayed at Jerusalem\u2019s leading luxury hotel, a five-star locale. Consistent with federal disclosure guidance, Kim reclassified the specific income sources, which she initially listed out as individual clients, as income from YK Connections, the business through which the income was earned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe court is not convinced petitioners have even made a prima facie showing Kim\u2019s \u2018small business owner\u2019 ballot designation is either false or misleading,\u201d Superior Court Judge Allen Sumner ruled back in 2018. \u201cAssuming they did, Kim\u2019s declaration sufficiently rebuts any such showing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kim\u2019s campaign suspected the \u201cfrivolous\u201d case was brought by her Democratic opponent, Gil Cisneros. \u201cThe judge saw right through this false lawsuit and outright rejected this attempt to smear Young Kim\u2019s well-documented history as a local small-business owner,\u201d the Kim campaign said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4473418\/california-house-republicans-swap-districts-strategize\/?itm_source=parsely-api\"><strong>CALIFORNIA\u2019S VULNERABLE HOUSE REPUBLICANS SWAP DISTRICTS AND STRATEGIZE AHEAD OF PRIMARY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A spokesman for the Cisneros campaign <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/politics\/judge-rejects-lawsuit-challenging-gop-candidates-small-business-owner-status\/\">told<\/a> the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> that two small business owners filed the complaint, not Cisneros, but ignored inquiries about whether he helped mount the legal challenge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYoung reported $0 in income from the business, she did not report having a position with the company, she did not report having a business of any value, and she has not registered to pay business taxes with the city of Fullerton,\u201d the Cisneros spokesman said. \u201cThe question is if Young Kim does, in fact, own a small business, then why has she not paid taxes?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The judge who denied the petition noted in his ruling that YK Connections was structured as <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/businesses\/small-businesses-self-employed\/sole-proprietorships\">a sole proprietorship<\/a>, meaning she reported profits on her personal income tax returns.
