The inquiry revealed she maintained an unprofessional relationship with a security detail member, regularly consumed alcohol on duty, and fostered a toxic and intimidating work environment. Specific incidents included ordering a security member to throw cash at a stripper and combining personal with official travel, along with failing to report gifts, violating federal regulations. Chavez-DeRemer also allegedly pressured staff to partake in alcohol consumption and ignored harassment issues, with some staff describing the workplace as humiliating. The report notes she rarely attended the office and previously had a history of questionable spending using campaign funds and public money on luxury expenses. She resigned in April amid allegations of misconduct, misuse of funds, and an affair with a subordinate. She also combined personal and official travel, directed government employees to perform personal tasks using official time and resources, and failed to report gifts through required channels, in violation of federal regulations, according to the watchdog. The inquiry determined that the former secretary failed to check the behavior of some senior staff at the department and stop them from harassing employees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The watchdog said 38 witnesses consistently described the work environment as \u201ctoxic, intimidating and humiliating,\u201d with the report painting the former secretary\u2019s then-chief of staff, Jihun Han, and deputy chief of staff, Rebecca Wright, in a particularly bad light. Han and Wright were placed on investigative leave before they resigned under pressure from Trump administration officials in March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The former secretary maintained a supply of alcoholic beverages in her office for personal use, according to the report.
